This beautifully restored oceanfront home has all the charm of yesteryear with the added conveniences and sustainability of today. Offered as a vacation rental for the first time in 2013, the view and location are spectacular. In 2014, The Guardian newspaper listed it as one of the Top Beach Houses in the World. Completely renovated, this updated home has hardwood floors, granite countertops, koa cabinets, stainless steel appliances, air conditioning, iHome docking stations, Bose outdoor speakers with Bluetooth receiver (to pair your own devices and play music) with connections for Android and Apple products, iTouch pre-loaded with various Hawaiian music, wireless internet, full size washer/dryer, brand new California king bedroom set, luxurious bedding, hdtv plasma in great room and bedroom, gas bbq, Tiki Hut for afternoon drinks, teak lounges, etc etc. All lights are on dimmers so you can create your own environment and mood. There's even an indoor switch to light up the water at night to create your own private manta ray and eel show!
Ideally located overlooking Kahaluu Beach, you are within feet of the best snorkeling and surfing on the island. (If you do surf or stand up paddleboard, you can paddle straight out and be in the break in less than 5 minutes.) Dolphin sightings are quite common. During winter months, whales can be seen daily as they swim by.
Uniquely situated on a 9000 sq ft oceanfront lot, this home is a one-of-a-kind. You will experience complete privacy with expansive views up and down the coast. (We also own the property next door where you are free to pick papayas, bananas, etc. or just sit and watch the sunset.) While there is so much to do on the Big Island, you will have a difficult time pulling yourself away from your home and the incredible views and sounds of the ocean. You will find this special place to be relaxing, rejuvenating and inspiring.
Upon arrival you will be provided with tropical flower arrangements, kona coffee, fresh fruit, homemade banana bread, etc. For bookings exceeding 14 days, a 'freshen up' cleaning will be arranged midway through your stay at no additional charge.
Married over 20 years, we share the passion for travel and exploration. We own a business in California and Australia, and try to spend as much time as possible at this special home in Hawaii.
Ronald P. Herrema purchased this house in 2013
We have been blessed to have traveled to many parts of the world and have not found a property or location as special as this one. Extensive renovation has been done to make this home both luxurious and sustainable. Expansive panoramic views and the gentle sounds of the ocean create a very unique setting unmatched by anything we have seen.
You will not find a home as close to the water as this one! The sights and sounds of the ocean are mesmerizing. From the large lanai and deck you can watch surfers, paddle boarders and boogie boarders or jump in the water and experience some of the best snorkeling on the globe. Lighting up the water at night makes for a spectacular view.
We just left Kona Moana Hale yesterday. We had a great time in this beautiful and tastefully decorated home. We will surely miss the amazing sunsets, the sound of the waves and the cool ocean breeze. The home had everything we needed and more!
The fruits and goodies basket was a welcome treat. Everything you'll need for the beach (except sun screen!) has been provided - towels, chairs, snorkel sets and icebox.
It was also in the perfect location for everything we wanted to do - exploring the white, black and green sand beaches, snorkeling with the manta rays, visiting the volcanoes and eating out (but we enjoyed breakfast and dinner at the deck the most!). Even if the home was along a busy road, you can't hear any traffic noise because of the sounds of the crashing waves!
We also had a very pleasant experience dealing with Ron, the owner, when we were booking their home. He was very responsive over email, providing suggestions about the island and even calling us when we checked-in, to make sure we had everything we needed.
The Big Island is now our favorite of the Hawaiian islands and Kona Moana Hale was one of the reasons for that!
We spent nine days in Kona Moana Hale and enjoyed every second of our time there. The home was as advertised and the pictures show a delightful, clean, well-maintained, house with a killer location. To be any closer to the ocean you need flippers. We spent our mornings drinking coffee and watching the surfers and the afternoons reading and watching the spinner dolphins. In the evenings we went to dinner at many of the local eateries and came back to music and wine on the deck watching the stars. As an added bonus we were there during the Kona Ironman competition and they ran down the street in front of the house. It was very difficult to go home to reality. Ron was a delight to work with and very helpful with all of the details. He even called the first morning to see if we had any questions. The vacation was everything we wanted it to be and one that we will not soon forget.
My heart is so full of gratitude that the Herrema's made the effort (and clearly invested what it took financially) to turn this vacation paradise home into a true sanctuary. And to share a home so special as a rental, I find selfless.
I was in Kona in August, 2016 to release my husband's ashes into the sea. We were married 33 years, he was only 58 years old when he died from MS and it was an extremely emotionally painful time for me. From the SECOND I walked through the door of that house, so would begin the journey of healing my soul.
The Herrema's have not left a single stone unturned as far as attention to detail and comfort. I can't say enough. I chose just being present in that house over several Island activities on most days. It was all I wanted and all I needed, just being there. For me, I could strongly feel God's presence in that home. A sense of comfort and ease washed over me and was with me the entire time.
I can't thank you enough for opening your home and offering it as a rental.
I have stayed in vrbo around the world, and this by far was amazing. Location, location, location everything with in a three mile radius or shorter. Extremely well appointed, and A+++ for cleanliness. As a traveler, I could only wish to own property as rememberal as this in Kona, love, love, lovey this space and the cross breeze of the ocean air. Thank you for a remarkable holiday. Xxoo Mahalo
I have been going to Hawaii for over 40 years. The views from the deck capture Hawaii as it was before it became developed. The unending crashing surf provides for a special audio background to help you tune out the world. The location makes any trip extremely easy to get to.The owner has managed to equip the home with anything you need to have a vacation to remember for the rest of your life
My wife and I spent 9 days in at this beautiful house. It was our first time on the big island of Hawaii and there was lots to explore: beaches, volcanoes, snorkeling, and more. But our favorite thing was hanging out on the beautiful deck (called a Lanai) and watching the surfers, the sunset, and the breaking waves. The view is paradise and I missed it the very first day we returned home!
Ron and Pam are amazing hosts, gifted in hospitality. Every detail was attended to. We were impressed with all the Kitchen Aid appliances and made fresh smoothies with local fruit every day. We loved that they provided snorkels and fins, a yoga mat to use on the outdoor patio overlooking the waves, beach towels and a beach chair, and a 5-minute walk from your front door is seriously one of the best beaches on the island for snorkeling and surfing. I even rented a surfboard for $20 and paddled out for some waves.
We also really loved that this house was close to anywhere we wanted to go, but away from the resort scene. All you hear at night is the sound of the crashing waves, which I have to admit was louder than I expected, but I instantly missed it when I came home. This bungalow is an ideal place to unwind from the stresses of life, rest, and be refreshed!!!
This property was a perfect fit for Barb and I. Being from Tucson, the ocean sounds were relaxing day and night. We cooked breakfast every morning, and either cooked on the grill or had pupus each night, being gone exploring the isle all day. People, look at this place if you are looking for a special time. Coffee on the lanai in the morning, and a glass of wine or a local beer in the evening, Good Times! Marc and Barb, Tucson
Ideally located overlooking Kahaluu Beach - the best surfing and snorkeling beach on the Big Island. Central to restaurants, shopping, golf, farmers markets, volcano, etc.
