Family Time in Maui

  • 5 of 5

The owners of this Mana Kai condo were wonderful people to work with! They went above and beyond the call to make our stay the best. The condo was clean and well maintained and outfitted with beach necessities. The kitchen was well-stocked and very servicable. The condo overlooks beautiful Keawakapu Beach and you can see all the way to Wailea from the lanai. There is plentiful sea life for snorkeling right outside the condo. As well as fish, we saw eels, mantas and turtles. The Mana Kai has a great pool, a deli, a first-class restaurant and rental equipment all available to you. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone and thank the owners again for their generosity and kindness. Mahalo! We will come again!

Overall ok

  • 1 of 5

The condo unit was perfect. The resort and staff were awful. The first three days we were there a group of three or four local boys seem to take over the pool. They rode their bikes to the resort and leaned them up against a tree at the resort. Then they hit the beach. When they were finished on the beach they helped themselves to the pool. They didn't shower to remove all the sand they just jumped in. One of the boys didn,t even use the gate to get to the pool, he climbed the fence. Once in the pool, they were loud, annoying, and rude. They were jumping, diving, doing flips, and even tried to make a slide with one of the lounge chairs. We called this to the attention of the security personnel and the front desk. They did nothing and the next couple of days they were back again. We chalked it up to the boys must of been related to either security people or the front desk people because they didn't seem to care. We have stayed at the Mana Kai several times and have never experienced anything like it.

Owner's Response: John - Thanks for staying at the Mana Kai Resort #207 and telling us that the condo "was perfect" and yet it's almost humorous to receive a 1 star review! Very sorry to hear there were unsupervised youngsters visiting, but there's much more to the wonderful resort, and I think that it's not very fair to the elderly owners of 207 to shoulder a 1 star review regarding this matter. Hope that your vacation was fantastic otherwise - and thanks to all the guest groups that have enjoyed 207 this summer season !

Great condo, great location!

  • 5 of 5

I have personally stayed in a number of rental units at Mana Kai over the years, and we had a wonderful stay at Mana Kai #207 for 10 days. The condo has a great view down Keawakapu Beach (one of my personal favorite beaches in Maui), which made it perfect for swimming, sunning, beach walking, and even stand-up paddle boarding, which we tried on our last day. The condo itself is clean and exactly as advertised. Being that the rates for this condo were less than most others found at Mana Kai, and the photos are quite clear, I knew what we were getting. Sure, you can spend over $1000 more for 10 nights at a more upgraded condo at Mana Kai, but that didn't make too much sense to us. We'd rather save the cash for some of Maui's amazing activities and restaurants! The only cons we had were not deal breakers. This unit does sit directly above the pool, and you can expect pool frolicking noise from families during the day. This was not a bother to us at all. If we truly wanted quiet time, we simply closed the sliding glass doors and it became very quiet. There is no ac in the main part of the unit (the back bedroom has a wall unit), which is clearly mentioned in the unit description. For us, the trade winds supplied all the air we needed. It was lovely to sleep with the doors open, listening to the waves. For the record, very few units at Mana Kai have ac in the main areas of the units. We would have loved to have had some laundry detergent and condiments/spices available. My guess is many guests leave these items behind, but not sure where they end up! We bought salt, pepper, and a few other items we left for the next guests. That said, it was nice to find beach chairs and an umbrella to use for our daily beach treks! Overall, a good value for Mana Kai, and we were quite happy at unit #207.

Love this place!

  • 5 of 5

We have come back to the Mana Kai upwards of 10 times, starting in 1993, and the last few times we have stayed in this unit. It is great! It has a very convenient location within the Mana Kai, particularly if you are travelling with others. It's location over the pool means you can call down when lunch is ready, the elevator and washers and dryers are right there (really handy this last time when we had a baby generating extra laundry along) and you can easily walk down the stairs to pop into Zack's or to your yoga class at Maui Yoga Path. And you can even check on whether the lineup for happy hour has started yet at the 5 Palms and get yourself down there quick!

The view is spectacular! We have stayed on every floor of the Mana Kai, and while the view is a bit different from each level, it is always lovely. The sounds of the ocean at night and the birds in the morning are always a delight, and sitting on the lanai while having dinner (and maybe getting a birds' eye view of a wedding at the same time) is a classic Maui experience.

This condo is not as updated as some others, but it really does not matter. I am not there for granite counter tops or fancy furnishings. The condo is clean, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is sufficiently equipped to prepare the kind of simple meals I like to make on a tropical island, and the price is right. The managers are helpful and lovely to talk to. We are already booked for our next visit, and family and friends are ready to join us.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review Ricki ! And looking forward to seeing you again on your next visit this fall. Btw - we did replace the carpets, TV is now a beautiful Sony 4k Ultra HD, new lighting, and more and will continue to upgrade as we can between guest groups. Aloha !

Really enjoyed out Stay at the Mana Kai !

  • 5 of 5

We kind of wished we did our entire stay at your wonderful unit. It truly suited our family of five and we just couldn't get over the view and the sound of the waves while we slept. The atmosphere from the balcony added to the charm. We felt the kitchen had everything we needed and there were lots of towels. The kids had so much fun at the beach, the pool and all the wonderful other places we visited. We hope to come back one day again. Your condo is definitely a "must return!"

Thank you and greetings from Vancouver. !

amazing beachfront location and great value

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in Maui (and our 1 year-old took his first steps in the condo!). The unit is ideal for families with small children looking for a relaxing and low-key beach vacation. Check-in was easy, and the managers were very accommodating of our last minute request to check-in a few hours early. The condo was very clean. We cooked most of our meals and found the kitchen to be well-stocked (be sure to buy oil though). It was also fairly easy to mostly childproof the main living area. Beach towels, chairs, an umbrella, and beach toys were provided.

The view of the ocean from the lanai is fantastic. Our baby loved playing out there and standing at the railing to see all the people in the pool and on the beach. Mana Kai has direct access to the beach, unlike most condos in Kihei that require you to cross a road. Keawakapu Beach is also less crowded than the other beaches in Kihei, especially if you walk a little past the few condo complexes towards the empty seeming mansions that line most of the rest of the beach. The surf is usually calm, there's pretty good snorkeling around the lava point outside the Mana Kai (four turtles seem to hang out there), and I saw many kids exploring tide pools. Long walks along the beach to the fancy resorts in Wailea were fun. The pool is saltwater and extremely pleasant.

It was such a treat to be able to rent a beachfront condo at such a reasonable price. Most other similarly sized 2 br condos at the Mana Kai rent for twice as much, and my brother's family paid the same nightly rate as us for a 2 br condo across the street and up a hill, a long walk from the beach. The back bedroom is a little noisy during the day, but I found this to be true of all the B rooms at the Mana Kai on a past visit, except those on the far ends of the complex. The ac/fan drowned out any noise, and it was quiet by 10pm, except for the sounds of the ocean. The front area stayed cool with the screen open and fans running. My mom slept there, and she didn't have any problems with noise from the pool or restaurant.

We had a great time and can't wait to come back!
