|Minimum Stay||4 nights|
This is an 11 acre compound on 850'+ of pristine Puget Sound waterfront (including tidelands), featuring the only private dock on Camano island. Abundant sea and wildlife include some of the best crabbing in Puget Sound (in season only), clamming on our own beach, fishing off the dock or out front in Elger Bay (nearly a guaranteed catch of a pile perch or rock sole with a hook and a piece of meat...also pink salmon, cutthroat for the more avid anglers), daily bald eagle, deer, otter, and grey whale sightings (whales in late winter). Beachcomb for miles along a beautiful shoreline, enjoying views of Mt. Rainier, the Olympics, Hat and Whidbey Islands. Main house is 3 bedrooms, including a bunk room with two full and two twin beds, plus two additional twin mattresses that can be used for kids, and queen beds in the other rooms, plus a separate guest house with one queen bed, living room, and full bath (perfect for grandma and grandpa). There are also three bunk beds and three extra mattresses (total of nine twin beds) in the 'Bunkhouse' which is a separate finished garage space located south of the main house and on the bulkhead (no bathroom though but the kids love it...and the Xbox that goes with it).
Enjoy days exploring the five acres (look for the hidden rope swing!) and adjacent Camano Island state park, boating, kayaking and canoeing (with our two sea kayaks, Livingston Dingy, and canoe), swimming (brrr!), clamming, crabbing and fishing, then retire around the enormous seaside firepit to cook s'mores and tell ghost stories.
Off Season (October 15 through May 15) the main house only is available as we have a caretaker in the lower guest house for the winter. Also, the floating portion of the dock is not in the water during the winter months.
Summer high season (6/15 to Labor Day) we request a four night minimum stay.
I grew up spending my favorite weeks in the summers at my family friend's cabin a few miles north of the Honeycomb Hideout and always dreamed of having a place of my own. Our family, along with a close friend and his family, discovered this legacy property a few years ago and we are so fortunate to have been able to made this dream a reality.
Gordon purchased this cabin in 2009
Once you drive through the private gate into the neighborhood and drive down the hill to the waterfront, you'll know immediately why this is such a special spot. There are no immediate neighbors, and the privacy and seclusion is amazing. With four bedrooms spread between two houses plus another Bunkhouse, there is lots of room for two or three families and lots of kids. And the access to the beach, along with the dock, is something that is really rare and special in such close proximity to Seattle (only an hour's drive with no traffic and about 60 miles from town).
The size of the property, the sweeping lawn, and the dock and low bank, accessible waterfront are all rare qualities in an island property. We love it on Camano!
Our family was able to split up when needed and come together for much needed family time. The property is perfect for our large, multi age family.
I just can't believe how gorgeous the Compound is! My whole family stayed there and it was the best time we've ever had. We can hardly wait for next year!!! The crab and the Bon fire on the beach is unforgettable! Thank you so much .
Our family summer vacation was great. This home provided all we needed and more. The access to the beach was incredible and our children had no dull moments. I hope to stay again soon.
We recently stayed at Gordon's place on Camano Island with several old friends from college days. From my experience, every other review you see posted about this site on VRBO is true: The location has stunning views, a very large private waterfront, great opportunities to observe wildlife, and a secure entrance. The facilities are getting older, but are functional. Internet service is up and down, but workable for light duty. Gordon is very responsive to questions & needs: When recent rains made the one out-building unusable, he brought in a suitable temporary alternative in advance.
This property was truly majestic. The dock, boathouse, mainhouse and bunkroom were all more than what we anticipated. A large group of us (12) booked this beautiful property for my husbands 40th birthday. A good mix of small children, grandparents and adults all found plenty to do and more than suitable accomodations. Its hard to think of a favorite element of this trip as we crabbed, kayaked, boated, roasted smores, played cards games and truly enjoyed each others company. We have all decided to make this an annual event. The owners are easy to reach and directions for the house were perfect. I dont think there is a better rental property on the island for our needs. If you are looking for a memory making property to rent this is it!
Our oldest son lives in Seattle and could not get away from work over the holidays so we loaded up the other two boys that were home from college and headed to the beautiful PNW. This property was PERFECT for our needs, and it is in an spectacular setting. We all slept comfortably and cooked up a storm. By timing days hikes with the tide we were able to walk the beach to Camano State Park and points beyond.
I wish I had the knowledge and experience to paddle out to drop a few crab pots, but to be honest, with the weather and no experience I would be foolish to make that attempt. The lowest tides came in at late night so were not able to dig clams, but we did walk out and saw plenty of showings. I'm guessing clamming would be excellent during the daytime low tides. Oh well, the beach combing, hiking, daily visits from the bald eagles landing on the dock and the crackle and warmth of the fireplace were more than enough to create a fantastic stay. Highly recommended!
Only 20 minutes from i-5 across a bridge (no ferries!), but in a pristine, quiet island location, our Camano Island hideaway offers an amazing beach, hiking in the adjacent Camano Island state park and nearby Cama Beach State Park, plus 18 holes of very good, but casual (jeans okay!) golf at Camaloch golf course, and shopping and restaurants within a 10 minute drive.
