Paradise is BEACHFRONT on the Northeast Shore/Ka‘a’awa
This is Hawaii as you dreamed… this spectacular oceanfront Polynesian cottage must be seen to be believed. Located between Turtle Bay Resort and Kaneohe Bay on the northeast shore of Oahu this stretch of pristine white sand beach is enfolded in the arms of the Koolau Mountain range, and stretches 300 feet before you reach another home.
This home was completely rebuilt, a beautifully appointed one bedroom, one bath plantation style home features a sliding, stacking door system that opens the front of the home to the dining deck that is inches from the sea. The tropical living area is enhanced by an attractive woven bamboo ceiling and ceiling fans. Take a moonlight swim and shower in comfort in our outdoor hot water shower, under the stars.
There is one double pune'e (Hawaiian style sofa/sleeping daybed) and a single pune'e in the living area, and a king in the bedroom complete with feather bed for maximum comfort.
All linens for the kitchen, bedroom, bath and beach are supplied as well as a nice compliment of amenities. There is a separate laundry room with a washer/dryer on the property for your use.
The fully equipped kitchen has beautiful granite countertops, nice appliances, and is fully stocked with cooking, serving and kitchen aids as well as spices and general use refrigerator items.
The view from the deck is a sight to behold through the coconut trees to one of Oahu’s most identifiable historic landmarks, Chinaman’s Hat Island. This site is where the great Polynesian Voyaging canoe, Hokule'a, was first launched in 1976, proving that the Polynesians did indeed navigate by the stars from the South Pacific, first reaching the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) from over 2400 miles around 400 AD.
It is customary for Hawaiian Warriors to dip their oars when passing their Ali'i (kings) buried high above in the magnificent K'o'olau Mountains.
The beach stretches the length of a football field in one direction and in the other you can walk several miles through Kualoa State Park to the site of a huge ancient Hawaiian fishpond. Watch spectacular sunrises from the deck, sunbathe on the beach or watch the divers and fishermen and perhaps try your hand at “catching dinner local style”. You can see turtles, rays and the occasional surfer from the deck or snorkel in our coral preserve.
Right in front of the house is a lovely 'menehune' fish pond which is a delight to everyone, especially to the little ones at low tide.
The atmosphere is country, but you are close to restaurants and conveniences, and 30 minutes from Honolulu. Located minutes away from world famous North Shore attractions such as the Hauula hiking trails, the Polynesian Cultural Center, Turtle Bay Resort and Golf Course, Sunset Beach, Waimea Bay and some of the last unspoiled Hawaiian style towns on Oahu. A little inside information for you golfers … the nearby Kuhuku Golf Course where half the holes on this municipal course have an ocean view starts at $20 for green fees and it goes down from there!
Directly across the street is the 4,000 acre, magnificent Kualoa horse ranch offering ziplining, horseback trail rides, jungle tours ,movie set tours, catamaran rides and Paniolo (Hawaiian) BBQ’s, or just visit the beautiful horses at your back door. The ranch has been the site of many movies including 'Jurrasic Park' and 'King Kong' and Lost.
As with many oceanfront homes, the road that circles the island is located behind the house and may provide some traffic noise at different times of the day. We apologize but PARADISE IS PARADISE and lives in the hearts and minds of all of you who have a dream...
Please note: while we try to schedule the gardener between guests, we are often booked solid and unable to do so; please excuse the gardener if he has to do the yard while you are there. He will aim to work while you are out for the day. Mahalo for your understanding.
E KOMO MAI (You're welcome) We look forward to seeing you soon...

I am a Keiki O Ka Aina, translated as a child of this land as my ancestories migrated here from the South Pacific centries ago and became the first native people. I have a history with this unimaginably beautiful site as my Grandfather and Great grandfather before him fished here.
