|Minimum Stay||4 - 7 nights|
Located on Gifft Hill, 750 feet above sea level, Coconuts features a unique combination of panoramic ocean views, spectacular sunsets, extensive outdoor living and dining areas, and numerous high-end amenities. The ocean views are among the finest on St. John, and include up to twenty islands, stretching from French Cap in the south to Grass Cay in the north, and as far away as Vieques and Puerto Rico. Coconuts is known for its spectacular, year-round sunsets, and at night, the twinkling lights of St. Thomas beckon across the waters of Pillsbury Sound. The flat, hilltop location of Coconuts ensures complete privacy and gentle tropical breezes, as well as a flat driveway with ample room for several cars. The entrance is framed by two large coconut palms, and the grounds include a magnificent Flamboyant, gently sloping side and lower lawns, lush tropical landscaping, and mature fruit trees. The many restaurants and shops of Cruz Bay are only a ten minute drive away, all on newly paved major roads.
The pool is solar heated, and at night, the pool light slowly changes colors, with its diffuse hues illuminating the courtyard. The seven-person hot tub is mounted flush with the main deck, and offers panoramic ocean and sunset views. The addition of wide, gentle stairs down to the new lower sundeck provides unobstructed “infinity deck” ocean views from the entrance, pool, and deck chairs.
Coconuts single-level floor plan consists of four hip-roofed buildings centered around the solar heated pool and interior courtyard, and connected by decks, covered walkways, and patio gardens.
Coconuts provides the ultimate in Caribbean indoor/outdoor living. Its outdoor living areas include an interior garden courtyard, the main pool deck with its large, built-in spa, the gazebo with its dining table, couch, chairs, and outdoor sound system, the new billiard porch with its pool table, outdoor kitchen and sound system, and a large new lower sundeck with wrap-around bench seating. Unusual for St. John, Coconuts' grounds are flat and walkable, with large front and side lawns, gorgeous tropical landscaping, and mature fruit trees. An elegant and accurate brass sundial graces the ocean view lawn, and botanical plant labels identify many of the plantings.
Dining options are extensive, and include the great room table for six, the gazebo dining table for six, granite counter dining for six by the outdoor kitchen, and a table for four on the lower sun deck. Dine in the gazebo, at a table with some of the finest ocean and sunset views on St. John.
Coconuts is among only a few St. John villas that offer two kitchens; a fully enclosed main kitchen with a breakfast bar for entertaining the chef, and a complete outdoor kitchen facing the view in the new billiard porch. The outdoor kitchen includes a built-in 36 inch gas grill, Teppanyaki cook surface, dual side burners, hot water sink, fridge, illuminated bar, and granite counter dining for six.
The great room includes a high-definition 100 inch front projection system with a subwoofer, as well as a 42' flat screen TV. Use either to watch a movie from our extensive Blu-ray library, your favorite TV show or sporting event, or photos and videos taken during your visit to St. John. An HD-DVR allows you to record shows or games while you are at the beach, or out on the town.
Coconuts shares ownership with the adjacent villa on Gifft Hill, Plumeria vrbo 472847, and the two villas can be rented together, accommodating larger groups with up to sixteen guests. Lush tropical landscaping provides complete privacy between the two villas, which each have their own large, level, and fully walkable lot. For joint villa rentals, a gate between their lots is unlocked, allowing guests to walk freely between the grounds.
Play a game of pool or table tennis in the new billiard porch, cook and entertain in the beautiful outdoor granite kitchen, enjoy the star-filled skies from the hammock deck, or simply relax in the gazebo, pool, and spa. Whatever you prefer, Coconuts is a truly remarkable villa for your visit to the beautiful island of St. John!
We can accept reservations for stays of less than seven nights; see our note at the bottom of this description.

Coconuts is exceptionally well documented. Feel free to contact us and ask for a copy of 'Welcome to Coconuts', which has lots of detailed information about both Coconuts, and the island of St. John.
