Come enjoy all that Alexandria and the Chain of Lakes have to offer. Lake Carlos is the largest lake in a chain of five lakes and has deep/clean water that is perfect for swimming, fishing, or water skiing. The house is located on a pleasantly landscaped hill with fantastic views of Lake Carlos and is a perfect place for enjoying Minnesota summer days. Our property has a sandy beach that complements the sandy bottom of Lake Carlos, both of which make playing in the lake THE thing to do during your stay.
The dock and boat lift can be utilized during your stay and are perfect for storing your boat, making access to the water simple and easy (note that there are several public boat launches nearby). Fishing off the dock is a must with abundant pan fish, northern, bass and walleye. Or those with a boat can explore any of the other four lakes that are all attached to Lake Carlos via water channels. The house also has a large lakeside deck for those who would prefer to sit and enjoy watching the water fun.
The home has a very open feeling, with vaulted ceilings and large windows that allow you to take in amazing sunsets over beautiful Lake Carlos. The main floor provides a large master bedroom that is warm and cozy. There are gas fire places in both the master bedroom and living room, perfect for taking the chill off. There is a full bath located in the master bathroom. The main floor has a fully equipped kitchen for your use. The second large deck is located just outside the dining room giving you the option to dine inside or out. There is an amazing loft that comfortably sleeps guests or family, while still allowing them to have a beautiful lake view. For convenience, there is a ¾ bathroom located up in the loft. The basement offers alternative activities from all the outdoor fun, with a full size pool table, cable TV, and access to an outdoor patio which is equipped with a fire pit. Another full bath is located in the basement. On days when the weather is less than perfect for water fun, you can still enjoy the beautiful lake view or read a good book from the cozy 3 season porch located just off the main level.
For scuba diving enthusiasts: Lake Carlos is also the deepest lake on the Chain at 163’, and just a short distance off the dock it gets to 120’ deep, which makes it AWESOME for beginning and advanced scuba diving. I have been down to 100ft not far off the dock with good visibility by Minnesota standards. So, if you need some deep dives, you’ve found your spot.
The local area offers many outdoor and indoor activities. Bring your bike, rollerblades or walking shoes and enjoy the miles of beautiful trails. There are 55 miles of trails traversing the county side, check out Central Lakes Trail for more information. Test your driving skills at the go cart track or watch the professionals at the local speedway. Make sure you bring your clubs: there are six 18-hole courses within 20 miles, along with numerous other 9-hole courses. Is hitting the long ball not for you? Rent a putter and take the family out for a game of mini golf. Or visit the many little shops in historic downtown Alexandria or other nearby towns, visit the local museums, take in a Northwood’s league baseball game or enjoy one of the many weekend festivals often taking place. How about taking in an award-winning vineyard? They will offer you a glass of wine while you take in the scenery and unwind from a busy day. A visit to Minnesota’s first legal distillerycan offer an interesting afternoon activity
If motorcycling riding is for you, there are endless places to checkout within a close distance. If you want to take that bike for a little longer, but doable day ride, Lake Itasca State park, which is known as the start of the Mighty Mississippi, is an easy ride and is less than 2 hours down the road. There are several nice stops along the way for a picnic or many great restaurants along the way to enjoy. No matter what you choose to do, Minnesota offers spectacular scenery anytime of the year.
We bought this home to be our retirement home before we retired. We grew up in Minnesota but traveled the world for work but still love the Lakes of Minnesota.
Al Runzel purchased this house in 2002
We brought this property because it's an ideally arranged home to have the best access and views of Lake Carlos along with entertaining family and friends while providing enough beds to have those cherished folks spend the night with you!
Lake access, pool table, Carlos State park close by, free cable and WIFI access. Full kitchen and grill available.
Our stay at Al's house was great! We had room for all of our kids and grandchildren, which is a big crowd! The deck overlooking the lake provided impressive views of the lake, and also allowed us to keep an eye on the kids down by the dock. Inside, there was plenty of space to spread out and we never felt like we were on top of each other. The house is easy to get to, and had everything we needed to make some wonderful memories!
Family had a nice stay, we were very appreciative of the flexibility in letting us check in early and also permitting us to have a graduation celebration there for our son. It was an awesome setting! The only downside, was family had to do some cleaning of the outside furniture to be able to sit out back and enjoy the lake view. Overall a great experience and the owner was great to work with!
Great property for 8 women. Plenty of room for everyone to have their own space when needed. Fortunately, the weather was great and we were able to enjoy the beautiful outdoor deck & patio area. The pool table was also a bonus.
Would do it again!!
Great location and facilities. Owner very accomodating. Only problems were dropping faucet in kitchen sink, batteries dead in some remotes, and fireplace in great room didn't light.
Beautiful weekend for our family women's retreat. The house met all of our expectations. The view was beautiful. Shopping was great fun. We did all of our cooking at the house as we wanted to enjoy the nice weather & view. The owner was very accommodating and easy to communicate with. Would definitely recommend to someone who needs a large home to gather at. It was very nice. Thanks.
