Guestbook comments from the owner

The children enjoyed playing in the garden and taking in the fresh air. A home away from home in the perfect setting. Thank you for a great stay and making the holiday unforgetable. We will miss the greenery and the British fresh air and outdoors, upon our return to sunny Dubai.

Not to worry............we will be back soon.

Many thanks and our warmest regards.

Excellent holiday base

  • 5 of 5

Vinces Barn was the perfect base for our group of 8 friends over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Being a converted barn, it is very spacious—apart from the bedrooms, common areas include a large living room, two indoor dining areas, an outdoor patio with furniture and BBQ, and a lovely garden. Everything was clean and comfortable, and the farm-fresh eggs were a nice touch. The location is great for exploring nearby attractions such as Dedham Water, Flatford Mill, and the seaside at Brightlingsea. Questions for the owner were answered in full beforehand, and the property description listed here is very accurate.

The only difficulty we had was finding the property the first time. To reach the barn, it is best to follow the signs on the road for ‘Landbase Farm’ and Chickens/Eggs. Some of us followed the signs for ‘Vinces Farm’, which is a different property. Vinces Barn is the next driveway over (to the south), and the sign for the barn itself is very small and hard to spot. Once we knew which driveway it was, it was easy enough to find.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, it was so nice having you to stay. Noted your comments on finding Vinces Barn, it is a bit tucked away which is why we like the location so much. We will make sure all guests are given the Landbase Poultry information to find it easily. We look forward to welcoming you again very soon.

Comfortable, spacious, friendly; beautiful garden

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 2 weeks and really enjoyed it. The barn is beautifully restored, comfortable and very spacious, clean and well-maintained, with a lovely garden. The owner was helpful and provided good service. Convenient location: peaceful and secluded but with easy access to shopping, facilities, pretty villages, great country pubs, and lots of other attractions. The surrounding area (Constable country) is gorgeous.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your positive feedback and so glad you enjoyed your stay at Vinces Barn. We are very lucky to have Constable Countryside just a few minutes down the road and be based in a quiet village but still with very easy access to the coast, Colchester and Ipswich are both close by and a good rail link into London from either Colchester or Manningtree station both of which are also close by. We are always more than happy to give recommendations for the local area and there are indeed some great country pubs in the surrounding villages, too many choose from!

Amazing Family Summer !!

  • 4 of 5

I have been meaning to write this review for months. Firstly i would to thank Mr & Mrs Creswell for their hospitality. We had a fantastic summer! My family and I spent 4 relaxing weeks at Vinces Barn during the summer 2013. Our group was made up of 3 adults and 3 children. There was plenty of space and a wonderful garden for the children to play in. The property was well maintained with a complete and equipped kitchen. We absolutely loved the spacious living area that opened out to the garden. We visited Dedham and many neighboring areas. Colchester town was only a 15 minute drive away. A great location for a family break, cant wait to stay again!!

Barn rental Christmas 2011

  • 1 of 5

We stayed at the property over the 2011 Christmas period. It was pretty cold then and we had no control over the heat as it was in a locked cupboard only accessible by the owners. While we managed to negotiate some extra time that the heat was on, it wasn't quite enough so we felt cold.

There were at least 2 occasions that the owners entered the property without our permission during our stay. Once was on Christmas morning while we were opening gifts as a family - the owner just walked right on in without even knocking.

The place wasn't that clean - abundant cobwebs and mouse traps left in the kitchen cupboards.

If you can put up with all the above the property has a nice lay out for an extended family and could accommodate a large gathering for a meal. The intrusion on our privacy was too much for us though and we won't be going back.

Owner's Response: We regret to hear about the issues with your stay last year and apologise for any inconvenience you may have experienced. The heating is indeed on a timer and can be adjusted on request to best suit the guests’ individual needs. We regret your stay wasn’t as enjoyable as you were expecting; as you can tell from other feedback, the majority of our guests enjoy the experience of staying on our small holding and are more than happy to stay again.

With easy access to road and rail links to London (60 mins), it also offers an ideal base for visiting the capital.

The historic villages and towns in East Anglia such as Lavenham, Cambridge, Newmarket racecourse and Bury St Edmunds are all within driving distance.

Frinton and Clacton beaches, award winning Colchester Zoo, Beth Chatto Gardens and Jimmys Farm are all close by.
