Ed is a gastroenterologist in Waco, TX, and I am a nurse & homemaker. Having grown up in GA, I've been coming to St. Simons Island since the 1960's,watching it slowly develop while keeping its quaint charm. Our 3 children grew up vacationing here, & our oldest son was even married on the island in 2009. We hope to build many more family memories in the future on St. Simons Island!
Bonnie Carpenter purchased this house in 2013
This home will be our personal vacation home. Purchased in Jan. 2013, we are the 1st owners of this charming cottage in an extremely popular new sub-division 'Village Oaks'. We fell in love with this neighborhood's hugh oaks, & proximity to everything we love. We also wanted to have enough bedrooms for all of our family to be comfortable. Having spent the last few months furnishing it, we are now ready to offer Doc's Inn to you for your family vacation.
Doc's Inn has the feel of an old seaside cottage while having the most up-to-date amenities. It's close proximity to the village & pier make it extremely convenient to relax & enjoy this island.
Three generations of our family voted last year to return to SSI and stay in Doc's Inn. We loved everything about the house. Beds were so comfortable that we all got a good night's rest each and every night. The house was clean, very nicely furnished, and well stocked. We love the location. The neighborhood is close to the pier and village, but tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the village. The girls enjoyed riding bikes around the neighborhood. The owners provide some beach towels and beach chairs for their guests - an added bonus. Doc's Inn is a lovely house and very comfortable. I recommend this property whole heartedly.
Doc's Inn provided a wonderful girlfriends' getaway -- great house, great neighborhood, great location! Everything about the house was as described. The house was immaculate, the furnishings were very comfortable, linens/towels were plentiful and providing beach chairs is a very nice perk. From front porch sitting to finding the spirit trees in the neighborhood to walking to the village and pier, there wasn't anything more we could have wanted. The owner and rental company were wonderful to work with. We would highly recommend this property.
We highly recommend this lovely property. The owner and rental company were professional and ensured that we had everything we needed during our stay. Doc's Inn is a beautiful home located within the Village Oaks community, easy walking distance to dining and shopping. The decor makes you feel like it's your home away from home. During our stay, we experienced an unforeseen circumstance, but Bonnie and the rental company handled it immediately and professionally. Five stars! We will definitely be coming back.
I am typing this on our last night of staying at Doc's Inn. Everything about our stay was perfect. There was plenty of room for our kids and grandchildren. The furnishings were beautiful, yet comfortable. Everything was exceptionally clean and well maintained. The kitchen was well stocked with supplies. Towels were plentiful. Beds were all cozy. We enjoyed strolls and bike rides to the Village.
We enjoyed crabbing off of the pier. We used mullet for bait and hauled in lots of hermit and blue crabs! We loved our shark fishing trip with Billy Bee's Family Charters - a highlight for our little ones.
We have already booked our vacation for June 2016 right back here! Thanks for making such a wonderful home for a vacation retreat.
Three generations of our family gathered for a week in this lovely home. We enjoyed many walks with children and babies in strollers to the delightful village just a short walk through beautiful tree-lined streets. The ladies and girls loved our afternoon tea at the hotel on Jekyll Island. There were trips to the pools and playground as well as the lighthouse and Christ church. Our family agreed this was one of our best vacations ever and the home was even more beautiful than we expected.
I recently enjoyed a wonderful vacation in St. Simons at your beautiful home! The new home had everything we needed for a week long stay. Our large family (7 adults, 2 children, 2 infants) fit comfortably in the 5 bedrooms and the lovely cottage decor made us feel at home. The amenities were so nice we ended up cooking in a number of nights. I especially enjoyed being within walking distance to the Village and pier - this made it easy for an evening stroll and ice cream treat!
Thank you for sharing your home and we hope to make a return trip!
The St. Simons lighthouse & museum, built in 1872, is a short bike ride away. Try climbing it's 129 steps to the top for a sweeping view of Jekyll Island & the other surrounding islands. The 18th century Fort Frederica National Monument is another popular tourist site. Be sure to drive to the north end of the island to visit historic Christ Church, established in 1884, & still an active Episcopal church today.
