The Goat Cottage and The Captain's Quarters
Mark and I both grew up in Rye, NY. Two years ago our boys gave us goats and as they say" the rest is history". I am a life time dancer. Mark is a consultant for east coast boatyard and wind energy contracts. I love being a hostess, meeting new people and sharing the goat trail. Welcome!

Tiverton/Newport/Little Compton RI vacation
Barbara is a very welcoming and lovely host. The Captains Quarters is a nice size apartment with new beds, spacious living room and nicely equipped kitchen. It’s centrally located for easy days trips to Newport, Bristol, and Little Compton. No beach access but plenty of nearby beaches. If the beach is not your thing the outdoor pool is heavenly after a hot day taking in the sights in Newport. And entertaining goats, chickens and River, the sweetest dog. Truly enjoyed our stay at the Captain’s Quarters!!!
Hi Beverly - It was really nice to meet you , your daughter and your sweet dog ! Mother - daughter time is very special and it was nice to see you so close having a peaceful , happy get away at The Captains Quarters on the left bank of somewhere else .
If your daughter is interested in taking a belly dance class let me know and I can find one in Boston .Send me a text . It might be really fun for her and her friends to go together ! You could join too . It’s a community dance for everyone !
Thank-you for your wonderful , creative note !

A Magical Experience
How else can you describe the Captain's Quarters? We booked our stay for two reasons; it was close to Newport and the Newport Folk Festival and we wanted a casual, comfortable out-of-the-way place to relax and enjoy each other's company when not at the show. Every year, my friends and I go to NFF and we've been looking for the perfect place to discuss/replay the performances seen during the day and to revel in the each other's company. We've tried everything from camping, to B&Bs in Newport, to grand hotels but have never been able to find a place with just the right energy and artistic atmosphere... until this year. What a find! The pool was refreshing and glorious overlooking the water and the sunset. The goats were amazing. The chickens were hilarious and we loved having fresh eggs for breakfast. The beds were so comfortable! And the Captain's Quarters and all the special touches ... glorious!
If you're looking for a place to unwind and peel the layers of stress off that normally surround you, you are in for a real treat!
Hi - It was lots of fun to meet all of you , to show you all around and to have you stay at The Captains Quarters “ on the left bank of somewhere else “ . I’m so glad that you got here early before the intense festival schedule began and were able to visit with each other in between the long fest days . Thankyou for your sweet note with the guitar playing goat! I love it . It’s going on the guests art gallery wall . I’ll send you a picture when it’s up ! Happiest summer to all of you !
Lovely place and Barbara was most attentive.
It was really nice to meet Elanour's sister after all these years connected to many people from earlier rhodey days. Congratulations to Elanour and your whole family on a happy wedding!!! I have Andre's clothes here waiting for him or I can drop them off at Elanour's .Thankyou for staying in our corner. All the very best to you from Barb and Mark
The Johnston family stay July 2, 3
We had a wonderful time, the Captains Quarters was very special and Barbara's first-rate hospitality simply the best.
Timing for us to use the pool was ideal, with the heat wave in Tiverton kicking into high gear.
The goat trail tour was probably the highlight of our stay.
Thank you again, Barbara, we hope to be back someday. Say hi to Jeb and the other goats, and of course, River too.
Hi Stephen - It was lovely to meet you all along your travel route. I’m so glad you found our goat corner here . All the best to you - Happy travels ! Very sincerely Barb
Great place to stay
The place is very comfortable, Barbara is considerate and responsive and the goats are great entertainers. We would definitely recommend the captains quarters to friends

Unique charm and spaciousness in bucolic setting
The Captain's Quarters is a lovely place to stay. Barbara has used her unique sense of taste to create an artsy, welcoming accommodation. The rooms are spacious, the furniture and appointments nice, and the place is very clean. Lots of windows for sun. Barbara is a consummate host, who will tell you everything you need to know about the area...and bring bread to feed the goats in the pen out back! That's a lot of fun.
It was very nice to meet you all - our first guests from New Jersey and Turkey near Istanbul. I love Turkey and Istanbul ! I'm happy you enjoyed your stay here while you visited many of the wonderful surrounding hot spots. I am sorry we missed saying goodbye. I thought for sure I would see you walking with River on Nanaquaket . I hope you loved your fresh eggs from here and the nearby farm stand All the best till next time, Barbara
The Captains Quarters is a 2 second walk from The Goat Cottage. Both rentals are separate from each other and from us but if a family or group of friends came together its the perfect place for a lot of fun and enough space for everyone to connect and to also have their own space. The Captains Quarters is a two floor apt with a small porch entrance into the kitchen where guests can sit in the sun to have their morning coffee. The down stairs large bedroom living room with TV, work table has a pull out couch for one adult or a couple of kids. Upstairs is a cozy queen and the bath/ shower. There is long list of favorite spots near by to visit in Tiverton, Little Compton, Newport, Providence and Bristol .A few highlights are The Black Goose Cafe - take out too, Red Dory, The Boat House, Little Bear, Coastal Roasters ( best coffee), The Rock Shop, Sakonnet Vineyard, Fog Land beach, Helger's ice cream, Evelyn's Seafood, Newport everything, Water Fire in Providence. You can walk to fish on Nanaquaket Bridge or drive to fish on Sakonnet Point.
