Northern Michigan Lodge Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom Luxury Log Lodge on AuSable River

This luxury log lodge is 2.8 miles east of Grayling on a pristine, heavily wooded 5-acre site right on the AuSable River, world-renowned for trout fishing. In fact, the lodge is situated at the start of the Holy Waters, a prime location for catching large trout. It is ideally located approximately an hour's drive from Traverse City, Boyne Mountain, Shanty Creek, and Schuss Mountain. It is a half hour from Gaylord, Michigan's golf capital.

Just some of the many nearby activities include trout fishing, golfing, canoeing, and swimming, in the summer, as well as shopping and hiking. In the winter, you can enjoy downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling.

With 2250 square feet, it very comfortably accommodates up to 8 people.* The main floor consists of the great room, the dining area, kitchen, master bedroom and bath, and a lovely sun room. The entire interior of the lodge is furnished with beautiful knotty pine, providing that natural feel and connection with the beauty of the outdoors. The great room is situated right in the middle of the lodge. It leads out onto the large deck and has large windows along the wall to let in the light. There is a large couch and comfy chairs to relax in, as well as a television and stereo for your pleasure. The sun room, is an ideal place to bring the outdoors in. There are large picturesque windows to let in lots of natural light, comfortable chairs to sit and enjoy the view and partake in some bird-watching, and a table for card and board games.

There are 4 bedrooms: The master bedroom on the first/main floor, two on the second floor, each with two twin beds, a loft (also on the second floor) which also has two twin beds, and a fourth bedroom in the basement. There are 3 full bathrooms: one on the first/main floor, one on the second floor, equipped with a combination shower/bathtub, and one in the basement. The lodge also contains a fully equipped kitchen and laundry room. Amenities include a fireplace, satellite television, and a gas grill located out on the deck. The deck is very large and provides a very comfortable area on which to grill, relax, and take in the sights. It provides a filtered view of the beautiful AuSable, looking out through a heavily wooded area full of pines, spruces, and cedars. Down below the deck is a fire pit and open backyard, good for tossing a football around or setting up a game of soccer, and setting up a campfire that everyone can gather 'round.

*While the lodge comfortably houses 8 people, we are open to allowing more guests to stay at one time. Please, contact the owner with your requests and questions and they'll be sure to work with you to accommodate you on your inquiry!

There is a lot of good and a lot of bad in this review. I’ll start with the good so those of you who would rather see the silver lining in everything can stop after reading the first part:

The house was very open and airy, well lived in but relatively clean. My husband and I arrived 1st and there was no clear cut master bedroom choice, so we had a little bit of trouble making a decision on which one to pick. We decided on the upstairs right bedroom which had a semi private bathroom and a tub. The open loft in the middle was suitable only for children because it is open and has no privacy. The bedroom on the upstairs left was a good size and nice as well. All three bedrooms upstairs have 2 twin beds which have to be pushed together if you are a couple, it felt a little odd because of the sheets and covers but we made it work. We passed on the main floor bedroom because the bathroom is the only one on that level and would be used by everyone throughout the day. I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my things out in there and would’ve had to put them away after showering. The bedroom on the main floor is a nice size and has access to the back deck (this bedroom is the only bedroom with a full size bed). There is a little bit of a weird door situation because you can close the bathroom and bedroom off to make a suite but the doors are all together and clack against each other but we go used to that. The basement was partially finished and had a smaller bedroom and bathroom which worked well for a couple of our guests but it had twins as well and we were told they kept sliding apart and at one point she actually fell through the crack to the floor.

The main area/kitchen is very open, nice and well stocked. There is a little sunroom off to the side which is nice in the morning for reading and coffee. The deck is of adequate size and shape and there are plenty of chairs for seating. The proximity and size of the fire-pit is very nice, easy to access and private. When I first saw the back yard I was disappointed because you can't see the river from the back yard but after seeing the quantity of folks floating past the house the privacy from the river was well needed. We sat in the river one day and had to stop what we were doing to greet about 50 people floating by. There is a long wooden deck through the woods out to the river. After the deck ends there are tree roots which are a tripping hazard and it’s pretty marshy. They have placed a couple of 2x6 wooden

Grayling vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time in this beautiful log home! There was plenty of room for 6 adults to hang out and watch the birds and the deer from the beautiful floor to ceiling windows. The fireplace made it warm and cozy for our snowy winter stay. I would highly recommend this home to anyone wanting to stay in Grayling.

A weekend to remember...

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, well kept knotty pine lodge on the banks of the Ausable river. Accommodations were beyond our expectations. Cozy place for both adults and kids, with all the amenities of home. Short driving distance from downtown Grayling which made it very convenient for us to run back and forth for supplies. Perfect location for fishing with short drives to any favorite hot spot on the Holy Waters, as well as a short run to the Manistee. We will definitely be back! Highly recommended for anyone who wants to get away and relax on the banks of the Ausable in comfort.
