September in Florence
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our fortnight in this lovely, spacious apartment. We thought the photos did not do full justice to it. We loved the river views, and coming back to the cool and tranquillity after the days' sightseeing. The amenities are excellent. It might be useful to list the two hair-dryers, to save future occupants including in luggage.
About 20 minutes walking to old City centre, or to S.Maria Novella, the main centre for rail and bus transport. But there are buses to both just round the corner from the apartment. As a change from the City, an hour's rail journey to Certoldo is well worth it.
Big apartment, nice location, a little spartan
The apartment is very clean and well situated on a quiet street (traffic is restricted to residents except Sundays) directly on the Arno River, but only a short 5-10 minute walk from the historic center. It's very large and could sleep a lot of people. The two bathrooms are nice and it's great to have a washing machine, although there is no dryer (only a drying rack). On the downside, the bedrooms on the courtyard side (facing away from the river) can be very hot and sticky in warm weather, and when we were there the owner hadn't provided fans, so we were forced to buy our own (she did bring us fans the next day, but we didn't want to spend another sleepless night there).
We also had to move mattresses into the living room, on the river side, since our friends were already staying in the one riverfront bedroom. On warm nights, it's impossible to sleep without the windows open, but that also lets the mosquitoes in. The electric anti-mosquito devices the owner provided don't really work. Fans are a necessity (and they help with the mosquitoes), so I hope the owner, Lucia, has since remedied this problem.
The kitchen is spacious and functional, but I'd suggest Lucia buy a few more pots with lids -- it's difficult to cook a decent meal without lids. I also found the lighting throughout the apartment (mostly overhead or ceiling) to be a little harsh and unpleasant. Perhaps a few floor lamps would help?
Lucia is very friendly and accommodating, and we truly appreciated the use of a secure parking space in the inner courtyard.
Finally, for anyone interested in a very good and reasonably priced restaurant nearby, we loved Il Vinaino. It's about a 5-minute walk. Google "Cheap Eats Florence The Guardian" and you'll find the review there. Definitely worth it and not too pricy!
I just received review from one of your friends..or may be your husband..i don't know.. it is not written the name of the person who wrote this.
I am very sorry he was not happy about the apartment, i tried to do my best to help providing what you needs.
The day after your request, I provided you the fans I had (4 fans) I live next door..but we could talk about that during your stay, I would have done my best to help you.
Now, this not nice review make me not only sad but saying things later makes me impossible to remedy to your dissatisfaction.
Live in a Palace on the Arno!
We stayed with Christopher (who gave this place one star) but had a totally different experience. Yes, June is hot and muggy in Florence, and yes, there are mosquitos, but we had the river facing bedroom (in which I felt like a queen) and had very pleasant nights, while their first night facing the inner courtyard was difficult as they could not sleep with the mosquitos and heat. We asked for a fan and were given 4 the next night, but by then our friends had gone out and bought two and moved their mattresses to the living room, which also faces the river, where there is a nice constant breeze. Luckily, my husband gets the mosquito bites, so I slept in perfect bliss, listening to the frogs at night.
The apartment is huge, filled with old antiques and original paintings and furniture. If you like a modern apartment, this is not for you. We kept getting lost in the hall, which has all the rooms off of it. Each room is huge and beautiful, with arched ceilings, molding on the walls, our bedroom had an antechamber (which can be used as another bedroom) with double doors which led to the inner bedroom. The windows in the living room and our bedroom were absolutely beautiful, and the view was breathtaking.
Yes, some pans could use lids, and some of the wine glasses had cracks in them, but there were many adequate dishes and glasses to use. Lucia brought us dishwasher soap after we asked for it. The showers were large and hot (not my experience in any other Italian apartment we rented), we appreciated two bathrooms, the kitchen was beautiful and huge, and again, the bedroom we stayed in was divine.
Lucia was very responsive and friendly in booking the apartment, and lives right next door (which we should have taken advantage of when we needed fans and dishwasher soap.)
All in all, this was the most beautiful place we stayed of the 4 apartments we rented, the cleanest, and by far the most grand. It is also a bargain for the amount of people that could stay here. The only negative was the wi-fi only worked in the living room because the walls are so thick, but I didn't really mind since we were more interested in exploring Florence or eating and sleeping. This place made our next apartment in Venice seem drab and depressing, so I recommend it to anyone who wants peace and luxury in Florence.