We will accept stays of less than seven nights. For these shorter stays, we charge a premium over the pro-rated daily rate of 10% for each day less than seven. For example, a five day stay would be the weekly rate * 5/7 * 1.20, where the 1.20 is the 20% premium for a stay two days less than a week. This is to cover fixed villa turnaround expenses such as housecleaning, laundering, and pool and spa maintenance. This less than seven night premium is waived for gap openings, where the villa is already rented contiguously before and after your stay. VRBO's rental charge calculator is not set up to process stays shorter than one week; contact us if you are interested in a shorter stay.
Kevin and Danielle McCarthy purchased Coconuts in 2010, and began extensive expansion, remodeling, and upgrades, which were completed in early 2012. Coconuts has since become one of the most popular rental villas on St. John. In 2013, we had an opportunity to purchase the adjacent villa on Gifft Hill, Plumeria vrbo 472847, which allows larger groups of up to sixteen guests to be accommodated. At both Coconuts and Plumeria, we are singularly focused on making the guest experience the finest it can possibly be.

We were in the market for a villa with incredible ocean views, sunsets, Caribbean indoor / outdoor living, a level floor plan with a flat driveway, quick and easy access to Cruz Bay, and complete privacy. We were delighted to find Coconuts in the summer of 2010, which fulfilled all of our expectations and more. With the renovations and expansion that we embarked upon, Coconuts has gotten even better. We invite you to join our many repeat guests in discovering this tropical gem.
As soon as you step through the doors into the interior courtyard, and see the magnificent ocean panorama stretching out before you, you will fall in love with this wonderful villa. Its benefits include:
- Incredible, panoramic ocean views
- Flat, very private hilltop location
- Magnificent, year-round sunsets
- Solar heated pool with LED color lighting
- Seven person spa with panoramic views
- Indoor / Outdoor Caribbean living
- Billiard porch with granite outdoor kitchen
Coconuts had a million dollar view, we had a great time celebrating my husbands 50th birthday. We would definitely go back!
My family and I recently stayed at Coconuts and it was absolutely perfect. The view is so spectacular pictures do not do it justice at all. We have stayed on many Carribbean islands, but this view out did them all. The pool was great and the temperature for hot August nights wes perfect. We cooked and ate every breakfast and many dinners in the outdoor kitchen. The beds were comfortable and the airconditioning worked great. Water pressure was low but that was to be expected. All in all a great experience. We hope to return soon, but, however I just checked the dates we were interested in and they are already booked! All in all a great place and I highly recommend it!
We were a family of 7: grandparents, parents and 3 kids (7, 11 and 13). For the kids, it was a week full of firsts from the plane ride to staying on an island to a day long boat trip. Owners Kevin and Danielle were terrific. We had a couple of little issues that were addressed the next day and everything worked as expected. The photos are accurate. The villas has a very unique layout. We were not aware that the "indoor" kitchen was a separate building at Coconuts and had no AC. It had everything you needed to prepare meals. Cooking in the outdoor kitchen worked perfectly. I have to mention that the coffee provided was excellent. We stopped at the Starfish Market on our way to the villa the day we arrived. It was very well stocked. The St John Market had better prices and was close to one of the only 2 gas stations on the island. There were so many amenities at the villa that the kids were kept busy even on a rainy day. The pool/ping pong table was hours of fun. When bored with that, the pool and hot tub. Plenty of pool toys. And the big screen system where we watched movies nights - wow. There is a good selection of movies for adults and older kids. The wi-fi was fine for the umpteen devices we had. The views from the villa decks are incredible. We had coffee in the gazebo while watching hummingbirds and bananaquits at the feeders every morning. Our grandson found chasing the poor little geckos tons of fun. Chickens and deer also visited the back yard. Sleeping arrangements because of the kids ages were interesting. All 3 bedrooms are in different buildings which provides privacy for adult couples, but with small children this villa would be difficult. Town was just 15 minutes away and the trip down the "mountain" was always interesting. Goats, donkeys, cows and chickens were always on the road. The kids found everything new and interesting . We ate lunch out every day: Ocean Grille, Tap Room and Sun Dog all in Mongoose Junction were favorites. We snorkeled from the beaches at Trunk, Maho, Hawksnest, Cinnamon and Honeymoon Bays and all had something to see. No one could pick a favorite. We used the villa's beach chairs, towels and snorkeling equipment. We took a day-long private boat charter to the BVIs for more snorkeling and lunch at the Willie T. Jump off the top while waiting for your food. All in all, once we figured out how to get down to town and to the beaches, we were just fine. We had a wonderful 3 generation vacation!
