Originally from the Washington DC Metropolitan area, I travel frequently around the US and Abroad.
Anne E Mayo purchased this house in 2009
On vacation, I discovered the Sleeping Bear Dunes Natl Lakeshore area and fell in love with the diversity and beauty of this Great Lakes gem. I was struck by the crystal clear waters of the many lakes & rivers in Leelanau County, the dynamic atmosphere of the UNM collegiate town of Traverse City, as well as the bucolic rolling farmland, orchards and wineries of the Leelanau peninsula. Coupled with the fabulous restaurants & boutiques of the charming lakeside towns & the scenic beauty of the Manitou islands, I was hooked!
I visit my No. MI lake house year round and I am consistently surprised and in awe of the natural beauty that awaits each visit. ENJOY!
I brought my family here over Memorial day weekend this year and we had an absolutely great time. We drove from Chicago area and were pleasantly surprised when we walked in - beautiful brand new kitchen with stainless appliances, clean, all the supplies and space you need to have great family vacation! The decor was super cute and fun, and totally teenage friendly space. The views of the lake were beautiful and visible from the whole house practically. The bedrooms and bathrooms look like they were recently remodeled, very nice!! The deck overlooking the lake is huge and perfect for family BBQ and entertaining, and the teenagers were never at a loss for fun. The sunsets were amazing and the fire-pit was an added bonus, with plenty of wood for fun evenings star gazing with a cozy fire blazing!! Beautiful location, very peaceful and close to fun activities at Sleeping Bear Dunes, Golf, beautiful beaches, cute towns with shopping and dining... I highly recommend this property for a family getaway or romantic hideaway - one of the nicest homes we've stayed in on VRBO.
My family, kids (7,5,1) and the in-laws had a wonderful stay at Lime Lake. If a central location to Leelanau Peninsula is important, this spot is ideal. Two golf courses less than 5 minutes away (Manitou Passage and Sugar Loaf), Sleeping Bear Dunes climb 20 min, Traverse City 25 min, Fish Town, 20 min. It allowed me and my father in law to play a round early in the morning and be back to go take adventures with the kids (raspberry picking, Jacob's Farm, just 15 minutes from the house). Wineries are all over the place, but still need to drive.
We had a couple of issues when we first arrived, but Anne was attentive and addressed each one quickly. We had ants, but the exterminator treatment wiped them out by the 2nd day. DSL, was down, but Anne provided a myFi wireless until they brought it on-line. I had to work all week, so this was important. There wasn't a time where either a text or phone call wasn't returned quickly and the issue resolved to our satisfaction.
We grilled out almost every night, and there is an excellent butcher in Cedar, Pleva's, that I would highly recommend. Great little ice cream shop across the street as well. There is also a farmers market about 10 minutes West on M-22, Good Harbor Farm, that had some incredible pork chops, fresh all organic vegetables, cottage bacon, and basically a petting zoo for the kids. Very entertaining. It's just after the Sleeping Bear National Park sign. North side of the road. Other good places to eat or drink:
Art's Tavern - Glen Arbor (good food and good beer)
Pine Cone - Glen Arbor (Ice Cream)
Tandem Cider - North of Suttons Bay ( a good alternative to wine)
The house is newly renovated and there are a couple of finishing touches that Anne stated will be completed this fall, but overall we enjoyed it. The bedrooms all had mini-AC units, but we didn't need them as the nights were pretty cool. Kitchen is a good size with new appliances, the couch is very comfortable. The deck is big. Ton's of room to play and eat.
The water is less than knee deep for at least 40 feet, which was great for the kids!! Very quiet lake as well. With no city lights, you could see all of the stars in the western sky. Beautiful.
Anyone looking for a great location for a family trip, this is a tough spot to beat.
My family really enjoyed our week in this beautiful lakefront home, it exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed the spacious deck with views to the lake and manicured lawn, as well as the fire pit, outdoor shower and boat ramp. It made our outdoor living very comfortable, and the expansive sliding glass doors made for an easy transition into the house. Inside, it was open style with a fully renovated kitchen and bathrooms: granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and newly tiled. The decor was tasteful and the furniture was very comfortable. The house was very clean, and the owner a pleasure to deal with, always responsive to our needs.
We took at quick 4 day stay during our US trip from Singapore and were blown away by this beautiful lake setting and house. The views were absolutely stunning! Plus everything in the house is practically brand new and was super clean and really tastefully decorated. Not a cheaply furnished rental at all. I'm a cook so was most excited about the kitchen - it was a dream to cook in with all new appliances and counter tops - just loved it. We totally enjoyed the fire pit and patio too. During our stay we didn't have any bug issues, but perhaps I would not be surprised should there be the odd bug...after all it is summertime and it is in the woods...nature is sort of that way:) All in, the booking was easy, the owner was super attentive (called the evening after we arrived to make sure all was good) and gave us her direct contact info should we need it. I will likely never be back in Michigan again, but will definitely recommend the place to others heading that way. It was amazing!
So sad. At last minute we tried to find a spot for our family to rent as my son who is Army was given leave. Wondered why this home was available at last minute on holiday weekend.... now I know why, Anyhow it advertised free internet- there was none, while there the pest control guy came to spray and it was needed. There was a cock roach in our bedroom. One of the showers didnt work. Other peoples food in refrig and closets. Not what you would expect for this level of cost but worst of all is owner has not return our deposit and now is starting to make up stories after 3 weeks of waiting. So disappointing. Guess thats why she doesnt have any other reviews. Avoid this rental, heart breaker and added stress you dont need
