Great time at the River's Edge.

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time at the River's Edge. The house was great with a wonderful way to have the children sleep and play downstairs. There were lots of rooms to spread out in and some quiet places.

The deck, kayaks, and crabbing equipment were wonderful.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful home. When the sun comes up it the morning, it looks just like the picture.

An added surprise was the spotting of bald eagles. Everyone loved this!

We just lucked out

  • 3 of 5

The overall impression of the home is it is beautiful. The first impression when you walk through the front door is WOW! This place is beautiful! The main area in the basement needs to be renovated, but you can tell the home owners are working really hard to update the home. I'm sure that's just the only room that is left. However, we ran into a multitude of issues which I will not leave on this review because it is embarrassing for the home owner. I'm sure at this point the issues we ran into are resolved anyway. My best advice is that, if you get there and find issues, let the home owner know immediately instead of waiting until the end of your stay. The home owner will do her best to resolve those issues asap.

Owner's Response: This guest reported a very unusual issue when she checked in but refused to allow us access to check out alleged issue and remediate. Then, at the end of stay, delivered a laundry list of "problems" (no notice). They left my house dirty, furniture in disarray, food and dirty dishes in kitchen. Upon departure, immediate inspection reveals no evidence of their complaints. Now here's the a-ha moment -- after checkout they send me an email demanding money.... Guests who have since stayed have loved the house with nothing but good feedback.

Memorable family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We spent the week with our family & had perfect weather the entire time. The quiet tranquility was so enjoyable. We loved relaxing, fishing, crabbing, swimming & kayaking from the pier. We took a ferry to Tangier Island, rented a sail boat, enjoyed time playing games, watching movies & sitting around the fire pit roasting s'mores. A memoriable vacation all around.

Immaculate house

  • 5 of 5

We found River's Edge Retreat to be exactly as advertised - a great waterfront location for a family gathering. The house has been carefully updated and is very attractive. We had all the cooking and recreation supplies needed, and luckily the weather was perfect for outdoor dining on the large deck. We enjoyed using the kayaks, crab pots and fishing gear.

Sibling Reunion

  • 5 of 5

We returned home yesterday, all of us exhausted. Lets just say that while inside - no one was ready to leave, but doing outside activities - the heat was too much for some. Our group ranged from mid 50's to late 60's and I think we chose the hottest time of the year.

The water views from both inside and out were fantastic but the jelly fish prevented us from attempting to float or swim.

We all enjoyed the trip to Tangier Island and marveled at their way of life which we enjoyed from our bikes (we arrived early and our bikes were quickly boarded) and golf carts rented on the island. Suggestion, Sunday is not the best day to visit the island as a lot of shops and restaurants were closed). We visited KC Crab and Cue - where the guys had a great time playing pool and the girls got away to do some local shopping and visit the Dog and Oyster Winery where we had a fantastic personal tasting. We walked Hughllet Point Preserve until it got tooooo hot and it looked like the tide was coming in. We had a fantastic meal at Merrior's Restaurant, outoors!! (beautiful waterfront setting) We saw Reedsville from the car and were given more information while on the ferry boat to Tangier. Loved how the Caption on the boat had a sense of humor and played the music from the Titantic Theme song "My Heart Will Go On" at "appropriate" times on this trip :) Lunch at the Crazy Crab, right on the water in Reedsville served a really good meal.

Your place was beautiful, comfortable and we all enjoyed ourselves. Thanks again for sharing your vacation home!!

Beautiful Home in The Northern Neck

  • 4 of 5

My extended family vacationed for a week at the Cunningham's lovely home. We enjoyed the beautiful view, and brought our boat for exploring the river. We had a fire in the fire pit one evening and enjoyed the deck and the dock all week. We had no luck with fishing and caught only a few small crabs off the dock. But we purchased wonderful steamed crabs from Cockrell's Creek and had a great feast. We had a fun dinner out at the Crazy Crab, and a lovely dinner at Tommy's. Linda was very accommodating and helpful throughout the week. We would like to come again one day.
