Awesome stay!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this location for a fishing trip in October. It was very clean and had a lot of room to cook, rest, and watch some tv. I caught some great fish and great times in a solid location. Very close to places to eat as well as a grocery store. Great tackle shop close by and a quick drive to the point at Hatteras. Great layout, very clean, overall couldn't have asked for a better outer banks experience.

Owner's Response: We agree that The Point is one of the "must see" places on the Outer Banks. The area is widely known for its natural beauty and as one of the best fishing areas in the US. Thanks again for your reservation.

Nice house but off main highway and needs a make up

  • 2 of 5

We were somewhat disappointed because the noise from the highway was very annoying, even at night. Besides, the house could need a thorough make up, various things did not work properly including ACC, toilet flushers, extractor hood, and more. Carpets and curtains were pretty worn down so that we considered the rental too expensive for what it offered.

Owner's Response: The air conditioning blower unit has been replaced and, please note, our maintenance company did bring a/c window units to our guests. All the toilets will be replaced as part of next year’s maintenance schedule as replacement parts are getting difficult to find for full flush tanks.

House Rental During A Tropical Storm

  • 4 of 5

Considering the circumstances we went through with weather from Tropical Storm Hermine this past weekend, our stay was comfortable and cozy enough. The house stood through the 40-60 mph winds, and the surge of water from the inlet side only went across the main highway right up to the driveway, but not into it.

The house feels like it was probably built and not remodeled since the 80s, but was still comfortable and with a homey feeling. The 'This End Up'-style furniture I'm sure helped my mother feel comfortable, as she has it all in her home too. The owner, Bobbi M., was VERY responsive to our minor issues and did everything she could to make the stay more enjoyable.

A few minor notes:

- The house has WiFi, but don't expect to have more than 'dial-up' speeds (especially if everyone has their cell phones linked to it).

- The larger room downstairs sounded like we were sleeping on a trash bag all night. The mattress was covered with some kind of plastic. The sheets provided almost felt as old as the house, too, very thin.

- There were a few appliance quirks in the kitchen, but there was plenty of utensils, pots, pans, plates, glasses etc. for the 10 of us. The dishwasher fluid latch was broken on the dishwasher. The left side of the toaster didn't work. Sometimes when running the microwave, the coffee maker, and fridge at the same time, the fuse would short and need to be reset. Also, I wish we had seen the note earlier that there was an extra leaf to the dining room table were we could extend it to be larger, but it was a nice option to sit at outdoor patio, too

- The bedroom on the top floor is the loudest & most scary during the storm. There was a slight ant issue in the bathroom on that floor, w/ some dead bugs also having fallen in the tub (probably because of the storm shaking). The toilet on that floor also needs to be replaced, as the flapper and inner workings aren't really working well. That bedroom has the least privacy too, as you can see into it slightly from the living room below, but it does have a nice balcony.

Overall, this house definitely met our needs. Come in w/ moderate expectations and you won't be let down. It's a beach house & worth the price you pay. You can see the beach out the living room window, although it's not beach front- it's close. The tide was very high on the beach while we were there (post-storm). It went all the way up and beyond the new sand fence that was installed- which was right at the dunes.

Owner's Response: Our maintenance team (Shore Details) is very responsive and handled your maintenance concerns quickly. Most homes are built on stilts for flood safety, and you can attest that storms do make a difference on the island -- you now have a story to share! Thank you for being our guest.

August 2016 in Avon

  • 4 of 5

We had a very nice time with beautiful weather as well as the immiment sea turtle egg hatching. House was comfortable. Outdoor shower was great. Access to the beach was a little steep and hot (sand) at times but overall beautiful home. Plenty of cooking utencils for family meals. A/C worked just fine. Kids were not happy with the wifi bandwith but that was okay since they needed to be enjoying the outdoors. Very nice place to stay. Thanks!

Owner's Response: Turtle nesting is so fascinating. We once saw the tracks in the sand to a nest when a female laid her eggs and would love to see the hatchlings some day. That's the beauty of Hatteras Island. The beaches are wide open and great for a laid-back vacation. (The internet speeds will catch up with the rest of the world some day !!) Thanks again for your reservation.

very nice home- fit our family's needs perfectly

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house as an extended family with a couple w 5 kids, a set of grandparents, and a bachelor uncle. House was very clean and comfortable. There is a really nice 3rd floor bedroom which had the lovely deck in the photo and it was just right for the bachelor uncle (to escape to). The table was big enough for all of us. The grandparents could have a master suite with their own bathroom. It was easy to walk to the beach over the dunes for everyone but the grandparent with bad arthritis. (There are a lot of stairs-- he did have to go up to the first floor via outdoor stairs, so would note that if you have a person in your party with mobility issues. He took his time.) It was near shops and we could run or bike (bike rental not too far away) to stores as the main road had wide sidewalks. We made a short trip to the National Park at the Lighthouse and this house is convenient to swimming and fishing and to Pamlico Sound as well as the beach.

My family would come back to this property again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your insight into beach vacationing! Newer beach houses are on stilts for flood insurance requirements! and, To optimize the ocean views, the "reverse floor plan" means bedrooms on the first floor and the main gathering area on the next level up. We appreciate your ideas and work closely with our concierge and maintenance company to improving your stay. Thanks again.

Very nice

Great stay in a fine location. Will be back again! One thing to be aware of is the spiral staircase to the loft bedroom is a bit narrow but worth the climb once you get there! Plenty of bedroom space downstairs if the climb is not something you want to do.
