The kitchen has been fully equipped by pro chefs! We know what is needed to make a great meal at home and we supply it all to you starting with a very good sharp knife! Good quality cookware and a complete table setting for eight is backed up with a new flat top stove, blender, toaster, microwave. If we’re missing something let us know and we can provide it. Besides of all this you are in a super eating area. We’ll tell you how to find the hidden culinary gems of this stylish neighborhood from bistro to corner pub and let you know where the best shopping is for that perfect feast of Nova Scotia seafood should you want to cook at home.
Lots of amazing entertainment in Halifax but if you feel like staying in, there is the best video store on the east coast around the corner, a forty inch flat screen on the wall, and an ipod docking sound system. Bring your own movies on a memory stick, cd, tablet or lap top and just plug and play. High speed internet … of course for streaming video, audio and if you must …. Work. Oh yes there is a small workstation too equipped with a computer dedicated to the TV with wireless mouse and keyboard.
Transportation is a snap. You will be located just off one Halifax’s main streets, minutes by car to anywhere in the city and adjacent to several bus routes. It’s an easy shuttle, collective or cab ride from our international airport a half hour away. But let’s talk human powered transport. Here you are within an easy walk from all important destinations in the city center. Around the corner is the hip new Agricola street neighbourhood; across the street is the historic Halifax Commons with parks, fountains, playgrounds and in winter, the Halifax oval, a full sized Olympic skating rink. Ten minutes gets you to the busy Quinpool road shopping area. Fifteen minutes of pleasant walking and you are almost anywhere you need to be from busy Spring Garden Road, to Halifax Metro Center, City Hall and Province House, Citadel Hill and Maritime Museum, Historic Properties and Seaport Farmers Market. All major business destinations, corporate head offices, banks, conference centers and hotels are nearby. It is a short walk to all Halifax hospitals and universities.
Do you like to ride a bike? This is a bike friendly vacation home. As a sideline we have a complete fleet of high quality bikes and are happy to make one available to you on a weekly or daily rental. Or bring you own bike and enjoy pedaling around the city core or out onto the numerous trails that surround the city. We’ll help you with maps and advice on where to go.
If you arrive with your car, there is on street parking available right in front of your door. We are located around the corner from a car share kiosk and car rentals are nearby as required. As another sideline we have a fifteen passenger van and can arrange for group pickups at the airport and tours anywhere in Nova Scotia. Call to find out about custom trips for small groups such as an excursion to Peggy’s Cove and the South Shore, a day of biking by the seaside or a wine tour in the Annapolis Valley.
We are Jude and Peter Williams and we welcome you to our lovely Halifax home whether, touring, on business or just visiting. We are both veterans of the restaurant business among many other career pathways. We both have worked for many years in the hospitality industry, Jude as the chef and Peter operating a bicycle touring business has taken him far and wide from Quebec and every back road in Atlantic Canada, to Mexico and Europe. We were looking to spend more time at our home and saw an opportunity to buy this lovely property and make it into a vacation home rental. We live in the up and coming Agricola street area with its lively art life, burgeoning food scene and great neighbourhood feeling. Our home is just around the corner from your apartment on West Street and we would enjoy helping you out with all kinds of recommendations on how to get the most out of your visit to Halifax and Nova Scotia.

This property came to us at a time when we were looking to find another small apartment to go with the two we own in this neighbourhood. We were looking for a fixer upper but 5872 West Street had been completely rebuilt from basement to roof and we just said 'why not?' From there came the idea to try # 1 as a guest rental suite. It is an old building with good bones now restored to its former gracious lines with cedar shingle clad exterior already fading to silvery gray. Right location, right timing, right building, it all came together and we are very excited to be embarking on this project
Without taking the focus away from the apartment itself the outstanding benefit of this place is its location. But once inside you will have a perfect package to set up housekeeping and have all the comforts of home.
Je suis allée en visite à Halifax (Juin 2016) avec ma mère et mon frère et nous avons tous aimé cet appartement. Il est situé à environ 20 minutes à pieds du centre downtown. L'appartement est très propre et très confortable. Les propriétaires sont aussi très gentil et accueillant. La literie et vaisselle très propre et très belle cuisine. Les lits sont aussi très confortable. Pour de ce qui est du stationnement nous avons eu aucun problème pour en trouver sur la rue comme j'avais lu dans un commentaire. Si nous avons à y retourner je choisirais à nouveau cet emplacement. Halifax est une ville extraordinairement belle à visiter et pour ceux qui veulent n'oublier pas de visiter Piggies Coves Wow c'est très très beau et le restaurant sur place délicieux. We rented this place for 3 nights at the end of our vacation in Nova Scotia. This place is in a perfect location for sight seeing. The Commons - the common area with parks, fields, and local events is one block over, and was a great place for me to do my morning run and walks. The Citadel is on other side of The Commons area and also a wonderful place to visit. There is a lot of history in Halifax to see. We are from NJ (USA) and our home is right on the street - literally. This rental is adjacent to the sidewalk, so if you are not used to hearing street noises, then this may bother you. We are so used to it, that it did not bother us. I would also say if you are not used to hearing upstairs neighbors than think twice about this property. We were awakened a few times in the middle of the night with the upstairs people walking around, but went back to sleep quickly since we are used to hearing our neighbors at home in a very close-nit housing community. It is a great spot, though, to just walk right out the door and walk to the groceries, restaurant, etc... I will ditto what someone else said about the challenge of parking. I would say ask for more specific information on where to park and when to park there! There is a sign halfway down the block that states "no parking Fridays from 12am - ? (I think around 6am) do to street cleaning, but since we had parked in front of rental and that sign was not also posted there, we did not know that, and we got a ticket. The home owners were very very gracious and took care of that, as well as graciously came home on their day off with their granddaughter to help us find a place to park for the day. I had driven around for over an hour looking for a parking spot that would let me park for more than 1 or 2 hours, but was not able to find one. I can see that there would be strategic times when people come out and move their cars to other spots for the day, and I just missed that time slot! So, I would ask what is the strategy for parking! In front of the rental there is parking overnight. One hour during the day. Other than that inconvenience, we liked this rental. Excellent kitchen supplies and it was spotlessly clean! Halifax is a very "green" city and they value their recycling which was great. Also remember to bring one of the cloth bags that are in the closet to grocery store. We did not know they did not have plastic bags, but the cashier gave us a cloth bag for free to carry our groceries home in
This is a very comfortable well appointed condo with a great location. We enjoyed walking around the area with its restaurants, businesses and many green spaces. It was a wonderful condo that we would definitely stay at when we are in Halifax again. Also, many thanks to Peter for all of his help.
The apartment is super comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook some great meals. Great organic grocery store just around the corner, Local Source Market and a great wine bar, Lion and Bright. A great bike shop, Cyclesmith, is also just down the street. A really great home base for our stay. I highly recommend this location for people who like to walk around the city to see the sights. We walked to Pier 21, the Citadel, the waterfront, Fairview Cemetery to see the Titantic Gravesite and Hydrostone.
We were a family of 5 adults. The apartment is extremely well situated in walking distance to many major attractions. Kitchen is well equipped and the apartment was very clean. Parking on the street is challenging and you have to pay attention to the different overnight restrictions. Host was very accommodating.
Far exceeded our expectations. This was our first time staying in Halifax and we did find the perfect spot. We have 3 small kids and were able to spend numerous days at the Commons and used transit to get around when the kids had enough walking. So many options to get us down to the waterfront. We are already planning our next trip and ensuring we will include some time here again.
