Another fab holiday in this beautifully kept cottage. We have been in the cottage 3 times twice during the summer and the last a min-break before we return next July for our 2 week stay. What can l say the cottage is spotless and has everything you can possibly need for your stay it is a pleasure to stay in even during the not so good weather as the views from the cottage are stunning we can't wait for next year...thanks Paul & Jill for having us...

Fantastic

We have stayed here twice and can think of only two reasons why we might not return here again.

1. I drop dead

2. We buy the cottage!

Here's the drill:

You'll arrive down the B3192 to be met with spectacular views of a beautiful area and then head to the cottage. Paul usually meets you on arrival and explains how everything works. The property is spotlessly clean and incredibly well appointed, with everything you need for your stay and that is saying a lot for our family of four. A lovely touch is the welcome pack containing everything you'll probably forget to bring with you, and it includes eggs, butter, milk and tea bags.

It is no word of a lie when I tell you that every room has a view to die for. The property looks directly up the Teign Estuary towards Newton Abbot and you can see everything from the pretty town of Shaldon, people messing about in the river on small boats, people fishing, the trains that hug the water passing by to big ships coming in and out of the port. In fact, there are even complimentary binoculars which ensure minutes staring out the window, easily become hours!

The ground floor features a cottage style kitchen and a good sized bathroom with stairs leading to the first floor living space with a huge window for watching the world go by. A further flight of stairs take you to two good sized bedrooms which have the same amazing views. If the weather were to be bad, there is a large flatscreen TV and a DVD player in the living room as well as a television in each bedroom. Reliable WiFi is also available too. The property is professionally cleaned and is spotless - quite an achievement given the sandy nature of guest's shoes!

The "To Do" List:

- Ferry to Shaldon

- Shaldon Zoo

- Ness Cove

- Grand Pier

- Sea Wall Walk

- The Beachcomber Cafe

- Finn McCools Chip Shop

Exeter is also an excellent place to shop and I'd recommend doing it by train as you enjoy the spectacular views on the journey and don't have to faff about parking. Ask for "the cheapest way for x people to get to Exeter Central" as often First Great Western have special deal tickets. And get off at Central rather than St Davids!

Overall, I would recommend this property to anyone. We will be staying again over the coming years and I hope others get to enjoy it too - just not on the weeks we try and book!

A superb place to stay with marvellous views.

  • 5 of 5

Cannot fault the accommodation at all. Salty Cottage is clean, well decorated and equipped and is so conveniently situated for the town centre, local pubs and restaurants. It has marvellous views over the harbour and Teign Estuary - would love to wake up to that view every day! We just wished we could have stayed longer. Phil - Farnborough, Hants

Totally stunningly beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in Teignmouth before so we new what the Salty cottag looks like and we were so pleased to have made the last minute booking. Paul the owner met us with the keys as we arrived and when he opened the door we were so pleased with everything. It was beautifully decorated, so welcoming and cosy, spacious but compact at the same time. Each room has a view to die for and the cottage is so warm and comfortable , the perfect place to stay whatever the time of year or whatever the weather decides to throw at you. We spent the most relaxing week and fully recahrged our batteries and even got a suntan from sitting outside on the bench in the sun, not bad for March. e only wish we could stay there, we really didn't want to leave at all, we have also booked for next year, what more can I say

Simply Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for two weeks from 6/8/2011 - the views are stunning - the property perfectly set up - can't be faulted, kitchen has everything you need, lounge has large LCD TV, however we hardly watched TV because the views from the lounge were amazing - Jill and Paul are there if you need them and are very friendly - the locals are very friendly also and have nothing but good things to say about the property and Jill and Paul's family. The food at the Crab Shack and Fresco is very, very good - HOWEVER book in advance! also try "The Ness" over in Shaldon. We went on a bay cruise (very good value). I LOVE Teignmouth, always have (been coming since I was 8 (NOW 44)) and we will be back and will stay at Salty Cottage (if available).

Owner's Response: We are just happy that they enjoyed their stay with us and can see what teignmouth/shaldon has to offer the visitors and locals alike and we like to think our cottage as our house rather than just a rental property and just want to make sure our quests enjoy themselves without any problems Jill, Sandra and Paul

Fantastic week away

  • 5 of 5

This quaint harbour side cottage is furnished to a high standard and is well maintained. The welcome pack is the best ive ever had ( the crusty bread and fresh baked scones were delicious ) tea , coffee , sugar , milk ,butter and eggs . A really warm welcome awaits you and any queries or help is only a phone call away. Stunning views across the harbour to Shaldon will keep you at the lounge window for hours as the boats and people come and go . Take your morning cup of coffee and sit on the bench , everyone stops to chat .

There are many lovely restaurants to choose from 2 of our favourites were 26 and the Wild Goose . If you enjoy a walk then the coast path from Teignmouth to Dawlish is a must but be warned there are a couple of very steep hills.

We stayed during carnival week which my 2 teenagers loved especially the nightly live music on the Den.

We will definitely be going back to Salty Cottage again.

The holiday and historic port of Teignmouth is located at the mouth of the River Teign. The town boasts a long sandy beach with a promenade and a pier with amusements (why not grab an ice cream and watch the sun set in one of the deck chairs available to hire?!).

Various facilities and shops are just a 5 minute level walk from the property including heated swimming pool, outdoor multi-sports court, crazy golf, award winning children's play area and many eateries and public houses.

For those seeking water based activities there are sea fishing trips and river cruises available on locally owned boats. Sailing and kayaking are also available on a hire basis.

A short ferry ride away (foot passengers only) takes you to Shaldon. A lovely waterside village with a range of shops and hillside golf course. We recommend a visit to the Wildlife Trust followed by refreshments in the Ness House Inn - providing an unrivalled view back over Teignmouth.
