If you are seeking an alternative to large commercial resorts, these townhouse apartments provide the ideal opportunity to experience local lifestyles in a charming southern coastal town!

We offer a choice of three seperate units, all of which have a unique layout and are very nicely furnished. All units have private bathroom facilites, a fully equipped kitchen, dining/living room area and varied sleeping options. Each unit has a TV with good cable options and internet service.

The property is located on the edge of the village, in a typical quiet residential area. The area is serviced by a variety of shops which are within a few minutes walk. The piazza (centre of town) and seafront are 300 - 400 metres away and there are numerous small local bars and restaurants scattered around the town and along the seafront.

We guarantee that this property is fully licensed by the Malta Tourism Authority to be used as holiday home accommodation. Details are available on request.

More about Birzebbuga: The town has a population of 10’000 people. There are 8 churches/chapels and the main church is St. Peters. On the first Sunday in August the feast of St. Peter is celebrated. The feast includes local activities, processions, village band, street decorations spectacular fireworks.The name Birzebbugia means “well of olives” which was one of the main productive industries in the area many years ago. There is an open air market which is held along the main street leading to the church every Thursday from 6am until 1pm. There are several traditional bakeries still using the traditional stone ovens. The local delicacy known as 'Bigilla' which is made out of broad beans is still delivered by street vendor, as is fresh fish and other local produce.

More historical facts about Birzebbuga: Birzebbuga history dates back 7400 years ago at Ghar Dalam (Dark Cave). It was here that the earliest evidence of human settlement on Malta. It is a huge cavern which is 144 metres deep with evidence of the earliest settlers. More recent history dating to the Bronze age (3000BC), include the Borg In Nadur ancient settlement site, however this site is currently closed to the public and its preservation are in hand at Heritage Malta in Valletta. During the 16th century the Knights of St. John constructed a number of small forts along the southern coast. This was to further defend the coastline after the Great Seige of 1565 against the Ottomon Turks whom invaded Malta from Birzebbuga and nearby Marsaxlokk. On December 3rd, 1989 US President Bush and USSR leader Mikhail Gorbachev met on board the Soviet ship SS Maxim Gorkiy just of the coast of Birzebbuga. During this important meeting the leaders ended the Cold War. You can see the monument dedicated to this event on the coast.

Getting around from Birzebbuga: From the comfort of your holiday home you can plan your daily schedule. There are abundance of sites to visit in the south including most of the prehistoric temples sites such as Hypogeum Temple, Tarxien, Hagar Qim and Mnajdra. The historical citiy of Birgu (Vittoriosa) and the Grand Harbour are a short drive away. Other popular places to visit in the south include the Blue Grotto and the fishing village of Marsaxlokk is under 3km away.. A regular bus service to Valletta and other towns are frequent and cheap, you can then link to other places of interest such as Mdina, Rabat and the north of the island. Car hire is also a good option and provides even more freedom to explore, especially if you intend touring non stop…! We can also arrange day tours, cruises and day trips to Sicily for you, including pick-up from Birzebbuga.

Access to this unit is from the first floor of this small block. The upside down layout consists of entrance which has access to the large double bedroom on one side and the bathroom with separate shower and floor level Jacuzzi, on the other.

An internal staircase from the entrance will take you to the upper floor and an open plan layout. This wonderfully designed space includes a fully equipped modern kitchen with breakfast table, a dining area and split level living area with one large sofa. The highlight of this property is the 54sq metre rooftop decked terrace which is part a sun deck and part shaded. Here you can really unwind, relax on the large sofa, dine al fresco, top up your sun tan and enjoy the town and country views.

This property has been designed for comfort, providing a homely ambiance. The dining, sitting and bedroom have ceiling fans. A mobile heater is provided during winter.

Why Chris chose Island of Malta

It is located in a quiet area on the edge of the town, yet only 400 metres from the piazza (centre) and beach...all the shops are in walking distance.

This property has a special place in our hearts, the land the property is built on, was given to my wife by her father.

The holiday apartments that we are offering are actually the result of an extensive conversion from what was our own enormous house, having a floor area of 350sqm, into these three spacious and beautiful independent units..this total conversion happened between mid 2009 and mid 2010.

We now live in a much smaller house and closer to our place of work.

We are confident you will have some fond memories of the property and the location just like we have...we do look forwarding to welcoming you to our home.

What makes this apartment unique

As the property is close to all the shops it is very convenient. In additional it is located at the edge of the village, therefore there is hardly any vehicles passing.

The fact that the property is village core, our guests particularly find the neighbours, shop owners very friendly and courteous which quite normal for Malta.

I do believe that the real benefit staying here is that you have the opportunity to live and enjoy the local lifestyles. If you want large hotels, shopping malls, hectic nightlife etc.. don't bother coming because you will very very disappointed. On the other hand, if you enjoy slow paced, local bars and restaurants, meeting locals etc...you will love it.

Fabulous Beyond Expectations

My husband and I just finished a delightful six-week stay in the rooftop terrace apartment. We found the two story apartment far exceeded our expectations. The property is fastidiously maintained and “eat off the floor” clean. Even by US standards the apartment is large. With the bedroom and bath on the first floor and the living area on the second floor, my husband could get up at his usual crack of dawn, have his coffee, read his paper, and not disturb my sleep. Because we pack light, the washing machine was used frequently. The internet was fast and reliable.