The feeling of PARADISE is ohana(family)beauty, music and warmth. You will almost be able to hear the sounds of my Hawaiian trio, KUALOA (the name for this area) as we play music by the sea. You will relax, be refreshed and feel you belong here and never want to leave. Coming back will feel like coming home... E Komo Mai (Welcome)
Shelley Muneoka purchased this house in 2005
I was driving around the island with visitors and we spotted a 'For Sale' sign on the beach. ...ONE STEP on the sand and we were awestruck by the incredible beauty of KUALOA!
The sacred legend of these mountains... Hawaiian warriors always tip their paddles as they go by KUALOA as this is where their great chiefs (Ali'i) are buried.
THIS IS THE PLACE, PARADISE!
PARADISE is located almost exactly in the center of the island, and although you are close to stores, restaurants, Kaneohe town and all the creature comforts, you are across the street from Kualoa Ranch, a 4,000 acre working cattle and excursion ranch.
K'a'a'awa is 'being in the country' for 'locals' because it has that special relaxed Hawaiian feeling. You can easily reach almost anywhere on the island from PARADISE as it is about halfway between the North Shore and Waikiki. Guests say that they have to force themselves to get out and see the sights because nothing compares to their experience in PARADISE!
What a great house! I love the folding doors so much I sleep in the living room - the better to see and smell the ocean. I had my best snorkeling out front- beautiful corrals, colorful fish and very impressive turtles. Peter
You have an excellent library...I enjoyed reading the nevel "Ka'a'awa"l
We arrived on the evening of January 4th and left on January the 18th. It was our 40th anniversary on the 7th and we absolutely enjoyed our stay in the little cottage. Everything was as advertised including the awesome views. The cottage was just the right size for my wife and I as we spend about half of our time sight seeing and the other half at the cottage. The only three negatives that I would mention is that the weather was great the first few days, but it did warm up for a few days. There is no air conditioning in the cottage, but there was a good breeze. The breeze however didn't cool it down as much as we would have liked during the late afternoons and evenings. It's a must to sleep with the windows open in order to get the breeze through the house. Also, there's a security system in the house, but it wasn't activated. Because the cottage is so close to the beach, literally 20', there are plenty of people walking/fishing up and down the beach. While we were away, it would have been very easy for anyone to get into the house without the alarm going off. Lastly, none of the windows really have any shades that prevent someone from looking into the cottage, especially at night. Good privacy shades would be very nice to have in the cottage.
Thank you for a great stay in your cottage. We would definitely come again in the future. The Northshore has so much less traffic than Honolulu or Waikiki.
Please read! Reason I didn't give it 5 stars. If it was just my husband and I, it would be a 5 STAR. Here's why:
Ok, the traffic. Yes it's noisy at night. But only if your sleeping on the sofa bed. We traveled with two teenagers so we needed to use it. Because my daughter and I like to sleep with a tv (only in the living area) we slept on the sofa bed. Having the windows open at night, which was needed, let in the noise from the road. But my son and husband never heard anything but waves from the bedroom. Also keep in mind we drove a large portion of the coast and this highway is behind most of these homes. We never noticed the noise during the day.
The view is spectacular!! The water is a little rocky here so bring water shoes. One of our favorite things to do was explore a little "rock pool" in front of the house.
The house was clean and furniture was fine. Shower head needs to be replaced if it hasn't already. But I'm a germaphobe and I was comfortable here. It did take me a day to get over the geckos in the house;)
So lucky to be able to stay at Paradise again (3rd time) at the end of a 6 week trip across the USA. It was just what we needed after seeing a huge number of family and friends on a trip that had been delayed for some years. We simply relaxed, swam, rested, slept and thoroughly enjoyed being here again! Its proximity to the ocean, its privacy and its lovely open views are magnificent. I can never find anything to complain about here, but this time I have to say the turtles were a little noisy as they swam by early in the mornin!. We absolutely love it - geckos and all. They are a delight! Every need was provided for in the well equipped home and we left in much better condition than we arrived, which is after all, what a Hawaiian vacation should do!
It really doesn't get any better than this! Upon arrival, we were struck by the beauty of this property. The photos are beautiful, but nothing can prepare you for the real thing.
