When arriving in a a new city that initial ride in the taxi to the house can be a little unnerving. It felt like an age and it seemed as though we were
driving further and further away from central Edinburgh. I will admit that my traveling companions were given me the evil eye. However upon arriving at this absolutely beautiful house all was forgiven. The view from the living room is indescribably beautiful. You can see the full run of Edinburgh from the castle to Arthur's seat. It is breath taking. Muriel provides her tenants with the renter's bible ( as christened by one of my traveling companions). It contains loads of information about the house and appliances, how to get about in Edinburgh, local shops everything you might need. Muriel herself is very helpful as well, calling to check that everything is in order. You are barely a ten minute walk to the bus station and then a five minute ride will have you right on the Royal Mile or Princes St. I would highly recommend this property and plan to use it again to Edinburgh in the
This was a fantastic rental! We traveled to Edinburgh with two small children (both under age 3) and we couldn't have picked a better location. Pictures don't do the house justice as it was in excellent condition, extremely spacious and the views were magnificent. It had everything we needed and there were detailed descriptions for potential problem areas (i.e. how to use the dishwasher, washer/dryer, etc). Muriel called us the day we arrived to make sure everything was in order and offered great advice on local bus routes, shopping, etc. The house had all of the tourist maps/flyers you would find in a hotel and we were never at a loss as to where something might be.
The house is also right by a main bus line and you could reach Princes Street in about 20 minutes or a park with playground in less than 10. It is located right near the Royal Observatory which has some great walking trails. Cameron Toll Shopping Center is about 5 mins away by car with all your shopping needs. There is also a small shop at the bottom of the hill with essentials.
If you don't want to head downtown or want to skip cooking there are some great restaurants that deliver. Flyers are in the house. The food from India Today was fantastic!
The only challenge for us with small children was that the house is on a rather large hill. Getting down is no problem but be prepared to do some walking on the way up, although there is a shortcut (with stairs) and the streets have almost no traffic.
Edinburgh was a great city and this rental made it even better. We have rented from about 5 or 6 places throughout Europe and this has been the best one by far. I can't say enough good things about it and would highly recommend it to others. Even though it's not directly downtown you can't go wrong with staying here!
