About Scott Chipman

We are the Tuft Family. 1 Son, 4 Daughters. We have lived in and loved San Diego for many years. San Diego became our home after years of travelling the globe with our Navy Nurse Mother and Naval Aviator father when he was assigned as Operations Officer of NAS Miramar. San Diego is still home to 3 of the Tuft sisters and we love any chance to get the family together.

Scott Chipman purchased this house in 1968

Why Scott Chipman chose San Diego

This home was the site of countless family parties and celebrations (even a few weddings) and is a cherished spot for us all. Kids and grandkids ran and played in the backyard and playhouse. There were lots of Sunday BBQ's and great times with the cousins at Grandma and Grandpa's house. We want to keep this home vibrant and in use - still making memories for other friends and families.

What makes this house unique

This is a quiet neighborhood with stunning views - The perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy San Diego. We hope you love it like we do.

Family celebration

  • 5 of 5

This home was perfect for our celebration of our nieces graduation. 4 couples spent the weekend here & we all agreed it was a perfect location. We really liked the mid-century modern style & all the space to spread out, both inside and out. Scott & Sarah were such nice people & it was nice we were able to meet them. I would definitely recommend this property.

The home is comfortable and spacious with a beautiful view of the city.

  • 4 of 5

We found the home fresh and clean, stocked with everything we needed. The master bedroom upstairs has a spectacular view of the city. The grandkids loved playing in the playhouse in the backyard. We saw the signs saying neighborhoods are for neighbors not vacation rentals, but we had no problems.

Great vacation home

  • 5 of 5

My family (six adults and a toddler) spent a week in this house and thoroughly enjoyed it. The house is spacious, which is important for a group our size, and well laid out. Skylights and large windows in the back give the house a bright, airy feel. The dining area table seats eight, which allowed us to join together for food and conversation.

There are patios in the front and back. In the back, the house sits on high ground that falls off sharply to the west, affording a panoramic view of neighboring areas, including part of Mission Bay.

We found the location convenient. The house is in a quiet residential neighborhood, but only a few miles to Pacific Beach and Mission Bay. There is an entrance to I-5 (the main north-south freeway) close by. You can use I-5 to reach downtown San Diego, Balboa Park, La Jolla and points north.

In short, we found the house itself relaxing and fun, and it was easy to get from it to a variety of interesting and beautiful places. That plus the chance to bring our family all together made for a great week.

San Diego rental

  • 3 of 5

The house is lovely with lots of room for families with kids. The location is ideal. However, there is a really strong musty smell that we could not eliminate--even with lots of doors and windows open. Now our clothes all smell musty. During the rain, the house leaked quite badly in two places and the lights in the family room kept going on and off. Also, the kitchen needs new frying pans and lots more large cooking and serving spoons. The house just needs lots more TLC.

Owner's Response: We were sorry to see water leaking in on the back side of the house and refunded rent for the days of the leak. San Diego, and much of California, had record rains and winds last month. We discovered that an upstairs door threshold drains were clogged with dirt. The wetness in the ceiling also caused a musty smell. Both have been resolved.

Beautiful view, Lovely home

  • 4 of 5

The kitchen was stocked with almost anything one needed. We did purchase paper products and garbage bags. I suspect like us, other guests left extra paper items. With the exception of neighbor's signs that were not welcoming renters, the neighborhood was quiet, well-maintained, and no one bothered us. The home is well-maintained, but beware of the commode in the master bath. It overflowed and it due to an emergency it took a couple of days before someone returned our call for help. Thankfully, there were some cleaning products on hand, only one incident and then it worked as expected and apologies were offered to us. The laundry room has a full w/d which was a wonderful convenience. The home offers a patio in front (we did not use due to the signs), and an absolutely gorgeous rear view. Even lovelier than the photos. The elevator is beautiful and helpful for an injured family member. The home was not far from UCSD, stores, coffee shops and grocery store. It felt welcoming, like home. Sitting under the gazebo for breakfast and was also a perfect respite after graduation ceremony. Did I mention the amazing view , day and night. The owner also offered so many helpful tips and was readily available for questions. The patio was a nice area to sit outside with a glass of wine and many places to just sit and read. There were 4 of us and the home is so spacious, that there were spaces for all to simultaneously study, work, play, relax. This home contributed to a week of lovely memories for us at graduation. Highly recommended!