There are sandy beaches on both sides of the property, literally steps to the ocean. Beautiful waters with gentle waves make this a great place for all ages!!! Two large grassy lawn areas make it easy to find the perfect amount of sun/shade at all times. Even the outdoor shower has views of both mountains and ocean!!!
We expected moderate noise, but We did not even notice the traffic noise, even with the windows open.
Cleanliness is really important to us and the cottage exceeded our expectations. The attention to detail and focus on comfort are evident in every nook and cranny. The owner has literally anticipated every possible guest need!
I normally try to avoid bringing personal taste into reviews but I feel the need to weigh in due to one former reviewers highly critical and inaccurate assessments of what she deemed to be shoddy furnishings.
The linens are clearly high quality, soft in the way only luxury linens wear. Rest assured, furniture bore no resemblance to "a horses back!?" Furnishings were chosen to invite relaxation and make a comfortable transition from the outdoors- truly what you would hope to find at any true beach house. The floors are beautiful and (it's worth mentioning) quite similar to the painted floors in Martha Stewart's Hamptons beach house.
All in all an amazing value. Better than described and one of the most relaxing vacations ever. We will be back soon.
This place was truly paradise! A couple of friends and I stayed here recently and it was such a wonderful experience. It was a true Hawaiian Beach House, exactly what you would expect, except better! This house has amazing natural light flowing in, the sunrise is a truly beautiful sight to see, it has an ocean-sweet, cool breeze that is better than any air conditioner could provide. All the beds were comfortable, the house was clean, and the sights were to die for! This place felt like home during our stay and we thank Shelly and Hana, so much for making this dream come true for us!
While the Highway is located next to the house, the traffic sounds were barely audible, if audible at all, and it makes it easy to find the house and venture out during the day, if you wanted to, which we didn't! There is yard space on the sides of the house which were comfortable places to lounge and hang. There were two chickens, which we named, Ruby and Chica. Not to mention, the outside shower with cold and hot water! We couldn’t stay out of it!
You can see Chinaman’s Hat from the house, the Ko'olau Mountains sit directly behind the house. And the Kualoa Ranch is right across the street! Best part, the ocean is literally right there! We played in the water for hours during our stay. And in the evenings we could spot Turtles swimming a little way out!
When it came time to leave, we were terribly sad to leave this peace of paradise, but glad that many other people could go and enjoy it. I will definitely stay here again, next time I go back to Oahu!
This was our first VRBO booking. What a disaster. I did not sleep much for the first 3 nights. I had earplugs AND noise cancelling headphones. The traffic 24 hour noise was unbearable. We had to leave and get a hotel by Poly Cultural Ctr for 2 nights. Thank God it was available. The hotel added to our cost and put us 25 minutes away from the friends we were visiting in Kaaawa. The VRBO listing is VERY euphemistically written. Furnishings - cheap. The single bed was swayed like a horse's back. Photos on website must be from when the last improvements were made. Linens old. Grill unusable. Floor in need of paint or rugs. Only one strange chair for sitting in in the living room. It was clean. It was on the ocean. We are so disappointed that the noise was not revealed beforehand - of course not. No one would rent it. Other complexes list "Construction noise" which gives us the choice to book it or not. These things should have been revealed. Blinds cheap- matchstick so thin the car lights shine through them. We did not contact the owner to make adjustments because what was needed was dbl paned windows and room darkening blinds. No way they could have done that in 5 days. Property manager, Shelley, was just wonderful. Brought us an ice pack after a fall on the dark driveway. We had friends who stayed here years ago and we are now realizing traffic must have increased substantially since then and our friends are pretty old and probably could not hear the traffic. It should have been honestly revealed, not just a side mention.
Beautiful Kualoa Ranch is located on 4,000 acres directly
across from the cottage. There are a myriad of activities to include horseback riding, ATV tours, bus movie set tours, restaurant and much more!
Journey to the Valley of the Temples and see the Buddhist temple and environs.
Drive 2 miles to Kualoa Park and walk to the ancient
Hawaiian Fish Pond and see Secret Beach.
