Beautiful cabin with lots of room
This was a beautiful cabin with plenty of room. The cabin had a great view and good hiking. We enjoyed the fire pit and roasting marshmallows. We like being away from town and this place did not disappoint. The driveway was a little steep (as we come to expect from the mountains!) but we did not have any issues (in an SUV and pick-up without 4 wheel drive). Would definitely recommended this cabin for family gatherings or friends wanting to get away!
June 2019 family get-together
Great place for a family get-together. It handled our crowd of kids and their kids (and their kid) just fine. After a heavy snow winter every thing was green and the wildflowers were in bloom. Deer in the field above the house, hummers all day long out front. The river was raging with runoff from record snows so we didn't get into it for swimming or fishing, but there are state fishing ponds stocked with trout a few miles south.
We had planned a number of activities that we never got to do. The property is quiet and we enjoyed just visiting, playing games, and sight-seeing. We travelled up the nearby forest road - Taylor Creek Rd - on 4 and two wheeled OHVs. Saw bear, marmots, and wildflowers but had to turn around at the 10,000 foot level due to snow. Later in the season the route takes you by a 12,000 ft. peak, which looks like it would be fun to climb.
The folks in the area are very friendly and helpful.
One week wasn't long enough. Plan on two weeks and I don't think you will regret it.
Great family-friendly property in a beautiful setting
We had a great time in this huge home near Dolores. Great setup for multiple families with bedrooms for adults and plenty of beds for kids. The kitchen and island are huge, with large tables for games and meals with views of the valley. We played outdoor games on the large patio in back (very flat - a plus), walked down to the swimming hole, and did day excursions to McPhee for boating/fishing and Mesa Verde to see the cliff dwellings (a must do). We drove up the valley on our departure to Telluride, very beautiful drive. We grilled all of our meals - great setup. This was a perfect fit for four families with kids 8-15. As long as you are prepared for drives to most destinations of 25 mins + (we were) it's ideal and we highly recommend.
Wonderful secluded mountain lodge
We had a wonderful week! We had a week long family reunion/get-together with 15 of us, including 4 teenagers and 2 kids under 5. The facility was just fantastic, with lots of bedrooms and a well equipped kitchen. We were able to fit all of us in the big dining room by moving a small table next to the big dining room table. The cabin is great for just relaxing and hanging out, or for trips to nearby attractions ... we went to Mesa Verde one day, Telluride another day. The river was nice for swimming although the current was a bit fast. You have to find the swimming hole ... follow the path down to the river but then go left through the weeds just before you get to the river. Everything was in good repair, very clean and all ready for us. Barbara the owner was very helpful. Be aware that you need to heed ALL of her instructions about bears. We made a campfire out back one evening. The stars were fantastic! Some of us took the hike up the hill behind the cabin, trailblazing through the woods to the tall chimney rock out back. A strenuous hike but worth it for the view.
Beautiful and Stunning
We came for a family reunion to visit Mesa Verde. The property was perfect for our family and had everything we needed with all the comforts of home! It was located in a beautiful area! The hummingbirds were some of our favorites and even the bears!
PERFECT IN MANY WAYS
This lodge was wonderful for our stay. We had a large family reunion group and were astonished at the beautiful place. The Lodge was comfortably furnished and decorated with all kinds of fun antiques. It was large and spacious and COMPLETELY stocked with everything. (except the food of course) Fully stocked kitchen with everything including crock pots and electric griddle. There was a closet full of games and puzzles and even a drawer full of office needs.... pencils, pens, tape, scissors, etc. They thought of everything to make our stay more pleasant. The mountain surroundings were beautiful including a large open field where the kids could run and play and a fire pit for an evening under the stars and SMORES. Oh, and don't forget the HUMMING BIRDS. So much fun to watch them through the window, just inches away. We loved everything about it. We enjoyed Mesa Verde which was very close to the lodge and did some hiking and biking on nearby trails. We highly recommend Bear Creek Mountain Lodge and would love to go back again.
