Casa Amarilla is located only 14 kilometers north of Mahahual (Costa Maya) on a large, private and beautifully maintained property. It is a true beach house literally just steps from the Caribbean Sea. This vacationer's dream offers 20 feet of a continuous sliding glass opening onto the huge screened-in veranda overlooking the ocean. An open concept design, it offers tropical views and constant sea breezes.

This location provides the peace and tranquility of being secluded while being only 20 minutes from shopping and restaurants in town. There are two private bedrooms, one with 2 queen beds and the other with a queen and a single bed. There are also 2 fold-down futons in the main gathering room and another in a semi-private private nook vestibule. Two full baths make this villa easily workable for two families. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you will need to prepare your own meals, and there is also a gas grill available. The large great room offers an inspiring view of the Caribbean Sea. The ocean side of the villa is a covered and screened patio area that opens into the great room via an entire wall of sliding glass doors. A hammock awaits you for your afternoon siesta in the cool ocean breeze.

We also have wireless internet as well as XM/Sirius Radio. The villa offers a TV with a limited DVD library.

This is an eco-friendly home that uses solar panels as the primary electrical source. All areas have ceiling fans that, combined with the ever-present sea breezes, make for what most consider a nearly perfect tropical environment. For those who insist on A/C, this property does have a back-up diesel generator that can run A/C at an extra cost. Smoking is not allowed in the house.

Casa Amarilla is maintained by a full time, on-site staff. They speak English, have lived in the area for nine years, and can help you with information about tourist activities available in the area, local restaurants, shopping, etc. Fresh fish and lobster (in season) is available from the local fishermen if you'd like, something else our staff offers as a service to you.

About Hugh and Deb Blackburn

Jerry's dream had always been to have a place on the sea. Born and raised on a lake in northern Wisconsin and an avid diver, spear fisherman, fly fisherman and all things 'water', this was the perfect spot. You can only imagine his delight when he happened on a property that had a perfect beach leading on to a perfect reef on the sea side, and a lake with world class fly fishing out the back.

A design/builder of recreational homes by profession, Jerry set about creating the ultimate beach house. Nothing lives better and brings the sea and water into the living environment like this house.

Why Hugh and Deb Blackburn chose Mexico

Jerry and Lynn have 5 children and 5 grandchildren. They were delighted to find a spot that could offer the ultimate fishing and diving adventure, but still be a safe, beautiful and convenient swimming spot even for children and beginning snorkelers. Its convenient proximity to town while being a large and private parcel was even more of a draw.

What makes this villa unique

If you want to be down here for the water and the beach, there's simply nothing that compares to this place. The view from the great room makes you feel as if you are on a boat.

Best vacation EVER!!!

All communication between the owners and ourselves prior to our arrival was prompt and made our arrival easy and smooth. Perfect situation for two couples. Two beds - two baths and lots of privacy. The caretakers, Debbie and Hugh went above and beyond to make our stay the best! Not only did they find us two sisters to come and provide massages for a very reasonable price, we came home one day to a fresh feast of lobster! They also found us fresh fish and prawns and were very knowledgeable about the area. We had lots of adventures, great snorkelling and swimming. We would definitely come back!

One of our Favorites

We have stayed here four times now and always look forward to coming back. The house is situated amazingly close to the ocean which we love. Best of all for me is the large screened patio which overlooks the beach and is attached to the kitchen and living room. The large glass doors open so that it joins the house. We eat most of our meals there in the patio, although you can choose to eat at the bar in the kitchen, too.

The fully equipped kitchen has all the conveniences including an icemaker refrigerator and large gas stove. The caretakers speak English and are so helpful to advise or offer extra suggestions for places to visit in the area. Wi-fi access is excellent. Besides the two bedrooms there is an alcove near the entry where our two grandchildren slept on a futon if you need even more sleeping room.

As electrical lines have not yet arrived to the area, and water is collected in cisterns, you can still get the "feel" of rural Mexico. You are kept supplied with bottled water, but the self contained electrical battery system cannot support a microwave. The large gas oven works fine for us instead.

You can walk the beach for kilometers and rarely meet anyone. This isn't Cancún or Playa del Carmen. That's another reason why we like it so much. There are tide pools to the south to explore small marine life, some rocky beaches and lots of sand in others. You can take your choice as 20 meters of beach above the water line by Mexican law, is public.

We came by bus once to Mahahual and then taxi. Most of the time we have a rental car and drive the dirt/sand access road slowly and enjoy seeing the various kinds of Mexican beach dwellings and occasional large homes. We feel safe in this community and love being here.

Ein sehr schönes Haus abseits des Tourismus

Das Haus bietet alles, was man braucht. Die Terrasse mit Moskitonetzen ist sehr schön und groß, sodass man auch am Abend im Freien sitzen kann. Die Ausstattung der Küche und der Bäder ist top! Die Verwalter Hugh und Debora sind sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend! Das Wlan funktionierte trotz aller Bemühungen jedoch nicht Handynetze gibt es ebenfalls nicht!).

Leider war zu der Zeit, als wir da waren, viel Seegras im Meer und am Strand und da dieser eben nicht in Mahahual, sondern weit außerhalb liegt, wird er auch nicht so sehr gereinigt wie am Malecon von Mahahual. Auch sollte man sich bewusst sein, dass die Villa sehr abseits liegt ohne viel Nachbarschaft und an einer Piste. Man braucht mit sem Auto ca. 15 Minuten bis Mahahual.

Uns hat's gut gefallen. Das Haus ist super, einzig der doch sehr einsame Standort hat uns etwas gestört.

The beach at Casa Amarilla is beautiful white sand and wonderful for swimming. A reef about 250 meters off short provides protection from the ocean currents as well as a habitat for an exciting snorkeling experience. For the fly fishing enthusiast, there is nearby access to a fresh water lagoon (you can see this in our pictures) behind the property. This villa has two sea kayaks and boogie boards available for your use. Casa Amarilla also has a beach volleyball court for your enjoyment.

Once you arrive on site, you will be provided with information such as local restaurants, local fishing excursions, archaeological sites, and other tourist attractions in the area.
