Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bath with Sound, Mt. Rainier, & city views

Come and enjoy our Waterfront Beach Cottage.

The cottage is located on Puget Sound with stunning southern views of the water, Mt. Rainier, and Washington State Ferries. The Seattle skyline and lights are viewable from the bulkhead and fire pit. It is a great place for a stress-relieving break or more active pursuits.

One of the things we enjoy most about our cozy cottage is watching local wildlife. Bald Eagles are easily seen from the home and deck. Seals, sea lions, cranes and other critters pass by daily. Orcas played off our beach in June 2013 and 2015. What a treat!

At low tide, throw on your water shoes and head to the beach to visit tidal pools brimming with colorful starfish and sea anemones. It’s great for anyone with a curious mind and is young at heart.

The Cottage is situated along a popular maritime route with Mt. Rainier as a backdrop. The water is studded with ferries, naval ships (including aircraft carriers and submarines), ocean-going ships, sail boats, yachts, kayaks and even paddleboards. If you like, you can use our 2 kayaks to explore yourself!

Another option is to use our five (5) hybrid/mountain bikes to ride along the largely flat South Beach Drive into Ft Ward Park and then on to Lynwood Center (Pleasant Beach). Lynwood Center has an art house theatre, bakery, restaurants, cafes, boutiques, ice cream, small grocery and a Sunday farmers' market.

Visit Winslow, the Island's primary shopping district which is 6 miles from the Cottage. You'll find everything you may need including groceries, retail therapy, movies and many excellent restaurants and pubs.

If you want to play golf there are several in the vicinity.

If gambling is your fun, a casino located just off the north end of the Island. For cycling enthusiasts, Bainbridge Island is a well known bike riding destination.

The Island Also offers numerous trails and walks including one just up Toe Jam Hill Road and others at the foot of Blakely Harbor, as well as numerous others throughout the Island.

The Island is home to several wineries and a distillery if you are interested in tasting some of our local products.

Or, if you are just looking to get a break from it all, you most certainly can find relaxation and a retreat in our cottage all by itself. No need to leave.

All rooms have water views. The cottage features a beautiful and extremely well-equipped Kitchen.

The very comfortable Living and Dining rooms provide captivating views of the comings and goings on the water and the lights from West Seattle. In the evening, the illuminated ferries will remind you of Christmas tree ornaments.

The 2 Bedrooms have queen beds, flat screen TVs, and hummingbird feeders that attract birds from dawn until sunset – year round.

Both Bathrooms have skylights. The Master Bath has a low curb, walk-in shower with a small seat. The Main Bath has a claw foot tub where you can relax, watch the sky and trees above.

The deck enjoys sun during the morning and early afternoon and then shade in the afternoons. Relax on the outdoor furniture, have a sun-filled breakfast or lunch and watch the eagles soar past.

Continue down the steps towards the water for areas where you can sit and enjoy views of Seattle skyline, relax in a two person hammock, enjoy the fire pit, paddle kayaks, or hop down to the beach to explore tide pools and collect shells and cool rocks at low tide.

About Deb Fussell

We split our time between Seattle and Bainbridge Island truncated by attacks of wanderlust. We enjoy sharing what we know and love about Bainbridge and Seattle.

Deb Fussell purchased this house in 2004

Why Deb Fussell chose Puget Sound

The View!!! From the moment we walk through the front door, we were stunned by the views of the Mountain and the Sound. Our original plans were to re-build and modernize the cottage, but instead, we improved it and still love it.

We lived here for two years and commuted to work from the Island. We have found that the cottage is a fantastic place to 'chill' or 'get jazzed'.

We love the feeling of being away from it all, but its only a short distance into Island centers - Winslow or Lynnwood where dining, pubs, entertainment and shopping options are numerous.

Additionally, Seattle is just a short ferry ride away.

What makes this house unique

This place puts the 'C' in Cozy, the 'FUN' in Functional, and provides a bead on maritime and wild life comings and goings.

Its a great place to enjoy the Pacific Northwest at its best. Whether from the comfort of the cottage, the expansive deck or down by the water, this is the place for you.

The kitchen is well-equipped, with just about every kitchen tool or appliance. Additionally, the Hummingbird feeder at the kitchen sink provides close encounters with the birds year round. Too cool!

The living room is nicely decorated, and comfy. It's large windows on two sides provide a fantastic view of the water and wildlife moving past. The expansive wrap around deck provides a bird's eye view of the water, the mountain, wildlife and maritime traffic.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks so much. We are so happy to be back here. Dede took a bath, put on the uniform and fell asleep on the patio about 2 hours ago waiting on dinner (ribeye on the grill with chimichurri sauce) and is still out. My key board is sticky from the Texas honeycomb I brought with me to eat with your yummy cheese. I grilled the bread you got for us with the steak and ate it….all.

