About Steve Emma
We love fine dining, and in Providence, there are a great many fine restaurants to visit. Martha and Steve have a life-long interest in the arts, and love to go to museums and concerts, including dance concerts and classical and jazz music. Steve is a retired botanist/horticulturist and currently am an enthusiast for "paleo botany" or plant fossils, and minerals. Martha is a retired a clinical social worker of over 25 years years experience, and is a practitioner of yoga. We love to walk or hike and enjoy the many parks, hiking trails, and bike paths that Rhode Island offers.
Why Steve Emma chose Elmhurst
Although the house was built in 1960, this property has been in the family for over 100 years, and the house was passed down to us from Steve's mother and father. At one time this area was pastures and orchards; now of course, it is a city neighborhood. Steve still maintains a small vegetable garden and a few fruit trees on the land that his great-grandparents gardened through the Great Depression and World War II. We have a perspective on the history of the many changes that have occurred in the neighborhood. The dwarf apple tree in the front yard is a favorite tree and we pick apples for pies all fall.

Great place. Exactly as described. Will stay there again. Owners are fantastic. They do an excellent job orienting you to the residence and everything is well marked. There are plenty of dishes, etc. if you would like to cook. They provide a great coffee selection and plenty of "forgotten" items in the bathroom. Really a nice touch along with the snack basket. If I could make any suggestion, it would be for a little larger tv. Love the place, my brother called it the Brady house.
Clean, roomy property built by current owner’s grandparents. Need more light in the living room.
Good! We are satisfied!
Steve & Martha were fantastic
Couldn't have been more organized or better hosts. The area is fantastic, Providence College campus is beautiful & you can't get enough great food. A must see & stay! Only 1 small issue was that my husband was too tall to fit in the full sized bed...stayed in the fetal position all night & he was good...lol. Otherwise, couldn't be more happy with our stay! Thank you so very much Steve & Martha. We had a great trip & hope to come back again.
Our property description stated that it was a full size bed. Sorry to hear that the full size mattress was not what you expected.....it is true that individuals of a large build might find the need to have a queen or king size mattress for a truly comfortable sleep. We enjoyed hosting your stay, and are very glad that overall you were happy with Emma's Place!
Steve and Martha were exceptional hosts. Their place was neat as a pin with every comfort of home provided. The location was perfect for us. Steve and Martha were so receptive to our crazy travel changes. We will very much look forward to staying again with such wonderful people.
Very Comfortable Stay
Steve and Martha's place is immaculate and has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. We were warmly welcomed and made to feel very much at home. A basket of snacks was on the counter and bottled water in the fridge. The retro decor brought back memories of my childhood. The bed was very comfortable and extra blankets and towels were provided if you needed them. Although we didn't do any cooking, everything you need to prepare a meal is available for your use including a grill in the backyard.
Wonderful hosts - very convenient property
Steve and Martha were wonderful hosts, very respectful of our time and privacy and very knowledgeable about the area. They even took time to join us for dinner on the patio! The property was clean and well maintained, safe and centrally located for all the activities we had planned