Our family (2 boys ages 12 and 14) have rented VRBO properties for years. We enjoy the flexibility and amenities that home rentals offer over resorts or hotels. Coconuts was no exception and in fact sets a new standard for us. The view from the deck is priceless at any hour of the day, from morning coffee to the twinkling lights of Cruz Bay below and St Thomas across the water. With three bedrooms, we all enjoyed privacy for a restful vacation. We made use of unique features like cooling off in the swimming pool, relaxing in the hot tub, grilling fresh fish in the outdoor kitchen, and playing billiards. Welcoming touches from our hosts were the greeter who met us at the ferry and helped us get settled in, coffee ready to go in the kitchen, and the bottle of wine. A couple of winding miles out of Cruz Bay, Coconuts was a great location for everything St John has to offer - the beautiful beaches, hiking trails, catching a cruise for island exploration and snorkeling, and Cruz Bay for great restaurants. We would return to Coconuts and St John in a hear beat. Thank you Kevin and Danielle for your part in making our vacation exceptional!
We had a wonderful time at Coconuts. It was our first visit to St. John and we were out exploring the island daily but made sure we were back on time to enjoy the villa. We loved it so much we ended up just staying in for a day before we left. My boys were never bored in Coconuts, there was so much for them to do that I could just appreciate the spectacular view with a book and relax. We had all kinds of fun animals visit us too: hummingbirds, sugarquits, elk, cats, even two iguanas. The owners are a pleasure to work with, and Coconuts is a little piece of paradise. One of the best vacation villas we have stayed at. Don't hesitate to book it.
My family of 5 with three kids ages 11, 13 and 15 just returned from our first vacation to St. John staying at Coconuts. Words cannot express the perfection of this location, the entire villa property and all of the extras like the pool, pool table, and telescope. Every morning we would sit on the deck and drink coffee while watching hummingbirds and bananaquits. We also had fun watching the iguanas and geckos and deer that would wander on the property.
The views are beyond anything that we could have wanted to wake up to! We watched St. Thomas light up every night and spent most of our time outside enjoying the gazebo. The villa has everything and more that we could have needed for our stay. The furniture and beds are all so comfortable, we so enjoyed just being at the villa after spending mornings at the beaches. The kitchen had everything that we needed and we used the grill a few nights.
We were able to be together as a family so easily here and there was something for everyone. Kevin and Danielle are always available if needed and so accommodating, thank you both! Our first visit was a success mostly due to our wonderful villa. I don't know how any other villa could be better. We made so many special memories and we hope to return to Coconuts someday!
About St. John:
Travelers have once again voted St. John their #1 Caribbean destination in 2013, and for good reason. Thanks to the foresight of the philanthropist and naturalist Laurence Rockefeller, two-thirds of St. John has been and will in perpetuity be preserved in its original state, as part of the U. S. Virgin Islands National Park. Its 35 picture-perfect white sand beaches are each unique, with many of these lying within the boundaries of the National Park. As a result, when you turn away from the Caribbean Sea and look inland, you witness unspoiled virgin green hillsides, looking much as they did back in 1493, when Christopher Columbus discovered and named these islands. St. John's hilly terrain, and the literally hundreds of islands and cays that surround it, provide unmatched vistas and photographic opportunities from all around the island. The V.I. National Park maintains dozens of excellent hiking trails, and well preserved ruins from the era of the sugar mills allow you to step back in time to that earlier period. Despite large tracts of undeveloped natural beauty, St. John also offers extensive fine dining options, and the seaside village of Cruz Bay has many interesting shops to peruse.
If this will be your first visit to St. John, you are in for a treat!
We prefer either a VRBO/HomeAway eCheck or a check by mail, but also accept credit cards via VRBO/HomeAway.
