I'm a retired interior designer. My husband and I moved to Kalispell in 2008 to join other family members who have been here for years. I'm a 3rd generation Montanan and love this state. I also love sharing this beautiful part of the world with the people who come to stay at Huckleberry Nest.

Ptarmigan Village is a year-round vacation resort with charming homes and condos spread over 52 acres on Big Mountain. Even though we live nearby in Kalispell we enjoy all the amenities it provides and love to stay here often when our condo is available. Winter skiing is nearby at the top of the mountain.
Even though it is not a large place I like the layout and the open space the upstairs loft provides. Condo's in the trees are often dark but ours has full afternoon sun and 3 skylights add to the ambiance. A cozy little Morso wood stove provides warmth and charm. Free firewood is included. What attracted me most to this unit was the large deck built out into the trees. We often get visits from the mule deer that populate the mountain!
This condo was perfect for our three-night stay in Whitefish. The unit is tidy, clean, and nicely appointed, and the complex is just a 10 minute drive from Whitefish and 30 minutes from Glacier National Park. The real selling point is the private lake access/dock offered by the condo association...it's about a 5 minute drive from the complex. It was amazing and had only one other person there - nice quiet solitude compared to the jam-packed zoo of the city beach!
The only downside was the window setup in the bedroom - it was quite warm while we were there, and the skylight would not open because of a missing crank. The other window had clear tape across it as if to keep it shut, but it was so warm we pulled it off in order to open the window (sorry!). I know the owner encourages feedback so I am sure she will address this as soon as she sees this :)
Overall, a great value and a wonderful introduction to Whitefish - we will surely be back!!
This was a darling and cozy cabin/condo with a really wonderful hominess and décor. It could maybe use a footstool to support the club chairs in living room or to somehow have a second larger chair to enjoy relaxing in the evening....the living area is small...not sure what would work best. It would be wonderful for a couple or even with a couple small children, and worked well for myself and my two adult sons although there are only two available beds so that was a little tight, but knew that when I rented it. It would be too small for two couples unless they are very comfortable together, as it is a smaller space. Still, I enjoyed the layout and décor so much that it compensated for the smaller size. The pool and hot tub are in a separate building you might want to drive down to, but were wonderful to be in the outdoor hot tub in the cool night air. I would definitely stay there again if traveling to glacier/whitefish area with a couple people. I wish we had more time and a little better weather to explore more as it was a bit cold and rainy off an on when we were there, and going to the sun highway in glacier was closed for snow already on sept 5th so we did not get to see the full drive. Wished I had another two or three days there to enjoy it more!
We had 2 nights here while visiting Glacier National Park. The place was everything it advertised. Charming décor, very comfy, and great location. I would highly recommend.
We were there for four wonderful days. We especially loved cooking and relaxing on the deck. All of the special touches for example, well appointed kitchen, luxurious towels and the cold bottle of wine. We would definitely come back.
Well equipped, very clean condo. Quiet location. Loved having access to the pools. Suited our family perfectly. I will note that the public and private beaches were very rocky vs sandy.
We had a week there and really enjoyed the peace and quiet of the location. The start -ups that were in the condo were a plus, condiments, coffee and a bottle of wine! The bed and sheets/pillows were really nice and comfy. A short walk to the outdoor pool/sauna and close to the ski area for summer fun. I would say it's good for couples but not for a family because there is one bedroom(loft).
Whitefish Mountain Resort is 1 mile away. Fabulous Alpine skiing in the winter ~ 2 zip lines and Tree Walk in the summer! Great restaurants open in the summer as well as winter. SO much to see and do!
