From the top of the (long) shady eucalyptus lined drive, the panoramic views over the Mediterranean Sea prepare you for the nature induced solace you can expect at this historic old winery with authentic features from the 18th century. Nestled into the valley on some 20 acres of private land within a protected area of the Montes de Malaga natural park, you’ll forget that you are within 30 minutes of the beaches and the cosmopolitan city of Malaga. Upon entering the grand courtyard at the heart of the cortijo you may even forget what century it is, imagining the horses and donkeys that were housed here during the bygone days of winemaking on the estate.
Your hosts, however, will quickly bring you back to present with a warm welcome. Every visit to this family run eco farm includes complimentary concierge service to help you get the most from your holiday, and the culinary services provided by Chef David Palacios of the on-site host family are truly first rate. Available as personal guides for local explorations and adventures, to offer “insider” recommendations, or simply leave you to your own designs in peace, your hosts aim to cater each visit to each guest.
Families also will appreciate the private pool and generous indoor and outdoor living spaces. The spacious Andalusian courtyard (which can be closed off for child supervision) is a grand space for relaxing or entertaining and features traditional architectural elements highlighting the characteristic rustic charm evident throughout the property. Beyond the antique wooden courtyard gates lie an expanse of nature and open spaces ripe for exploration.
Cortijo Juan Salvador offers two separate lodgings to guests, La Higuera and El Almendro; both with stylish contemporary décor and 3 double bedrooms, private outdoor terraces, fully equipped kitchens and open plan dining-living rooms. Both also feature private entrances, and shared access to the cosy plunge pool with sun lounge. With additional opportunities for group dining, catering, massages or excursions you can be as private and solitary or as social as you like.

We are a family run organic farm located in a hidden valley of the Montes de Malaga with all of the peace and tranquillity of deep nature, yet only 25 minutes from the Mediterranean and 30 minutes from the cosmopolitan city of Malaga. Parents Pedro and Riny moved from Pedro’s native Andalucia to Riny’s home town of Maastricht, Netherlands with their son David and his Spanish wife Rosa to start this project. David works as a successful private gourmet chef off site, as well as for guests at Cortijo Juan Salvador. He uses the organic fruit and vegetables they grow themselves in the dishes he serves, and loves to garnish with edible flowers.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
As a family outfit we relish in getting to know our guests and offer concierge service as standard, with daily touches such as fresh flowers and lit candles. We are proud to offer such personalised attention and superior culinary services. With our intimate local knowledge we can ensure a pleasant and fulfilling exploration of the ‘real Spain,’ though those preferring to stay close can enjoy miles of hiking trails around the property or simply relax by the pool. The final result of the renovations is a flexible structure allowing private lodging for 8 (1 house), or combined (2 houses) for groups of up to fourteen. We have maintained the rustic character of the old cortijo, and the traditional Andalusian courtyard is as cosy and inviting as the surrounding gardens. As an organic farm, and given David’s passion for food and cooking, serving local, home-grown organic produce is one of our specialities and sources of pride. We have many fruit trees and seasonal fruit and vegetables from the garden, which David uses in cooking for guests if they wish, or or they may also wander through the many natural acres of the property and select fruit, citrus and veg for themselves. We carefully conserve our water, sourced from a well and stored in a reservoir tank, though the supply is sufficient for liberal use by guests. Additionally, kitchen waste is composted, while paper and cardboard, glass and plastic are recycled to minimize landfill.

Beautiful traditional Spanish house , spacious and comfortable in a tranquil setting.
We stayed during late March and the valley was very green and beautiful. It is worth the drive to stay in such a glorious location and in such an amazing building with various terraces and patios. The pools and pool areas are gorgeous although it was too cold for us to have a dip. The kitchen was well equipped and we had everything we needed. Rosa and the family were very welcoming and accommadating and David cooked us a delicious meal. I would love to return again .
We spent fantastic holidays in the beautiful 'La higuera' house.
You could find the good taste of the owners not only in our appartement, also in the whole area. During our holidays we felt like a part of the family.
We enjoyed Rinys and Pedros tips for day trips and the good food of the fantastic chef David and Rosas super service.
We really felt welcome and we miss the family and the wonderful place.

Amazing, Relaxing Location For Family Vacation
This place was beautiful, relaxing, and had everything we needed for a week long stay in Southern Spain! We went with our 18 month old son and Rosa was perfectly accommodating and even had toys, a high chair, and a bed for our little one! The outside balcony was ideal for letting our son run around while we drank coffee and enjoyed the warm sun. We enjoyed one catered special meal for New Year's Eve and it was spectacular and served with cheer and humor. The location was perfect for day trips to Nerja, el Torcal, Malaga, and even Granada. We enjoyed many days of beautiful weather and hiking around the villa and hope we can go back someday! Thanks for the perfect winter holiday!

Wunderschöne Urlaubstage mit der Familie
Ich war 5 Tage mit meiner Familie in diesem wunderbaren Landhaus.
Die Gastfamilie, Rosa und David, sind sehr sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Sie haben jeden Tag vielen Empfehlungen gegeben, was wir unternehmen könnten und David hat uns manchmal eben begleiten.
Wir haben jeden Tag Abendessen dort gegessen und die spanische Küche von David ist von 5 Sternen. Wir haben seit langem nicht so gut gegessen. Die Qualität der Präsentation und des Geschmacks der Gerichte war sehr gut.
Wir können diesen Ort sehr empfehlen: Gast- und Umweltfreundlich!

Sehr freundliche, liebenswerte und stets hilfsbereite Gastgeber. Wir haben in den sechs Tagen mehrfach das Abendessen dort eingenommen, was köstlich, abwechslungsreich und sehr angenehm war. Weinempfehlungen waren ebenfalls sehr gut - hat den Vorteil, dass man zum Essen auch trinken kann. Sollte der Fahrer bei auswärts eingenommen Essen keinesfalls tun, da die Straßen kurvig, schmal und zum Schluss nicht befestigt sind .
Insgesamt ein sehr romantischer Platz, an dem man viel schlafen, lesen und bereden kann. Ausflüge in umliegende Städte sind mindestens 50 Auto-
Minuten entfernt . Sevilla und Granada sind Tagesausflüge.
Insgesamt sehr empfehlenswert.

The villa is situated 30 minutes from the cosmopolitan city centre of Malaga and the nearest beach at El Palo or Rincon de la Victoria is even closer. The cortijo sits within the Montes de Malaga natural park and is connects to extensive protected reserves. There are several very nice cities (Ronda, Cordoba, Sevilla, Granada, Nerja, Antequera etc.) and typical white villages (Colmenar, Totalan, Olias, Comares etc.) which you can easily visit. We personally handled the renovations, with Pedro and David doing much of the work themselves for an even more personal impact on the finished product. All materials are traditional in nature and sourced locally, while any builders lending assistance were also local. Golf: There are numerous golf courses on the nearby coast and we are happy to help facilitate golf outings for you. Ski: Sierra Nevada ski resort near Granada
