I used to spend every weekend on the mountains in my 20's. I meet my wife at Timberline!
Then we had kids. It became a chore to bring the family up.
So I bought this cabin. Making a base camp for the family and renting it to help pay for the mortgage.
We bring food, cloths, and are toiletries. Everything else is up there.
Tim Devlaeminck purchased this cabin in 2007
It is a great base for summer or winter activities. Geographically located in the middle of everything that Mt hood has to offer. The cabin has character and not stuffed in a housing development. USA today called it a 'scenic location in a cedar grove at the edge of Mount Hood National Forest'
Knotty pine and open beam construction. The place doesn't feel like 900 sq/ft.
We drove down to Portland from Seattle for an early weekend getaway and Tim really delivered on this property. The location is perfect - close enough to Portland to be there in 45 minutes but remote enough that you feel like you're actually in your own private sanctuary.
The cabin was everything we had hoped for - the bed was as comfortable as ours at home, the kitchen was well-stocked with essentials and every kitchen implement you would need, and the property was immaculate and looked like something out of an Oregon travel brochure. The hot tub was always hot, all jets firing at 100% and you can see the stars perfectly while soaking in it on the front deck.
My girlfriend is looking for another excuse to go for a weekend in Portland just so we can stay here again. I don't blame her :)
No complaints at all - the two local restaurants have a good selection of food if you don't want to cook your own but you could easily prepare large meals in the kitchen. We spent a good bit of time just exploring the area and following the river for a ways. It's idyllic and charming and everything you could want for a romantic getaway. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would.
We have been coming up to this area for the last 6 years. This by far has been the sweetest cabin we have stayed in. Close to Mt Hood, Sandy Zigzag, and Salmon Rivers, incredible waterfalls and great day hikes. We hope to get back here soon. Thank you Tim for sharing your cottage with us.
I spent the week in this awesome cabin. Everything about it was just perfect for me...it was comfortable, well-stocked, peaceful and so convenient to all of the hiking in the Mt. Hood National Forest and the exploration of Portland and of the Columbia River Gorge. Some of my favorite time was spent in the hot tub out on the deck, soaking in the calm after long days of hiking. My stay was truly made all that much better this past week because of how wonderful the cabin was. If I ever make my way back to the area, I would definitely stay there again. Thank you, Tim!
We stayed at the cabin for five nights in early June. It was great! Easy to find, but felt out of the way. You could hear the river from inside and from the back deck while you enjoyed being under the trees (or in the hot tub!). You do also hear some cars going down the road, but it wasn't bothersome. The notable thing about this property is that Tim really seems to have gone out of his way to have anything you could need--not just consumables like baggies and foil that often aren't provided, but extra things like a travel crib, toys, a baby gate for the stairs, stain remover, a water bowl if you bring your dog, and more. The place was very clean. If I had to nitpick something, I would say the towels provided had seen better days (but there are plenty of them!), and the upstairs loft did get pretty hot by the end of the day when it was 95 degrees. But overall, this is an excellent choice, and we hope to stay again!
Our family of 4 spent around 5 days in this beautiful house nestled in the woods. Quiet, private and relaxing, with a soothing hot tub. We barbecued every night on the back porch. The house was spacious and very clean with a well-equipped kitchen. The owner, Tim, is friendly and helpful. Very easy access to the highway and Mt Hood. One of the nicest properties we have rented. We would love to go back regularly if we lived closer.
This cabin is the perfect spot! My husband and I went there along with our fur child and WE ALL had such a fantastic time. The hot tub is the cherry on top, it was such a treat to soak in the hot tub after a long day of hiking and not to mention so peaceful. The hot tub is very private and faces the back yard which overlooks the fire pit and recedes back into vast forest! Plus there is a river right across the road, so it was wonderful to relax and listen to all the sounds of nature around us. All basic amenities are available for cooking, cleaning, bathing and plenty of fire wood!
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in the Mt. hood area. I'm sure will be back!
You can get a lot of info from Zigzag Ranger Station down the street.
