Three bedroom home located in Clearwater section of Springs, East Hampton. It is just a short distance from the home and museum of artist, Jackson Pollock. 20X40 heated pool with pool house and outdoor shower. Large deck with awning and barbecue. It includes access to a beautiful private beach on Gardiner's bay, approximately 3/4 miles away. Numerous other bay beaches within a short drive or bike ride and ocean beaches a ten minute drive away

Could have been amazing

On the positive side of things the owners were helpful on the operations side of renting their property and willing to discuss the area so that we could plan for our trip.

The down side was;

• The children’s room had an infestation of ants ( My girls had to share the master bedroom with my husband, and thus I had to sleep in a single bed in a separate room)

• The main bathroom had an infestation of ants. ( I am talking about up to 30 ants at one time- big army ants)

• Neighbors backing on to property were putting in a deck or doing construction both weekends

• Neighbors to the right- full renovation happening including clearing all trees for the installation of an in ground pool.

Ant problem on the premises was truly not a “feature” we were looking for given that we were investing a significant amount of money for a vacation and it had a direct negative impact in many ways.

Neighbors backing on to property building a deck both weekends, cutting and nailing from 9am-7pm!

Neighbors to the right are putting in a pool- arborists were on site 4 days in a row and the noise was out of this world not to mention men in harnesses up in the trees and the woodchipper that ran throughout everyday as did the other large pieces of equipment in which we captured in photos for our reference.

It was so loud we could not play music or speak to our girls if they were in the pool, nor use our ipad for you could only hear the wood chipper :(

We did email the Owner and her email response was; "We did not know property had sold"! No apology or acknowledgement for how inconvenient this was or understanding that this was a serious disruptive noise and that it was not something that could be ignored, or tolerated from renters. Another important point is that we specifically rented their property to sit by the pool vs going to the beach and to get away from "NOISE" which in the end was no longer an option for us.

In the end we DID NOT get to enjoy the lovely pool and peacefulness , as we had to make day trips to get away from this noise and take bike rides to occupy our time and get away.

As of today, we have not been compensated in anyway, from the owners in a manner that would demonstrate and acknowledge their role and responsibility as owners/renters to their guests who paid them for a vacation of noise.

We are hopeful they will do the right thing and give us some form of credit to demonstrate that they acknowledge that this was an unfortunate situation and perhaps unk

Owner's Response: We are very sorry that they did not enjoy their stay. We went out of our way to prepare our home for these guests. We tried to be helpful in answering all their questions and concerns. We truly did not know of the construction at our neighbor's home and unfortunately had no control over that. As for the ants, they never informed us of the supposed problem. The first we heard of it was in their comments to VRBO after they left. If we had known about it, we would have had our caretaker, who lives 10 minutes away, to come over and address the problem. We are back in our home now and have not encountered one ant. To have ants in one's home in this part of Long Island during the summer is not terribly uncommon but easily controlled with minor spraying or ant traps. We believe ant infestation is a bit of a stretch. The house was rented the following week and thankfully there were no complaints of construction noise or ants.
