This enchanting multilevel lodge is set in a mountain laurel, rhododendron and hemlock pine forest with over 200 feet of waterfront on a glacier formed, crystal clear, crater lake.
An Inviting slate floor foyer has stairs that lead to an upstairs master suite. The landing leaves you in a loft that overlooks the living room. it has a TV, drawing desk, and small day bed for comfort and occasional guest. Beyond the loft is a spacious bedroom with a very romantic canopy bed w/ new mattress and custom bedding. Antique furnishings include marble top dressers, stand up mirror, desk, steamer trunk, & Wing chair. Behind the bedroom is a charming bathroom with a shower and skylight.
The main floor boasts a spacious living room with an enormous stone fireplace, grand piano, Antler chandeliers, and a game table (seats 6) with numerous games suitable for all ages. The living room has a large screen 3D, HDTV complete with cable, wireless internet, and a stereo system. Overstuffed leather couches, an ottoman, an antique writing desk and Persian rugs complete the room. Antiques give the home an incredible ambiance, but never at the expense of comfort. Beauty and comfort blend together seamlessly in this home.
The eat-in kitchen's hand carved, all wood cabinets and counters are balanced with new stainless steel appliances and closet pantry for easy meal preparation. The French door stainless steel refrigerator with ice maker, the sleek and electric glass top range and dual convection/microwave oven and dishwasher are new. The Kitchen is appointed with everything you need to make yourself at home including coffee maker, toaster, pots and pans, etc... The adjacent dining room has an antique, lazy Susan country pine table with 6 ladder back chairs and chandelier. It is full of collectibles & antiques and overlooks the lake and the sleeping porch.
Two guest rooms and the spacious guest bathroom are also on the main floor off the foyer. The first bedroom (The Independence room) has a queen size bed. The second bedroom (Sail Away) has two twin size beds on locking casters that can easily convert to make a king size bed. The bathroom is spacious and clean, with a tub/shower combination and a greenhouse window.
The sleeping porch off the living room on the main floor has a small daybed for naps, bird watching, sunset viewing, and a small table for your morning coffee. Altogether my favorite place for lazy afternoons!
A separate artists studio downstairs is accessed through the porch. It may also sleep 2 additional guests on a sleeper sofa, & provides privacy for artists, writers, to work quietly away from the house, The views from this room are inredible. There is, of course, a full artists set-up with drawing table & easel, natural lighting, and a private, lower deck overlooking the lake. A spacious laundry room with a large shower and vanity sink & a workshop with storage for boating equipment completes the downstairs studio.
There are multiple decks off the cabin with outdoor eating, bar, prep sink, barbecue, fire pit, Hot tub, and lounge areas.
On the waterfront, there are also multiple decks for dining and food preparation, outdoor kitchen with an under the counter refrigerator, and dock. There is another fire pit, and a place to set up a tent if you want to 'camp out' by the lake. We provide a canoe and various row boats, and kayaks.
Green pond is a glacial lake with clear, clean water for swimming and non-motorized boating for your quiet enjoyment. There will be no roaring speed boats disturbing your vacation! There are two sandy beaches on the private, Candlewood Lake Estates pond where you can meet your neighbors and build sand castles ( no dogs allowed on beaches), or stay on our private beach and enjoy the absolute peace and tranquility that is Green Pond. Fishing and canoeing are favorite pastimes on the lake, and you can usually swim clear across it to the beach.
We have launch privileges and use of two beaches on the 20 mile long Candlewood lake and access to it's beaches. Our community is on the northern part of the lake, which is preferred due to that it's the less developed & natural part of the lake. It has over 180 miles of shoreline and you can navigate to various restaurants, beaches, explore islands, and visit the world famous chicken rock ('better than a water theme park' say the kids!). The entire, undeveloped, Green Mountain is immediately behind the cabin, and there are plenty of hiking trails where you find deer, rabbits and turkey. The views are fantastic!
You can find more pictures on Pinterest, Sherwood cabin on Candlewood Lake Estates. We have a pontoon boat available for qualified guests on Candlewood lake, and canoes, rowboats available at the cabin. Hot tub, fire pit off the bbq deck adjacent to the house.
Our mom designed and had this beautiful log cabin built over 50 years ago! This place is dear to us, and I am sure your family will love it also. She is an artist and avid antiques collector and has spent many years putting together a piece of paradise.

Complete privacy. This property is on over two acres of land. There is nothing built on top of Green Mountain, and only a handful of homes on the east side of the lake. It's all yours for long walks and spectacular scenery. Deer and turkey routinely come to visit, along with song birds, hummingbirds, and a family of chipmunks that are grateful for any leftover greens thrown over the side of the porch. Sunset views over the lake are breathtaking! The serene beauty of the forests and lakes is surprising, as it is only 90 minutes to Manhattan, and a little under and hour by train. Day trips to museums, Broadway shows, and sightseeing in New York City are a breeze.
Log cabins have a special charm and warmth that is unsurpassed. Whether you want a summer rental with all the fun, sun, & water sports, a romantic New England getaway in the fall to see the foliage & do the wine trail, or a winter wonderland & special holiday family reunion, this cabin has great ambiance, comfort, and all the peaceful rest you could imagine!
For our 45 wedding anniversary with our family! From gold finches and hummingbirds to seeing my mom's favorite cookbook (Elegant but Easy) it was a perfect week.
The home is well maintained and has many interesting collectibles and attractive rustic decor. You really feel like you have stepped away from it all. Having my coffee in the morning on the porch overlooking the pond, watching hummingbirds at the feeder, was just wonderful. The pond is very clean and was a delight to swim in. There are many different attractions close by, but you may just want to stay and relax all day at the house! I'm not sure it is a great house for toddlers because the porch is high up and could be a hazard. The steps down to the pond are steep. Fortunately there is a mini fridge down by the pond so we kept cool drinks there and stayed at the water for a good while. There are several different gathering areas up by the house and down by the pond. All were great for relaxing and socializing.
This beautiful cottage in the woods is the perfect blend of rustic and comfortable. Reading on the porch, relaxing in the hot tub, or enjoying a crackling fire,--all made for a wonderful getaway experience. The pond was perfect for rowing, sailing and swimming. One caution note for the less than fit guest was that the path between cottage and pond is pretty steep.
This house if full of character, charm and warmth, like a home away from home. We had a perfectly relaxing get away and can't wait to get back. The pictures posted are an accurate representation, but it's even better in person. The owner kindly decorated for the winter holidays which made it even more charming and special. Even though it was too cold to enjoy the lake/pond, we took many walks around it.
In the town of Sherman, Ct. Beautiful countryside 90 minutes from New York City. Truly the best of both worlds. Incredible views, activities, and quaint villages for antiquing! Best open air market in New England, the Elephants Trunk, is 2 miles away!!! From the toddlers to grandpa, everyone loves this place! Kent falls state park, river rafting on the Farmington River, fly fishing on the Housatonic, within a mile of the Appalachian Trail, and the world famous Chicken rock on Candlewood Lake are all right here (You Tube it!). Weekend in the fall on the Ct. Wine trail (2 miles away) while you take a drive along the scenic roads along the Housatonic River, then come home to a comfortable, story book log cabin for dinner and a warm fire.
New Milford is just down the mountain, with every restaurant, convenience & dept. store, movie theater, etc...
Easy access to New York City with the Metro North Wassaic line in Pauling, New York, just a 20 minute car ride away. Great for day trips to museums, shopping, shows...driving time from Manhattan is less than 90 minutes. Over 20 miles of lake for boating enthusiasts.
