Proximity to the towns of Comox and Courtenay. Rural atmosphere, comfortable accommodation and salt air.
Beautiful views, the sea-highway is fascinating and the shoreline is great for beach walks.
Bring a pair of good shoes!
Hi, Norma-- We've had a wonderful, restorative time here; sleeping soundly, eating gloriously and otherwise filling our souls with the beauty and quiet of this extraordinary place. Thank you for sharing your corner of paradise with us! We so appreciate your offer of another night and gave it serious consideration. At this point, we will keep our plans to depart tomorrow, Weds, at around 10 in order to work our way home at a relaxed pace. Again, we couldn't be more satisfied with our visit here. We were unable to book my family's lakeside cabin in Montana for this past weekend, so it's particularly special to enjoy another family's retreat and benefit from the wisdom that chose a perfect spot years before. Highlights: *Memorable meals at Atlas, Martine's, Osaka Sushi, and points northward *Comox Farmer's Market *Biking...some of Seal Bay park, also short jaunts to Berry Best and Abuelo's *Investigating the tide pools along the shoreline *Relaxing in our comfortable, peaceful well-appointed lodgings Again, much thanks and best regards: Annika & Jonathan
We had a great stay on the ocean in Courtenay. The unit was really clean and quiet, great location with fantastic views. Had a wonderful time and looking forward to a return visit.
What an enjoyable stay. The suite is cozy, clean, and what a view out the kitchen window. Cruise ships, sailboats and barges as well as deer, eagles, and privacy....a perfect way for two to recharge.
Make sure you take a walk down the street to buy homemade salsa and corn tortillas; what an unexpected surprise. We loved how close the suite was to wineries and local breweries. We would highly recommend 40 knots winery and all 3 local craft breweries (Cumberland, Gladstone and Forbidden).
This is a must stay and we will do our best to make it back!
Amazing hidden gem! Bed is super comfy and room is modern and inviting. Even has a private yard. The beach is mostly rock and is about 30 feet from the property. There were lots of little crabs on the beach which were interesting to observe. The area is also quiet. The owners were very knowledgeable and helpful with area attractions. Courtenay is close to the south and has lots of amenities including Costco. Campbell river is to the north and has an amazing seafood place at the fishing boat marina called Crabby Bobs. Would definitely stay again at this property!
We stayed for a week with our focus being to mountain bike the surrounding areas including Cumberland, Campbell River, Hornby Island etc. This studio location was really well equipped in the kitchen, a nice size room and bathroom for two people and a private driveway that was close to the door which helped unload the car, bikes etc.
The view from the room out onto the water was great, beach access right in front and a warm sun in the morning.
We enjoyed the access to the nearby parks, 2 wineries, fruit stands, fresh eggs for sale at a roadside stand and a nearby Mexican store with salsa, tortilla and hot sauce. A great bakery and small taco restaurant in Cumberland shouldn't be missed.
We were looking for a self-contained suite for our week-long stay in the Courtenay-Comox area, which would be our home base for skiing at Mt. Washington Ski Resort. Lions Barking was perfect. Thirty minutes and we were on the mountain's cross-country ski trails, which were awe-inspiring, especially for a couple of prairie flat-landers! The suite was impeccable, modern, cozy and very well-equipped for cooking. Owner Norma sent us a list of nearby groceries ahead of time. She also suggested picking up a few groceries en route to the rental, particularly if you are arriving after dark. Good advice, as her beautiful home is in a very quiet, very dark, and semi-rural setting. Of course it was this tranquility and the spectacular ocean view that contributed to a truly wonderful stay. And Norma is a very friendly and knowledgeable host - very approachable, yet respectful of her guests' privacy. We highly recommend this property.
We are Prairie people who love to break up our winter with a month on Vancouver Island. We were not disappointed with our new rental this year. We loved to get up early in the morning, doddle over our coffee, and view the changing panorama out our kitchen window--the arrival of dawn, the chickadees and towhees darting along the hedge, the daily parade of ducks and loons cruising the shallow waters for food, as well as the occasional sighting of a seal or sea lion head coming up to have a look around. We watched small and large fishing boats, as well as barges, plying the waters of the Strait. If you like the sound of waves and the constant changing of the sea patterns, Lions Barking is the place to come The studio is clean, comfortable and cozy, and the hosts, Norma and Phillippe, are accommodating and gracious. We went for several walks right outside our door--through the neighbourhood, the nearby Park and the beach. Longer hikes are only a short drive away, such as Seal Bay Regional Park. We loved it; we will be back.
Prepare to see abundant nature, Stellar Sea Lions, Harbour Seals, River Otter, Nesting Eagles, Trumpeter Swans, Black Tail Deer. Enjoy beachcombing, local artisan, music and garden tours. Ride the chairlift at Mt. Washington, dine at award winning Locals' Restaurant or a wood fired pizza at the Church Street Bakery. Sample local produce, including artisan cheeses, meats, smoked fish and other delicacies at the Comox Valley Farmer's Market.