I ate steak without her and feel no guilt. The tide has come in and I could cry every time a humming bird comes to feeder. It is beautiful. I am being scolded on the quarter hour (for unknown sins, I assume) by an angry ground squirrel who wants my ass off the porch.

Clearly time to freshen the cocktail.

Notes:
We fell in love with the 1912 cottage that has been through a few remodels over time, including ours. It is quaint and cozy, and enjoys some of the most beautiful vistas of Mt. Rainier, the water, and maritime traffic on the island. You'll absolutely love it here.

Exactly as advertised, cozy cottage! Incredible views, and wonderful customer service!

  • 5 of 5

We decided to explore the Northwest this year for Spring Break. I found round trip tickets from Los Angeles to Seattle for $129 so decided to give it a try. Found the South Beach Cozy Cottage on VRBO and booked it because of a reasonable cost and great view. I contacted the owner, had about a 15 min conversation and was sold. Views from kitchen, living room and back deck are awesome, my only regret is it was a little chili to spend a lot of time on the deck. Getting to the cottage is an adventure too. Small private road that passes several water front houses until you finally get to the cottage. Upon arrival we entered the house and found a nice card from the owner, wine, salami, cheese, eggs, milk, jam in the refrigerator. Oatmeal , and coffee were also set out. I have rented on VRBO about half a dozen times and have never had this nice of service. The cottage is small with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a pull out couch and 2 couches. Plenty of board games in the cupboard and music, movies if you need more entertainment. Washer and dryer in the cottage is also an added bonus. I would definitely rent this cottage again if I'm ever in the Seattle area again (30 min Ferry ride to Seattle)

Wonderful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a great place to get away! Despite a little rain, we had such a great week. Deb was a wonderful hostess. We arrived to find the refrigerator stocked with essentials, including some wonderful wine and cheese. She even left all the makings for s'mores! We loved watching the humming birds from every window. We also met a friendly deer and a curious bald eagle while walking down to explore the beach. The rain gave us the perfect excuse to light a fire and watch the ferries go by. We found tons of great restaurants in the area and enjoyed riding the ferry across to Seattle. The cottage is so warm and cozy. And it has everything you would every need. Thank you for making this wonderful spot available to us. We HIGHLY recommend this to anyone wanting a quiet getaway with amazing views.

Cottage by the Sea

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is straight out of fairy tale book. And, even the ride to get there is just as delightful as you travel though the quaint roads and forest-like trees that begin to prepare you for this wonderful retreat. As you enter the cottage you'll be pleasantly surprised by the well-appointed and updated kitchen and dining room. The living room has a fireplace (perfect for wintertime fires) which we used almost the entire time. Most of the windows have views of the sound or of the trees. It was very quiet and peaceful and I was able to enjoy the beautiful sounds of the wildlife. The hummingbirds are in abundance and are very social friendly birds. We saw one eagle from the living room window and a deer on Toe Jam Road. There is also a very large deck with plenty of seating, but more importantly the spectacular views exceeded our expectation as we watched the ferries go by and awaited the most amazing sunrises. The beach access is right below the cottage with nice wide steps to reach the bottom. There is a bench, and a hammock at one landing point of the elevation, and chairs and a fire-pit at bottom by the sound to roast marshmallows - if your in the mood. Better yet - just take some wine. The surroundings outside of the cabin are simply stunning if you love nature and water. We also took a two hour walk from the cottage to Fort Ward Park - which was quite lovely. In the cottage, there are two bedrooms and two baths. The bathroom gave true meaning to the word "rain shower" you'll have to see that for yourself since I don't want to be a spoiler. I can't say enough about the owner of cottage and the hospitality that was displayed by her. It was outstanding and she provided us with some goodies in the kitchen. Her attention and caring that we had a good stay was insurmountable. We have rented many fine properties in various settings, but she was by far, accommodating to say the least. You won't be disappointed with this property.

We loved this place!

  • 5 of 5

Cozy Cottage is a great description of this property. We really liked the place! It has a beautiful view. For our family it was a nice winter weekend getaway. We really appreciated the wood burning stove and it added to the ambience of the place as we puzzled or relaxed with a book. We used the bikes to ride along the water to Fort Ward and eventually to Lynnwood. Although it rained and we didn't take advantage of the area down below, it would be a great place to use the campfire and have a great view of the city of Seattle.

Debbie was very helpful and accommodating. It was a pleasure renting from her!

Cozy cabin with a wonderful view that is thoughtfully equipped.

We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The view is incredible, the kitchen is extremely well stocked and the owner is responsive and thorough. I will add that this is the only vacation rental I've been to that had a properly sharp chef's knife!
