This newly air-conditioned home is hidden away in nature, yet centered in the urban bustle of Silicon Valley and minutes from Stanford University. Enjoy a large master bedroom suite with a California King bed and newly remodeled bathroom. The living room includes an old stone fireplace and piano for your enjoyment. The family room with its second fireplace and big-screen TV, opens into another bedroom wing with three bedrooms and 2 baths, each with a Queen bed. The fully private backyard with solar-heated pool, stately Oak trees, and large lawn, has entranced guests at three wedding dinners.
This is our family home. As our six children have married and begun families of their own, we find ourselves traveling to see grandchildren in various corners of the world. To support this travel, we rent our home during the Christmas holidays and early summer, mid-May to mid-July.
Owner purchased this house in 1998
Our street seems like it lies in a rural setting and yet we are moments from the renowned Stanford Shopping Center, restaurants, and all that Silicon Valley offers. We like the privacy and the convenience.
Gardening is a favorite past-time and we include hired gardeners in the rental price.
The SF peninsula is noted for some of the best weather in the world, with mild temperatures year-round. The pool is solar-heated and we swam in 85F water by the first week of May '13. Centered close enough to SF and yet within reach of Monterrey, our guest book includes all sorts of day sightseeing trips.
We loved the stay in your house! It is a great house, perfect location, and lovely garden and pool.
Our multi-generational family gathered in this embracing, warm, artistic, yet practical home over the Christmas holidays. The spacious well-furnished rooms, the cozy fireplaces, the fully equipped kitchen, provided us with a perfect setting for our family celebration. We felt as comfortable as if we were in our own home, but better! And even though it was winter, we enjoyed exploring the extensive surrounding gardens and pathways. We all agreed we would like to stay here again sometime in the summer and spend time in the beautiful pool and outdoor patios.
Our family of five stayed at this property for a wonderful two-week stay. It was such a pleasure to stay in someone’s beautiful home instead of a hotel. The location was ideally situated for our day trips to relatives in San Francisco and the beaches of Santa Cruz. We found the home comfortable, well-decorated and spotlessly clean.
This home has the potential to be a five-star property. It is spacious, the grounds are lovely and the area was ideal for our Stanford grad week. But upon arrival, we found a house that was in need of a really thorough cleaning. We immediately contacted the owner who apologized profusely and offered to try to find a cleaning company but we elected to do it ourselves as the rest of our group was arriving and we did not want the inconvenience. The owners did comp us a one day's stay which was fair, though I would have preferred not to spend my first day of vacation cleaning. Since there was a quite an expensive cleaning fee that guests pay, we were shocked to find the house in the condition it was in. We did provide the owners with a detailed list of the issues, along with photos, so hopefully they will take the necessary measures to improve this beautiful property. While some of the issues were related to the cleaning "mix-up," the overall cleanliness problem is much more systemic. For the extremely high price they charged during grad week, we expected near perfection!
Once we got the place cleaned, the rest of our stay was great and we enjoyed the home, the terrace and grounds. Our family of 6 had plenty of space and it was wonderful for entertaining!
A deep clean and some pet deodorizing could make this place perfect.
(It should be noted there is a dog that lives in this home when it is not being rented and there are definite signs of that - pet hair in the most unexpected places - in mixing bowls and on dinner napkins - and past "doggie smells" in the carpets, etc.) Also, there is no air conditioning which we knew. We did borrow and purchase some fans as there were three days/nights in mid-June that it was unseasonably hot and humid so air movement/cooling was needed. This may not be an issue most times of the year as the property is well shaded.
Our family of 11 stayed at the home in Menlo Park. It was an enjoyable stay with no problems.
If you like a large house, tucked away in the hills, with complete privacy you should consider this place. There is a large pool, amazing gardens, and overall very roomy but cozy place with everything you need.
I would stay here again.
Our family of five had a terrific two week stay. The house is comfortable and inviting, with more than enough space everyone to spread out of hang out together.
We loved the location, deep into a quite, tree-lined street, but close to everything.
Our favorite part of our stay was the beautiful outdoor space with a great pool, which our kids loved, and incredible landscaping and stunning trees (the Redwoods are amazing!).
And the Gray's were terrific to interact with; they were organized and made our stay very relaxing.
We stayed here for a week and loved every minute of it. Carol and Don were tremendously gracious and gave us all the details one would need to get the most out of the home. Simply stated, this home and location were perfect. Our family felt at ease, loved the pool in the hot summer weather, and appreciated being centrally located to the many activities available to us in the Bay Area. And this house was so spacious, enabling the family to really spread out and have individual space when we needed it.
We would return and stay again and again. Our sincerest thanks to Carol and Don!
This home is central to the beautiful nature and incredible cultural and recreational activities of the mid-peninsula area south of San Francisco. Take day drips with a 2-hour drive to the Monterrey Bay Aquarium, 17-mile drive at Pebble Beach and the art colony of Carmel. In the heart of Silicon Valley, you can visit the San Jose Tech Museum. For children, there is the SF zoo and new Exploratorium; San Jose's Happy Hollow and the fabulous Children's Discovery Museum. Short drives to wine-tasting or white sandy beaches.
