About Douglas

Hello, my name is Doug. I really enjoy being the host. Silver Hill is a very unique property in that it has all the grandeur of a classy 1908 bungalow, high ceilings, wood floors, adorable yard, plus the very high end amenities. The best part is when the guests enter for the first time and go 'WOW!'. Everybody raves about their stay here.

Douglas purchased this house in 2011

Why Douglas chose Albuquerque

It is beautiful inside and out and it is close to everything.

What makes this house unique

The kitchen is a joy to cook and entertain from. The dining room opens up to a darling sun room that opens onto the back courtyard with grass and a large shade tree for great outdoor entertaining.

Feels like home.

  • 5 of 5

(This review is written by a member of my family for which I had arranged this rental.)

We recently stayed at this home for 5 nights. It was a great place to stay, we felt like we were in our own home.

The house is large, especially considering we there were 7 of us staying in it. We never felt cramped and enjoyed a couple of meals with additional family joining us. The layout of the house is very open, but with the opportunity to have privacy in the 3 bedrooms if desired. It was very conducive to family interaction, but still allowed for individual time when that was necessary. The sleeping arrangements were adequate, even for our large family. We never felt like we were shoehorned into a tiny place.

One of the things that made the house feel so much like home was all of the amenities provided. Our favorite was the large living room and the back yard. Family game time in the living room with plenty of seating and a private yard perfect for a toddler to play and family to enjoy the out of doors together. It is shaded by large trees on all sides, providing just the right combination of sunshine and ability to escape the heat. A barbecue grill was available for our use and patio dining set. If you feel more inclined to cook and eat inside, you are supplied with equally accommodating resources. There is a surprisingly large stock of kitchen items and gadgets.

The location is perfect for just about any reason you might be in Albuquerque. The house is located in a quiet residential neighborhood that is well kept and inviting. The neighbors are friendly, and there didn’t appear to be a problem with crime. I don’t think you could pick a better spot in the city for someone who wants to see and do everything Albuquerque has available.

The experience was made even better due to the personality of the owner. Doug was a fantastic host. He was very pleasant and easy to work with, and quick to attend to any concerns that we had. He also stayed out of our way and gave us privacy.

Owner's Response: Thank you for noticing the work and thought we put into making our vacation rental a complete home for the traveler visiting The Land of Enchantment! Your review of the outdoor amenities showed me a side of the home that I wouldn't have thought of. Your review hit so many positive points about Silver Hill Bungalow that I will make it a Feature Review. It's fun to meet so many interesting people. Thank you for your review and stay. Doug (owner)

Sunny, convenient, and wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We love this sweet, uncluttered house. Beautifully renovated, with absolutely everything you need for a pleasant stay. Accommodates 6 comfortably.

Close to UNM, the hospitals, Nob Hill, and the quirky Central Ave. shops and eateries. We've enjoyed staying here each time.

Great house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

The house was well outfitted with most everything we needed. We were two couples in town for the weekend for friends' wedding and we thoroughly enjoyed having this space to gather, cook, and relax. I'd definitely stay again if I came back to town.

The house has plenty of towels, linens, basic toiletries, and kitchen ware. There were little things I'd add if the place were mine: another towel rack and a mirror to see the back of your head in the master bath and a full length mirror somewhere in the house. Essentials I missed for getting ready to attend the wedding, but not so important for the rest of the days we were there. Otherwise I felt like this house had everything we needed and we had a really great time.

Great Location, lovely property

  • 5 of 5

This home fit our group of 6 perfectly. The table is set with cloth napkins and placemats. Every detail is thought out. The bed in the master bedroom was so comfortable and we loved having the fan above the bed.

The kitchen was spacious, the bbq was easy to use. The home was close to everything in Albuquerque, airport and nearby sites.

If you love the outdoors there are so many great day trips from Albuquerque. El Morro and El Mapais National Monuments are well worth the drive, 1.5 hours East on 40. If you have the time be sure to hike at Tent Rocks, 40 minutes North on the 25 freeway. Also well worth the adventure to drive to Bandalier National Monument.

In town and only a few minutes away is Casa Rondena a beautiful winery with great wine selection. Family run and very friendly. Must see if you have the time. We walked the trails at Petroglyph National Monument and then made our way to the winery.

Again this location is wonderful and Douglas made it very easy to get checked in!

We love this house!

  • 5 of 5

My wife is from Albuquerque, but we live in Salt Lake City. We visit Albuquerque from time to time and have stayed at several different places. The Silver Hill Bungalow is now certainly our favorite place to stay. We love this house. This was our second time staying here. We spent two weeks and loved every minute of us. We're very fond of the neighborhood. The residential area is quiet, and the house is very secure. The enclosed backyard is lovely, and the front yard is beautifully landscaped with plants and flowers. Doug is a great host. He promptly answered all our questions before and during our stay. The house is spacious, with three bedrooms, a large well-equipped kitchen, a nice breakfast room, big dining room, and huge living room (with two huge couches). The hardwood floors are lovely. There's good wi-fi capability and a large TV set with cable (we hooked our laptop to the tv and had access to Netflix and other sites). As I said, we're fond of the neighborhood: it's very close to UNM, the Harvard-Yale restaurants, Nob Hill/Route 66, downtown Albuquerque, and Old Town. Just a perfect location. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Sandia Peak in Albuquerque at 7,000 ft
Car: necessary

Nob Hill is truly one of the most desirable locations in Albuquerque. It has a lively night life and a very eclectic, diverse population.

Our home is located on a quiet street near a major hospital, airport and other public transportation including a commuter train to Santa Fe.

Walk to a wide variety of restaurants, shops and galleries.

Day trips from Albuquerque are my favorite. Santa Fe, Taos, White Sands, Carlsbad caverns, many Native American reservations, Pueblos and ruins, all within a one to three hour drive. We also have the worlds longest tram that takes you from the desert floor to the top of the Sandia Mountains where you get a fantastic view of the city and watch the sunset from a beautiful restaurant at the top.
