Area: La Garde Freinet is of the Var's best preserved medieval villages (pop. 1.700) about 20km north of Saint Tropez has attracted many refugees such as writers and artists looking to escape the tourist hordes on the coast. Its architecture is as well preserved as many of the villages in the Haut Var and Vaucluse. The old part of the village clusters around the 16th century Saint Clément church with its 18th century bell tower. Here most of the houses are built with flat field stones without the use of mortar - some of them have weathered the times for more than 700 years. The ruins of Fort Freinet tower above the village. As the security situation improved villagers moved down the hill to what is today the oldest part of La Garde Freinet. By the late 15th century Fort Freinet was completely in ruins. If you walk up there you realize how impregnable it was, only one path leads to the top of the hill.

About Leah Paterson
I grew up in New York and my husband grew up in the British countryside. We are like the 1960's American situation comedy about a couple (Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor) who move from NYC to a rural country farm. Eva remains a city girl (me) and Eddie simply loves the countryside! We like renting this house to people we like and since we are moving back to a city (I won!) and my husband's business keeps him away from the house all the time, it is empty most of the time! We are looking for people who really appreciate beauty and living in the countryside in France. The house is perfect for nature lovers and those who simply want to 'get away from it all'!
Why Leah Paterson chose La Garde-Freinet
Explained above :)
What makes this Villa unique
My husband was shown this place by a local real estate broker in the village of La Garde Freinet here in France. It was basically a small ancient structure originally built in the 15th Century - 'maisons en pierre' that was being used by the local wild boar hunters as a wild pied-a-terre to rest in between their excursions. Robert was shown the property sitting on 22 acres as he wanted a secluded place with a special feel to it. He saw the place and this was it (I would have literally run for the hills - no tall buildings!! :)! He bought it, added a wing onto it, built a tennis court, swimming pool and there you have it! It is his oasis and sanctuary. He travels so much on business that he rarely has time to enjoy it, but some day maybe he will. We want others to enjoy it and the house feels better when there have been lots of people around! Hope you love it as much as we do!
