About Scott Shanstrom

I grew up in Montana and several friends were involved with and owned dude ranches, historical resorts and guide services - I guided fly fishing on the Yellowstone River through High School and College. I've always liked the idea of travelers coming from all corners to experience and share wonderful places. In addition, I’ve traveled extensively for work and have stayed in a wide variety of accommodations, making note of what I appreciate and look for in accommodations which I work to provide in my vacation rental properties.

We have had a vacation home in Rancho Mirage for several years and each time we had to head back to the Pacific Northwest, we found it more and more difficult to leave the desert and all that it so famously offers. Fairly recently, the opportunity arose to locate to the Desert as our main residence. I liked the idea of developing properties as vacation homes for clients to enjoy, but be able to come and go without having to deal with and worry about maintenance, opening & closing the vacation home, managing services, and all of the ongoing expenses of owning a vacation home. Why Scott Shanstrom chose California Desert

After much looking and comparisons, we chose Rancho Mirage, and specifically the Tamarisk Country Club area, for our vacation home due to its impeccable reputation for its safety, elegance, sophisticated yet relaxed lifestyle, a stunning setting and this neighborhood’s protection from the valley winds. We wanted a home easy to live in that was conducive to indoor- outdoor living & entertaining. In addition, we were looking for maximum privacy along with a quiet setting away from all main arterial traffic noises. We were very fortunate to find all of this along with the added bonus of an enormous lot that adds to the exclusivity and enjoyment of very private indoor-outdoor desert living at its best.

This home has been remodeled and set up exclusively as a vacation feeling like you are camping out in someone else's home but instead your very own private resort....without all the people!

Great home and perfect location

My wife and I stayed for a week and loved the home. It has all the amenities you would want and the pool and spa are perfect for relaxing. The home is close to Palm Desert and Palm Springs and is less than an hour from Joshua Tree National Park. Scott was a great host-very responsive and easy to work with. We would definitely recommend staying here.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this property and Scott. The house has everything you could want/need for your stay. Scott didn't skimp on any detail. Beds are so comfy, showers are amazing, even the cutlery is top notch! The backyard is perfectly manicured and private. We had such a relaxing week and fully intend on coming back! THANK YOU!

Wonderful week at Villa de Solara

Thanks Scott for a wonderful week at Villa de Solara. We were relaxed as soon as we opened the door to this immaculate and well designed home. The pool and backyard were amazing and we able to enjoy the beautiful late September sunshine. The bedrooms were large with comfortable mattresses and the kitchen was equipped with high-end appliances. The wine fridge was a nice touch and much appreciated during our stay. We hope to return soon.

Not your standard vacation home.....much, much bet

Had a fantastic 3-day weekend in this beautiful, modern, very comfortable house. It was well-furnished with all the amenities you'd expect at a resort and it definitely did not feel like we were intruding in someone's home. AC worked perfectly during a very hot weekend. Pool is nice sized and well maintained. Couldn't have asked for more. We will be going back!

Everything is excellent at Villa de Solara

This is a top notch vacation rental. The house has excellent finishes and amenities throughout - things you would find in your own home, not your typical vacation rental. Everything is clean and bright, from the large-format glossy white floor tile to the cabinetry and stainless appliances. Unlike other vacation rentals we've visited, where it feels like they're trying to get away with the bare minimum of everything, this house is very well appointed. There are ample dishes, towels, cooking and eating utensils, many nice wooden hangers in the closets, Calphalon pots and pans, etc. We looked at a number of larger houses in the Palm Springs area, but were happy to have ended up here.

The back yard and pool area were as much our home for a week as the house was. Houses are fairly close together in this neighborhood, but the back yard, with its fencing and mature landscaping, feels like you're all alone with the pool, the palm trees, and the blue sky above.

Scott was a great host who showed the type of attention and hospitality that can only come with pride of ownership. We especially appreciated the fact that he only charged for the gas used to heat the pool during our stay, not the outlandish per-day flat fee that many places demand.

We had thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this house and would highly recommend Villa de Solara.

A Real Gem

Villa desolate was a private gem in the desert. We found the home to be immaculate, recently renovated and in tip-top shape. There were two separate seating areas, one for watching television or relaxing and another one for reading or visiting. There were mounted tvs in both bedrooms along with plenty of closet space and built-in shelving for clothing or shoes. A makeup mirror and more than enough hangers (wooden) for clothing are small touches that make you feel at home. Also both bathrooms offered a beautifully tiled double shower and double sinks along with an abundance of under cabinet space. The kitchen had all modern amenities including a gas stove. The back area was also very private with a pool, spa and fire pit complete with a generous seating area. It was a pleasure staying there and Scott was very professional and personable. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Lastly, you are centrally located to everything. Rancho Mirage is a very charming area along with Palm Desert, Indian Wells and Palm Springs. The El Paseo shopping district in Palm Desert is not to be missed. Also, you can walk to a really cute park and walking trail just a few minutes from the house. Don't believe you could find a safer place to vacation.

Tamarisk Country Club addition is a very quiet and safe neighborhood and highly sought after due to the natural protection from the majority of desert winds. The night desert sky has been thoughtfully preserved with very few street lights to showcase the amazing star viewing. The Tamarisk addition offers very quiet streets for morning and evening walks (or both!). A really great neighborhood for touring via bikes and beautiful landscaping and many architecturally recognized homes. From this home and neighborhood there is easy access to Palm Springs Airport, groceries, shopping and restaurants and the annual Coachella Valley events. This home is centrally located between downtown Palm Springs and Palm Desert - just blocks off of highway 111.
