Beautiful, small, lakefront cottage modestly decorated in nautical theme, overlooking private sand and stone beach with lake frontage. The spectacular sunsets sold us on this home, and we enjoy the nearby area, too. Situated amongst other weekend get-away homes, this is a fabulous spot to relax on the deck overlooking the grassy hill leading down to the beach, watch the waves rolling in, the Great Lakes ships passing by on the horizon, the sun dappling the waves in the morning and setting so dramatically in the evening.
Our children love going into Geneva-on-the-Lake, with its 1950's shopping strip-lined with amusement halls, putt-putt golf, waterslides, shops, and restaurants. We enjoy visiting Geneva State Park with its lodge and marina, the wineries in the area, the beautiful covered bridges and great antique shops in Ashtabula Harbor, and incredible views as you drive along the lake. An hour to Erie, Pennsylvania, and an hour to downtown Cleveland, the area remains quiet and serene, not overly built and commercialized.
After a day of exploring, we can enjoy a full meal cooked in the ample kitchen (with full-size refrigerator and gas oven, plenty of kitchenware) while the kids pop in a video or DVD in the living room with fireplace (fold-out couch for one person sleeping) with a sliding glass door leading to the deck overlooking Lake Erie. There is an enclosed porch (with outdoor furniture) and sleeper sofa, also overlooking the lake.
Updated furniture in the living room, with new Crate & Barrel arm chairs and a pull-out couch.
The master bedroom features a king-size bed and plentiful storage in the dresser. The other bedroom features a bunkbed perfect for kids, with a twin-size bed on top, and a full-size mattress below, dresser storage, and a TV with VHS. There is also an attached one-car garage which we use to store firewood, lawncare equipment. It is not available to guests.
We love swimming in the summer, and awesome views of nature in the fall. We enjoy all the amenities of the area, including great golfing nearby, full service groceries in Geneva and Ashtabula. We know we will be spending the next few years just taking in all that the area has to offer from wineries to local theatre in Ashtabula, to covered bridge and grape festivals, to glorious lake views.
We have free wireless available, and a local calls only phone. There is no cable TV but plenty of dvds, videos and loads of cds from jazz to pop to classical. Beach access is shared with two other cottages with shared stairs down and across a private yard. It is a quiet, family friendly beach, great for sea glass and fossil hunting in the day and bonfires at night. You are welcome to bring your dog, if he or she is well-behaved! There is no air conditioning. we have found our ceiling fans do just fine on the lake.

I loved this sweet little Beach House. The view is as good as it looks in the pictures. I needed a weekend away and this place was perfect. I knew the weather was going to be overcast and colder over the weekend, but it didn't matter. I curled up on the couch with a good book and fire while watching the storm roll in. The house had everything I needed. It was clean and stocked with books, games, puzzles, movies. I could definitely imagine it in the summer with the large beautiful deck to enjoy the lake. The owner and manager were wonderful to deal with and encouraged me to contact them at any time with any concerns. I didn't have one issue. And I look forward to coming back when it is warmer as there are a lot of places and parks in the area. Great place!!
My wife and I had a great time at the cottage. The view of the lake is fabulous. Waking up to sound of the waves in the morning is the only way to start your day. The cottage was very clean and centrally located for all of the local attractions. The owner was very accommodating. Great get away spot for some R & R.
I'm not certain where all the "5 star" reviews come from on this property but that was NOT our experience at all.
While the property does have a wonderful view, the house itself is in dire need of a thorough cleaning (and THEN some) --as well as quite a bit of maintenance that has not been being performed in years apparently.
To name a few "issues": dishes in the cupboards were sticky when we went to use them, the frig shelves were dirty, no vacuum had been run in livingroom -- as evidenced by fruit loops on carpet, the windows behind the blinds in the sunroom were covered in cobwebs, there was a bag of garbage laying out on the cement slab, and no soap or body wash was available for use in the shower/tub.
Maintenance wise: there were water stains all over the ceiling in the livingroom, the screen door to the deck had a large hole in it and was partly off the track, the towels left in the bathroom for use were raggedy and fraying on the edges, weeds were growing up between the steps that led down towards the grassy area above the water etc.
There is no direct beach access from this property -- unless you want to scale a 7 foot high retainer wall! There are steps from the deck leading down to a grassy area above the beach -- but from there, it just drops off - thus there is no safe access! The neighboring property had previously allowed some visitors to utilize their steps to get down to the beach -- until there were issues with broken glass being left behind etc -- therefore the owner was notified that her renters were no longer allowed to utilize the steps ---which we were not notified of until a few days prior to our arrival.
While this is in a great location - and has a great view, I would not return to stay at this property.
My girlfriend and I had a memorable 4th of July weekend at Camden Cottage. The view of the lake was to die for and we loved the cute and cozy feel of the home, it was completely outfitted with kitchen ware and many other conveniences for vacationers. We ate at restaurants that we would not expect to find in this area. Rennicks Meat Market in downtown Ashtabula was outstanding and Allesandro's Italian Restaurant was perfect to walk to from the cottage for some takeout to enjoy while watching the gorgeous Lake Erie sunsets from the deck. We loved walking down to the beach to swim, but note that there are rocks along a break wall to climb down to actually reach the sand and water. We will definitely be returning for another visit. Thank you so much for opening your home to us!
This home is the perfect place to get away from it all but with the comforts of home. The view is by far the most wonderful thing about this lake house. Sitting on the Adirondack chairs looking out over Lake Erie was so relaxing and peaceful. I read in this spot for hours. It rained the entire second day I was there, but that didn't but a damper on the fun. I watched several movies from the vast video library, make my meals in the well-stocked (nothing fancy, but complete and easy to work in) kitchen and took my dog out for walks on the beach several times. It was really cute to watch her around the water for the first time - she loved the beach. I needed a getaway from the city to rejuvenate and refresh my mind and this house was perfect for that. Thank you for a great time and I hope to come back again.
A completely adorable cottage was the perfect place for my friends and I to spend a long weekend! The view was truly out-of-this-world, a crimson sunset, and super easy steps that lead you down to the beach. There is a great Italian restaurant right up the road, tons of great local independent wineries, and a retro-vintage Geneva-on-the-Lake for a fun night out. The house was totally clean with nautical decorations, and the furniture, while not completely perfect, did not take away from the incredible view and location, with lots of places to sit outside and enjoy the weather and water! You can't beat this place, it's such a gorgeous view of Lake Erie - I can't wait to return soon!
This area filled with activities; especially covered bridges, wine tours, cute little 1950 amusement park; wonderful fishing and Marina at Geneva State Park and Ashtabula rivers. The cottage is one hour from Cleveland so you can also get to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Severence Hall, the Cleveland Zoo and other attractions in the city if you so desire.
