The Blue Heron is premier vacation home on the rugged coast of Mendocino. This home is the perfect place for your family reunion, a gathering of friends, or as a romantic getaway for just the two of you.
Situated minutes from Mendocino Village, this newly remodeled home is tastefully appointed with high-vaulted ceilings, large picture windows, a wood burning stone fireplace, granite and marble countertops, top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances, Viking stove with six burners and a convection oven, and a second fireplace above the master whirlpool bath!
The two story open floor plan promotes communication between the kitchen, dining, living, and entertainment areas. The large well-stocked kitchen offers all the amenities you could want. Old and new kids alike can escape downstairs to the recreation room and play a board game, watch a movie, surf the wireless high-speed internet, or play one of 100 games on the commercial arcade machine.
Whitewater vistas are afforded from almost every room. Spend the day observing the abundant wildlife through the picture windows or watching the Pacific Ocean crash onto the rocks. Relax in the outdoor hot tub and listen to the sounds of the ocean while you gaze up at the stars. Watch one of the many movies provided on the widescreen TV with surround sound, play a board game, start a puzzle, or simply enjoy a good book.
If you prefer to venture out; stroll or bike to nearby Russian Gulch State Park with its lush fern gullies, small beach, and waterfalls. Mendocino Village is only a three minute drive south with wonderful shops and some of the finest cuisine in California. Historic Fort Bragg, just ten minutes north, is home to the famous Skunk Train, miles of oceanfront walking, biking, and horseback riding.
Enjoy the best that the North Coast has to offer in this Mendocino Gem. Don't let the chance slip away for you to reserve this wonderful home before it books up for the season.
Eric and I spent our first vacation together in Mendocino almost twenty years ago and it quickly became one of our very favorite places to be. We began our adventures in local B&Bs but soon found that we enjoyed the freedom and privacy of vacation rental homes. In 2004 we were fortunate to purchase a newly remodeled home near Russian Gulch State Park and dubbed her The Blue Heron. Taking the best of our experiences we strive to provide the perfect place for your vacation, retreat, reunion, or romantic getaway.
Saundra & Eric purchased this house in 2004
Getting away from the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area is just a short drive away. We both have a strong desire to be close to the ocean and to be surrounded by all of the beauty and nature that Mendocino has to offer.
We enjoy walking to the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, hiking the waterfall trail in Russian Gulch, dining in some of California's finest restaurants, shopping in the village, meandering along the bluff tops, and spending time in the local Gallery Bookshop. But most of all we enjoy sitting at home watching the ocean churn and the wildlife that visits our property; wild turkeys, deer, osprey, rabbits, quail, and if there's a storm, we watch that too. Just to be there reading a book or taking a nap is wonderful!
We enjoyed our stay. The openess and cleanliness of the whole place let us relax immediately. Dealing with Saundra was also very good. Hope to go back again soon.
We rented this home for a much needed weekend get away. Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the area and the home itself. Conveniently located for day excursions between Mendocino and Ft Bragg. Especially enjoyed the Point Cabrillo Light Station tour.
The home itself is spacious, clean, and organized. Very relaxing. We're planning to stay again.
It is such a great place for several people to share and still feel they have some breathing room. Different conversation areas. Very updated, clean and well stocked for visiting. Amazing kitchen! Although it is not directly on the water, the views are lovely from many areas of the home. The 3 bedrooms and baths are each separate and spacious. The location is great, especially for hiking at the Russian Gulch.
We had the best girl's trip in this amazing home. Would love to go back and bring the kids as this home has so much space! Beds were comfortable and the home was very clean. Mendocino has the best hikes, restaurants and wineries. I can't wait to go back.
We stayed here for a few days in early January, and were extremely disappointed at what was claimed to be the "ocean views". The house looks directly into tree's and other homes; I believe the picture was taken with the telescope thats in the ad. If you are looking to sit inside and stare at the ocean, this is not the house for you. However, it is a great open floor plan which is good for kids. I had read a review about how the carpets and some furniture need to be cleaned, and this is still the case, as they are fairly dirty. However, I would have been fine with that had the views been what we had anticipated. The town of Mendocino is extremely close, which was great - as it's a wonderful place to visit.
My family and I highly recommend Blue Heron. We were a party of five adults, with a sixth joining us for two nights of our one-week stay, and Blue Heron offered everything we needed to have a wonderful time together. The house is even larger and more beautiful than the pictures indicate. For instance, there is a large dining room table in the living area at which we could work on a big puzzle at one end and sit together for meals at the other. There was also seating at the island in the kitchen area for more casual chatting over our morning coffee. The kitchen is beautifully appointed and organized, so many of us could comfortably cook together (hint: Safeway in Fort Bragg is close and excellent for groceries). Another huge plus was the ample leisure seating—there were sofas in cozy areas, a huge sofa in front of the picture windows, and a sofa near the fire. Everyone always had a place to sprawl and read or talk together. My daughter and her husband enjoyed their private bath and bedroom; my husband and I loved the master suite with its own big windows and balcony access, a walk-in closet, and a bathroom that included a Jacuzzi and gas fireplace! My bachelor son claimed the downstairs bedroom and bathroom. And my six-foot plus brother claimed that he was perfectly comfortable on one of the two (full) futons in the game room for the two nights when he came to stay with us. Another plus was the hot tub, wonderful for relaxing in the evening while watching the sunset. Of course, Blue Heron is convenient to everything. We loved Russian Gulch, which is right next door. In fact, on the last morning, my husband went there for a fast goodbye to its magnificent landscape and ocean views and saw not one but two whales breech! A grand conclusion to a grand vacation. Thank you, Saundra and Eric. And thank you for your very prompt responses to our few questions, before, during, and after our stay.
It's not easy to find a house that will comfortably hold 10 people but Blue Heron did it with room to spare!
We had a wonderful 3 days on the coast with unexpectedly beautiful sunny weather. The house was well appointed and equipped with everything we needed. Saundra, the owner, was great at communicating with me each step of the way as we set the rental up. I highly recommend this rental for large groups, even when their related!