It is a 15 minute walk to the main part of Florence, but it was so touristy that I appreciated coming home to our palatial slice of the river.
A room with a view
It's always daunting booking on line for an apartment in a city never visited before - however I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful apartment on the banks of the Arno. Lucia the owner was exceptionally helpful and I certainly recommend her offer to book for you the important sights.my friends and I visited the Uffizi - Santa Croche - Mass in the Duomo and the Accadamia to see David
From the apartment we found a supermarket and 2 lovely coffee bars . The walk into Florence along the bank of the Arno offers a breathtaking view of the city and takes about 15 mins at a normal pace.We saw so much more on route and kept going over the bridges to see the other side of the city.Round every corner the architecture, the statues, the history are breathtaking.
The apartment is beautiful and spacious with a lift if needed.i really cannot recommend the apartment highly enough so much so that I hope to come back to the apartment next year.
Lucia speaks excellent English and nothing was too much trouble I really appreciated this as a visitor to an unknown city.
Florence is really beautiful and was made all the better having an apartment that reflected the architecture of the city
Specious with great views
I will start by summarizing that the accommodation exceeded our expectations. It was specious with a great views to the river and the City. It was close to all the amenities, yet in a safe area and Lucia was wonderful.
Now for the full story:
We travelled to Europe from the US and had planned to meet up with our extended family so that we could enjoy some time together and explore Florence and Rome. I had previously never rented private accommodation for a vacation and so I was a little apprehensive. I was researching possible options and I came across Lucia’s apartment. After reading the reviews, I contacted Lucia and she informed me that it was available for the dates I needed. I took the risk and I am sure glad I did.
When we arrived in Florence at around 10pm to the apartment Lucia greeted us and gave us a tour of the apartment and familiarized us with the nearby amenities, park etc. The rest of the family arrived later that night. There were 8 adults and 2 children in total and the apartment was big enough to accommodate us all. The furniture was quaint, but we had all the necessities and it felt like home. The train station was about 15 minute walk and we did excursions by train to Rome. In the evenings we came back to the apartment cooked and enjoyed lovely meals together as a large group. Other days we lazed around and went to the local places to visit as well as shopping in town.
It turned out to be one of the hottest weeks of the year in Europe and my only recommendation would be that electric fans and a microwave would be a nice to have. Overall we had a great time and I would stay there again.
spacious and comfortable
We rented Lucia’s Apartment Lungarno during our four nights stay in Florence. Our group consists of 5 adults and 4 pre-teenagers, and Lucia’s larger apartment fits us very well. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. We especially like the views to the Arno River every morning with our freshly brewed espresso.
Different from hotels, the apartment is equipped as a nice guest house. Lucia provides many extras to make our stay like living in our own home in Florence, from tour books, movies, music CDs, umbrella, shopping cart, etc. We enjoyed cooking our meals in the big and well-equipped kitchen with quality cookware. It saved us time and money in reserving restaurant for our big group. There are mini-markets and stores just few blocks away that you can get a variety of quality produce and meats. Lucia told us that there are also some good restaurants around, but we preferred to do the cooking ourselves.
The apartment location is perfect for us because it is about 15 minutes away from the train station. It is not very far from the major attractions if we decided to walk along the Arno River. Every day, we either walked 20 minutes or took buses that maneuver around local streets to museums. Bus stop is only about 5 minutes walk from the apartment. We felt safe walking back to the apartment at night.
Lucia is nice and friendly. She is very attentive to our needs. We usually communicate with texting through our phones. Lucia usually would texted me back with answers right away which is a convenience communication method to us.
We highly recommend Lucia’s properties, especially in cases like us that travelling with a big group and with children.
The apartment is located in the Lungarno Vespucci, very near the Railway Station and at 5 minutes from the major streets of the city centre. Restaurants and trattorias are in walking distance together with supermarkets and shopping centre. Ponte Vecchio is at 15 minutes of foot. Bus stop and tram stop are at 3 minutes. The area in quiet and safe, come to see Florence staying in apartment Vespucci!!!
