Wonderful secluded mountain lodge
We had a wonderful week! We had a week long family reunion/get-together with 15 of us, including 4 teenagers and 2 kids under 5. The facility was just fantastic, with lots of bedrooms and a well equipped kitchen. We were able to fit all of us in the big dining room by moving a small table next to the big dining room table. The cabin is great for just relaxing and hanging out, or for trips to nearby attractions ... we went to Mesa Verde one day, Telluride another day. The river was nice for swimming although the current was a bit fast. You have to find the swimming hole ... follow the path down to the river but then go left through the weeds just before you get to the river. Everything was in good repair, very clean and all ready for us. Barbara the owner was very helpful. Be aware that you need to heed ALL of her instructions about bears. We made a campfire out back one evening. The stars were fantastic! Some of us took the hike up the hill behind the cabin, trailblazing through the woods to the tall chimney rock out back. A strenuous hike but worth it for the view.
Beautiful and Stunning
We came for a family reunion to visit Mesa Verde. The property was perfect for our family and had everything we needed with all the comforts of home! It was located in a beautiful area! The hummingbirds were some of our favorites and even the bears!
PERFECT IN MANY WAYS
This lodge was wonderful for our stay. We had a large family reunion group and were astonished at the beautiful place. The Lodge was comfortably furnished and decorated with all kinds of fun antiques. It was large and spacious and COMPLETELY stocked with everything. (except the food of course) Fully stocked kitchen with everything including crock pots and electric griddle. There was a closet full of games and puzzles and even a drawer full of office needs.... pencils, pens, tape, scissors, etc. They thought of everything to make our stay more pleasant. The mountain surroundings were beautiful including a large open field where the kids could run and play and a fire pit for an evening under the stars and SMORES. Oh, and don't forget the HUMMING BIRDS. So much fun to watch them through the window, just inches away. We loved everything about it. We enjoyed Mesa Verde which was very close to the lodge and did some hiking and biking on nearby trails. We highly recommend Bear Creek Mountain Lodge and would love to go back again.
It was great for my family
The home was fantastic. We had 12 adults and 8 kids from 3 to 18 and we had all kinds of room. The kids could play outside or in but mostly out. We had.ever thing we needed. Thanks
We are so glad you loved the Lodge. We do too. It was built by my parents and their large family. We are happy that we were able to share this amazing place with your family.
Great for our large family reunion
The cabin is as described, rustic with nicely comfortable mountainous decor...and truly in a remote area where you will enjoy total peace and quiet and the beauty of untouched forest.
Barb and Carol who own the property were wonderful to work with. The manual that they put out is thorough and important to read as describes the location and the cabin size for the capabilities of a large party....as well as some of the challenges!
Sleeping accommodations are comfortable and depending on the size and number occupying the cabin ... The bathrooms may be a challenge.
Both kitchens were a huge plus for a large party! Both were fully stocked to cook for large parties!
We love the large dining table both for meals and for games. We loved the fire pit out back! We loved the perfectly placed Hummingbird feeder and the constant viewing of lots of hummingbirds all day long. The lookout balconies were large and very beautiful to view out into the forest and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Parking is ample.
Telluride is within an hours drive and several fishing lakes are nearby. Durango is not too far and a good days outing for the train and teenage activities.
The people living in the small town of Dolores are friendly and inviting. Lots of outdoor activities there and good eating in restaurants and coffee houses!
All in all a very nice week with our large family reunion!
We love sharing our truly beautiful and unique area of Colorado. It is a very special place and our goal is to have groups like yours make fantastic memories they will remember always. Please come back again soon.
A Fantastic Get-Away
Bear Creek Mountain Lodge (BCML) was perfect for our large family of 9 (7 children, ages 9 y to 20 y). There was plenty of room to spread out for some alone time, and come together for family meals and games. Sleeps 20-21 and has plenty of kitchen and dining room space to accommodate the same. We were able to sit around one table as a family! We hiked into the local mountains behind BCML, which is about 8,100 ft above sea level, and we hiked to 9,200 ft. There was more to go, but we were winded (We live at 650 ft). The scenery was stunning. Mesa Verde, Four Corners and Telluride are within reasonable driving distance. We loved the national park of Mesa Verde and rafting in Durango, and highly recommend Bar D Chuckwagon. After a long day of sightseeing, sinking into the comfy couches, chairs, and beds of BCML was so relaxing. AT&T and Verizon cell service was sketchy at best. So it was great to be able to hook into the provided WiFi or catch a movie on Netflix. We had a blast playing in the river across the street. Property owners, Barbara and Carol, were responsive to emails and always available, although we didn't have any real problems.
