Adorable, secluded Cabin
My family and I planned to spend the weekend hiking around Mt. St. Helens. We arrived to the cabin around 5 pm, after a day filled with hiking and driving. Pulling off the main road, up the gravel wooded road that opens up to the cabin was amazing! The land, the cabin...it was gorgeous!
The cabin itself is large, VERY well stocked. Both rooms have their own bathroom, which is a total plus. There are tons of blankets, towels, and games. The kitchen is big and contains everything you may need. I ended up cooking several meals there, and there was everything right there you may need to cook (even seasoning! I had forgotten salt, but no worries the cabin had some waiting for me).
We truly spent most of our time outside around the fire pit. The views are insanely beautiful and tranquil. It is so quiet, and nighttime gave way to great star gazing. On out last night we had been planning to go out to eat, but opted to go back to the cabin simply because we had just a great time sitting around the fire and enjoying the beauty the cabin has to offer. Both nights we saw deer around the evening time, it was great.
The location for us to explore Mt. St. Helens' was great. It was about 50 minutes to Ape Cave and hikes on the south side of the mountain. To the north side, its about a 2 hour drive.
Yacolt itself, is a small but cute town. We had brought a bunch of food, but did go to Yacolt Trading Post for everything we forgot. The Trading Post is small, but had everything from fresh meat and veggies to wine and souvenirs. In the parking lot of the Trading Post, there is also a drive through coffee stand.
We LOVED this cabin, and already have plans to return. I would definitely recommend this cabin.
Cedar Creek Retreat
Nice cottage with quite and wild life.
Perfect for two people or two couples!
Look forward to staying here again. Very clean, not overly crowded with personal items.
A lovely, peaceful retreat!
We were in desperate need of several days away from life's hectic pace, and this lovely home didn't disappoint. Though the two-bedroom house is only 1000 square feet, it never felt crowded. We all had space to sprawl out or be together. Due to a lovely open floor plan that allows one to easily move from room to room while maintaining a sense of connection to the other rooms, and due to the vaulted ceiling in the living/dining room, we never felt cramped. The gas fireplace was delightful on the cold November nights and cozy on frosty mornings. The weather was lovely the entire time, but the home is so open that even if we were stuck inside, it wouldn't have mattered. The master bedroom also has a vaulted ceiling, and all the rooms that aren't vaulted have high ceilings, so you never feel closed in. The large windows everywhere allow you to enjoy the beautiful and serene view no matter where you are, and it's so nice to have all the windows open and yet not have to look into another home or property anywhere. Catch the sunrise from the master bedroom and the sunset from the dining room and kitchen windows. The property is private and well-maintained. The nature trail is delightful (imagine a 10-15 minute walk while never leaving the property!) and the trail down to the creek is likewise enjoyable. The creek itself is no small thing (again, imagine a 10 minute hike, while never leaving the property!) From a well-stocked kitchen, a delightful soaker bathtub, comfy beds and linens that envelope you, and a laundry room well stocked with detergent and cleaning supplies, Cedar Creek Retreat provided a bit of everything. There were books, movies and games available and blankets to wrap yourself up in. The home is dry, well-ventilated, clean, "green", and well-maintained. We intend to come back and decided it would be delightful to experience it in each season!
Peaceful, Beautiful, Clean, Away from it all
Dharma's home is beautiful. The outside had great views, even in stormy rainy weather. The inside was clean and inviting. Everything in the kitchen we needed for the long weekend, was there. Beds are comfortable and linens soft. Couches were super comfy! Now I want some.
Not a lot of hot water. Wanted so badly to take a hot bubble bath in the soaking tub (since I don't have a tub at home). Unfortunately, we ran out of hot water before the tub was half full.
Pilot light went out on the gas fireplace at some point while we were out hiking. We went on a stormy weekend and the power went out, so we did get really cold not having the the gas fireplace as backup. There was plenty of heat through the forced air while the power was on.
Even with the cons, we had a wonderful weekend and would definitely return.
Thank you for your positive feedback. I am sorry to hear about the issues that came up. I would have been happy to talk you through relighting the fireplace pilot. Also, I think your hot water issue was due to the power being off for a while. I appreciate that you were able to make the most of your trip despite the challenges.
Lovely and restful
Quiet, well appointed, well maintained, close enough to the south side of Mt st Helens
For those who want to explore, there are lots of fun options nearby. A highlight is Moulton Falls park located 4 miles to the south. It offers lush forest, emerald green waters, and spectacular waterfalls. There are a number of other very nice parks nearby along the East Lewis river including: Lucia Falls Park, Sunset Falls Park, and Lewisville Park. Excellent advanced whitewater kayaking is available nearby along the East Lewis River and Canyon Creek. Other nearby activities include: Wine tasting at Moulton Falls Winery, Pomeroy living history farm, and the historic Clelatchie Prairie Railroad that operates a couple of weekend a month.
A scenic drive to the north brings you to the south side of Mount St. Helens. Trail of two forests, Ape Cave, and Lava Canyon are rewarding adventures in this area.
