50th Wedding Celebration with family

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent two fabulous weeks at this Hideaway Retreat property. Property description says it all! At one point we had a total of twelve enjoying the residence. It has plenty of space for everyone with spacious bedrooms and more than adequate bathrooms. Temps were in mid to high 80's with only a brief shower on the mainland one PM. Property has two large outside decks; one on second level. From these areas we enjoyed refreshments while watching the sunsets. Plenty of tables and chairs provided. We could enjoy beautiful scenery and wildlife while preparing meals in the kitchen or on the deck. Grandkids played in screened in porch after enjoying the water. Also had our Easter meal together on the porch while enjoying the great weather. Beach is only steps away with only a few people accessing it as they search for shells or sharks teeth. Friendly neighbors also stop to share their tips. During our visit we had the requisite visits by Henry the heron, along with a bald eagle, snowy egrets, pelicans, cormorants, etc. We had a glorious time with our family since we do not have the opportunity to vacation with everyone at the same time. Also we found many sharks teeth right on the property. One Englewood resident shared with us the fact that he had found a 3 1/2 tooth (Megladon) right down the beach a year or so ago. During our stay we also traveled to Busch Gardens. Venice, Boca Grande, and Nokomis Groves for their famous ice cream. All in all, everyone enjoyed our stay on Manasota Key, a classic example of "old" Florida. Limited beach access, canopied covered roadway, no commercial properties, except for two small "grandfathered" resorts a mile away. Thanks to the Mackes family for sharing their residence along with their welcoming gift and to Col. "Mac" Mac Farland for his attention to the property.

Great house, beach, and sharks teeth hunting.

  • 4 of 5

Great location. Nice house. Right on the beach. Sharks teeth at your toes. Beautiful Gulf water. Good local places to eat. We had 10 adults and we were all very comfortable. Plenty of room and seating for all. Our favorite local places were Lock N Key and Waverly. Sharky's on the Pier in Venice is worth the drive. Perfect weekend away.

Feeling mislead!!!

  • 1 of 5

Could not enter house upon arrival, number did not work on lockbox. No phone service to contact handyman. Front door was left unlocked, which we discovered an hour after arrival.

Microwave unusable... was beeping constantly with the message “short, call for service”, had to unplug it and therefore had no fan over stove, and were not able to cook.

Cable did not work on numerous televisions.

All remotes did not work properly, were in need of new batteries.

Paverbricks at main door wall were missing. Very dangerous, caused two falls.

Doors did not lock properly. Felt unsafe leaving empty house with our belongings and at night while sleeping.

Upstairs Bedroom window ..whole window casing broken loose from wall.

No screens on upstairs door walls, broken screens were sitting on deck.

Broken screens on numerous doors, which enabled to many “bugs” to be in house.

Numerous lightbulbs needed replacing.

Upstairs Bathroom fan not working.

Toilet not working in main level bedroom.

Dishwasher did not work properly.

Refrigerator leaking. Ice maker not working.

The towels were comparable to rags and needed to be replaced.

The pillow needed to be replaced as well.

The overall cleanliness of this house was UNACCEPTABLE! The inside of the kitchen cupboards were dirty.. the kitchen utensil drawers were dirty. The fans above the kitchen table where we were supposed to eat and in kitchen area were filthy. Garbage was under the beds in the twin bed bedroom, opening drapes in upstairs back bedroom wasn’t an option when I saw how filthy it was behind them, when taking a book off the kitchen soffit MOLD was discovered (which I am allergic to).

The listing title for this house claimed “new, luxurious five bedroom house”. It was not new, built in the seventies, and far, far from luxurious.

We were very disappointed, and need to discuss this matter with management.

Please call me within the next 48 hours.

Owner's Response: Dave, we are deeply sorry for the issues you experienced during your stay at this house. We appreciate you working with the owner and Evolve to work towards a solution, and hope the measures taken were able to alleviate some of the frustrations. The owner takes feedback very seriously and prioritizes the cleanliness of their home and comfort of their guests. As such, since your stay, they have hired new cleaners to ensure the cleanliness is up to standard. Additionally, the issues with the window and cobblestone are some residual damage from the recent hurricane and are currently being addressed. It is industry standard to list the property as "new" when it is new to the vacation rental market, but we apologize if this caught you off guard. Please know that we and the owner are doing all we can to prevent these issues from occurring for future guests. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Best, The Evolve Team

Spectacular view from the inside out. Needs a lot of TLC

  • 3 of 5

The house view is spectacular, a little far from anything. Our big disappointment was the status of the property.

There are a lot of commodities but disorganized. A lot of tv and cable boxes, but some controls are not operative or without batteries. Some DVD players don’t work. WiFi is very bad, just available in one part of the house and no cell coverage at all.

On the other hand, some towels have holes and honestly needs change. No towel paper for replenish. No sponge to wash the dishes. And the house seems not having a deep cleaning in long time. Pillows are yellow of too much use, second floor window almost flew away since is rotten and doesn’t close.

We sent an email to the owner but just received a visit 2 days after to fix the window. They are very unresponsive. No phone, no emails and no txt. They gave us the wrong lock box number. We could fix it but it was a miracle because the phone service is BAD.

The best of the house is the view and the space for 2 families . 11 people

We recently stayed at this home and had an amazing time!! The beach was so private! It was like being on a cul-de-sac because there are rocks that jut out into the gulf just two houses down so few people are even walking by during the day. There were sharks teeth everywhere and we found some great shells too. All of the bedrooms were beautiful with their own attached bath and the living areas were perfect for relaxing. There's a private upstairs deck we used for sunning and a large downstairs deck as well. The grill was great! We used it twice. This is a dog friendly beach so we saw lots of canine friends on our evening walks to watch the sunsets. It's only 15 minutes to Walmart and Publix so we didn't have to pack all our food for the whole week. We caught 30 mullet in the intercoastal at Blind Pass and had a great fish fry! There are some rocks in the water in front of the house next door and the kids enjoyed snorkeling around them. The gulf was calm and perfect for paddle boarding on some days but also kicked up some waves for fun on other days. We hope to return!!