The second floor dining room, kitchen, living room and terrace was spacious and well appointed. We loved coming back from a day of touring Malta to a relaxing cocktail on the VERY large terrace. The hot tub was an added relaxation.

The location in the village of Birzebugga was a wonderful surprise. The bus stop is a five minute walk away and for 1.5 Euro a day we took the bus to every place on the island. In the village, there were butcher shops, green grocers, and at the end of the block a general store that delivers. Thursdays offered a nearby street market where we found fresh farm eggs and fresh produce. Within a five minute walk there were many restaurants down by the water, a beach and a lovely walking area around the harbor. We walked every Sunday to nearby Marsaslokk where there’s a shore front flea market/ fish market/farmer’s market and craft market all running parallel to the many quality restaurants.

The owner, Chris, was most helpful and accommodating. He paid attention to even the smallest detail plus always returned emails in a timely fashion.

The six-week stay enabled us to tour the numerous Malta historical sites. What a treat. We found the stay very comfortable and were sad to leave. Oh, well, there’s always next year.

This property was perfect for a relaxing holiday and I could not fault it.

A return visit is on the cards for next year.I can recommend it to all.

The bubble spa is most unusual but a complete pleasure.The property was very clean & well maintained and the owner was most helpful.

I loved the area it was very friendly.

The local restaurants are good and I can recommend the Seabreeze.

Birzebugga - Ferienwohnung

Die Beschreibung der Einrichtung und Lage im Ort ist gut. Wir wurden zur abgemachten Zeit am Flughafen abgeholt und auf der Fahrt nach Birzebugga wurden uns einige Tips für den Aufenthalt gegeben. In Birzebugga angekommen zeigte Chris uns die Buchten, Restaurants und Shops. Die Wohnung war sehr sauber und wir fühlten uns sofort wohl.

Die Sehenswürdigkeiten auf Malta besichtigten wir mit dem öffentlichen Bus. Es gefiel uns, dass Birzebugga selber wenig touristisch ist.

Mit Fragen konnten wir uns jederzeit beim Vermieter melden.

Wir können den Aufenthalt in dieser Ferienwohnung empfehlen.

First-Class-Appartement - äußerst empfehlenswert

Wir (2 Erwachsene) haben dieses Appartement im Juli 2010 für 13 Tage gebucht und sind hellauf begeistert! Die Besitzer sind sehr freundlich und engagiert - die Wohnung ist großartig. Genauso wie - nein - besser als auf den Fotos dargestellt. Das Appartement war sehr chic und sauber! Küche, Badezimmer, Schlafzimmer, Handtücher, Bettwäsche - alles wie nagelneu...Die Hi-Tech Ausstattung umfasst LCD-TV, DVD, SAT (mit vielen Radio- und Fernsehkanälen, darunter auch Deutsche), WIFI, LAN, Waschmaschine, Kühlschrank, Mikrowelle, Ofen - alles was das Herz begehrt. Außerdem ist die Inneneinrichtung (Leder Couch) und Dekoration (Valetta Glas) sehr hochwertig. Neben vielen Kochutensilien wird auch ein Bügeleisen mit -brett und ein Fön bereitgestellt. Es gibt keine Klimaanlage, aber die installierten Deckenventilatoren kühlten die Innenluft ausreichend (und das Mitte Juli). Dank der Fliegengitter konnten wir auch ruhig schlafen. Die große Dachterrasse ist ein absolutes Highlight. Es gibt zwei Sonnenliegen, eine große Sonnenterrasse, auf der man beinahe den ganzen Tag Sonne hat sowie einen überdachten, schattigen Abschnitt mit Chill Out Lounge, Esstisch und dem genialen Bubble Spa. Das große Schlafzimmer bietet genügend Stauraum und das Bett ist extrem angenehm. Das Badezimmer hat ein Fenster und ist mit WC, Waschbecken, Dusche (ausgezeichneter Wasserdruck) und Jacuzzi ausgestattet.

Birzebuggia ist super! Das Appartement befindet sich im Zentrum in einer Seitenstrasse, die eine Sackgasse ist. Dort kann man auch ohne Probleme kostenlos parken. Keine Autos fahren vorbei - es ist wunderbar ruhig. Der Frachthafen und die vorbeifliegenden Flugzeuge, die in vielen Reiseführern abschreckend dargestellt werden, haben uns absolut nicht gestört. Die Gegend ist noch frei von Massentourismus - ohne große Hotelkomplexe - und daher original maltesisch. Die Malteser sind sehr nett. Supermarkt, Bäcker, Obst- und Gemüsehändler, Metzger und sogar ein Haushaltsshop/Baumarkt befindet sich nur ein paar Schritte entfernt. Die Pretty Bay kann zu Fuß in nur 5 Minuten erreicht werden. Dort finden Sie viele Restaurants, die auch Essen zum Mitnehmen anbieten - falls Sie Ihr Abendessen lieber auf der großartigen Terrasse genießen möchten. In Birzebuggia kann man sich auch ins echt maltesische Nachtleben stürzen.

Zusammenfassend: Wir können das Appartement an alle, die eine moderne, komfortable und ruhige Oase zum Entspannen suchen, wärmstens empfehlen.
