Located in Roswell's Historic area next to the town square - a popular site for weddings, weekend art shows, special events and restaurants. Original Roswell Mill House built in 1853, renovated in 1995 winning a restoration award and upgraded in 2012 saving the original heart pine floors, beams, working wood fireplaces in bed rooms and living room. Plenty of parking in the back. Located across the street from the old mill, covered bridge, dam and Chattahoochee nature park with hundreds of acres of hiking trails.
Bob is an attorney and Karen an interior designer. Karen operated a design studio in the Mill House before converting it back to its original use as a residence for mill workers and their families. She kept the interior architecture open and modern while embracing the historical preservation guidelines.
Bob Clydesdale purchased this house in 1994
A very unique location and historical feeling. You can see the town square at the top of the street where weddings and special events are held every weekend surrounded by restaurants. A covered bridge next to the Roswell Mill is across the street. The ruins of the old Roswell Mill burned in the Civil War Battle of Atlanta are part of the extensive hiking trails.
Perfect for wedding parties, reunions, executive housing or family visits. Close to events and restaurants. Near GA 400 for 25 minute car ride to down town Atlanta. Two blocks from Church Street where the ten churches have weddings every weekend. Quiet street and hiking into the Chattahoochee Forest Preserve. Two antebellum mansions on the square and Smith Plantation a mile away open for touring.
Bob and Karen- Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. We really appreciated the attention to detail in the décor- no doubt done by Karen and all the special touches. We are sad to have to leave here but we are off to Savannah. Hope that house can measure up after this on…lol. Thanks again for your hospitality.
We choose this house as an planned elopement and actually got married in the living area in front of the fireplace! The house was much nicer and more than we expected, as we are history buffs and are adventurers the décor and history matched this with us which made it the perfect location for our intimate ceremony on Monday Feb 6, 2017. We stayed here Saturday, Sunday in prep for our wedding and to relax in the area. Then our wedding night on Monday before checking out on Tuesday. Our professional photographer we hired couldn't believe homes like this actually existed that you can rent. The details in the home and the lighting were perfect for our stay and special day. Everything worked great and did photos on the back porch then across the street at the old mill park. Couldn't have been a better choice for us and our special day. We are from Atlanta area but wanted a special location for our special day excellent choice!!
Our family (mom, dad, 2 college-aged sons) spent 3 nights, 4 days, for a wedding at Ivy Hall. 1853 had plenty of room, the kitchen was well stocked, there were plenty of pillows, blankets, sheets. We ordered in a Swallow at the Hollow Barbeque dinner, which relatives stopped by to enjoy with us around the large dining room table.
The house is a 12-minute drive to the North Springs MARTA station, where our sons arrived straight from Atlanta Hartsfield. Pick-up/drop-off easy. We walked Old Town, hiked nearby trails, went to the Saturday farmer's market.
We had a few questions during our stay, which Bob answered via email. Checking in/out was flexible to the extent could be arranged, which was appreciated.
Old Town Roswell is a bustling place, and the house is a block from Atlanta St., a major artery through town. Across the street is a “School of Rock” type business. Next door is a small business with its own parking area in the back, which was generally quiet on the weekdays and appeared closed over the weekend. We heard many sirens during our stay, but the nearest fire and police stations are several blocks from 1853.
Our son was getting married in Roswell and we needed a place close to the rehearsal party and wedding for six nights. We were one minute from the rehearsal party at the Mill Restaurant and five minutes from Naylor Hall. The location was great. The house was outstanding. It was great to have a porch to drink coffee in the morning. Everything in this historic house seemed to have a story. Kitchen appears to have been updated. We even got to wash several loads of clothes. Never met the owners face to face but I felt that we had met because of all the welcome notes that were left for us. I would highly recommend this house. You will not be disappointed.
We stayed here for 10 days and enjoyed it immensely. There were plenty of beds in the house. The house was clean and tidy. Everything was in working order. The 1 bathroom was big although the shower itself is pretty small. Plenty of water pressure. The location is great. Easy access to everywhere you need to go. I would definitely stay here again. It was perfect for our ten day stay in Atlanta.
This is a gorgeous, immaculate, professionally landscaped house with a wonderfully equipped kitchen, extremely comfortable beds, and warm living spaces, all close to restaurants, shops, etc. As a bonus, it is a short walk - practically across the street - to the Chattahoochee Nature Reserve, with great trails. And it comes with two bikes! The owner was terrific at communicating, made everything easy, it really was perfect.
I rented this property for my wedding weekend. Due to a combination of an Indian/Hindu and Catholic wedding, the event was several days long so I rented the property from Thursday - Monday. I requested to check in a couple of hours early (2:00 instead of 4:00) and Bob was very accommodating to my request. The house was already cleaned and setup prior to my early check in even though Bob had disclaimed that the cleaners may still have been there at 2:00.
The home is very elegant and comfortable. Thursday and Friday, it was just me and my sister-in-law who stayed the night there, but the house was used to its full potential all Saturday. We had all the bridesmaids and the moms there on Saturday to get dressed for the wedding. It was such a convenient location for us since our events were at Roswell Historic Cottage, St. Peter Chanel and Ivy Hall. The property is a wonderfully centralized location in downtown Roswell.
Just a couple of things that we had to do - ran out to get some extra toilet paper and paper towels. The one roll each might have been fine for a couple of folks staying there, but since we were pretty packed Saturday, we needed to get some more. No fault of the owner - just a heads up in case you might have a few folks at the house. We were also searching for outlets upstairs for phone chargers and hair dryers, but then again, this is a historic home so that comes with the design.
Overall, wonderful stay! We all enjoyed the property and will not hesitate renting it again!
