Parents with small children will LOVE the gated, covered, wrap-around deck, as will dog owners (Pet fee $35 ). Rain or shine, the views are incredible!
The initial VRBO posted rate is based on 6 guests; your online inquiry will generate 'estimated' totals for parties of 6 or more. Note: 2-5 guests will need the owners to quote as the rates will be less per night.

About our home:
This beautiful spacious home features an open floor plan & includes updates like granite countertops & hardwood flooring! Our full basement includes a private, spacious bedroom with ensuite bathroom.
There are wonderful long range layered mountain views from the deck, upstairs balcony & from inside the living room.
Kids of all ages love our themed bedrooms! Wilderness abounds here in Deer Crossing & we celebrate the animals that frequent the Blue Ridge area!

Our home is decorated with cabin & mountain/woods themed art & several antiques. The large antique dining table has several leaves, allowing it to seat 1-8 comfortably. We have extra folding tables & chairs in the basement. What's not to like with fabulous views & wonderful breezes, room for everyone to enjoy themselves!
We have 4 spacious bedrooms: the 2 upstairs bedrooms each has its own balcony, two double beds & share one bathroom. The Master & basement bedroom each have a queen bed & an ensuite bathroom. All linens & towels are provided for your visit. The master will be made up for you, the remaining sheets will be left out for you to choose the bed/room that suits you!
You will enjoy preparing meals in our well equipped kitchen. Our huge gas grill is on the basement level under the main deck. Everything you need is at hand! For those not helping in meal preparation, there is high speed internet WIFI, DVDs, Pool table, Darts & Foosball. If you have a laptop with a Netflix account, you'll have no trouble downloading, we have high speed internet. Our home has plenty of places to read or play games. The PC in the master bedroom plays CD/DVDs or games & has great speakers!
After a day of hiking, you might want to wash your duds then play a rousing game of Pool, Darts or Foosball. For the family that enjoys various activities, we have 4 DVD players (main floor master bedroom, living room, Bear room & basement bedroom).
Later, watch Satellite TV, or a DVD. For that romantic touch, turn on the fireplace with the remote; watch the flames & pulsating embers while enjoying the long range layered mountain views.
In the mountains, cell phone coverage is spotty, especially traveling the Parkway but texting works. Keep this in mind while away from the home. At the home, we have a Verizon network extender. Other cell phones may work at the top of the hill just past our property & some have had 4 bar service on our back deck. We also have free local & long distance (US) calling. Texting will work for any phone anywhere.
This home is great for reading & relaxing. It is so quiet & peaceful. Or just sit & do nothing on one of the 4 swings on the covered, gated, wrap around deck.
Outside the home, you'll find a reflection bench & a swing surrounded by daffodils (in season) that has long range views. There is a fenced dog run that can accommodate your favorite pooches. This secluded home has irises, mountain laurel & rhododendrons. We also have a wonderful firepit on the basement level!
The night time views are spectacular; the stars seem so close you think you can touch them.
The Cabin is situated in the gated Deer Crossing Community, just off of State maintained Sampson Road, near the Watauga & Wilkes county lines.

2 routes to 321 (Blowing Rock or Boone):
a) Right out of Deer Crossing
b) Sampson to the Parkway (right on parkway)
c) Left on Aho which dead ends on 321 (left to BR, right to Boone)
Notes: State road Sampson had 6 mi gravel, but now 1.75 miles is 2 lane paved & the views are incredible! Trip time for the 6 miles is 18-20 minutes & getting quicker as they complete more road work. Benefits of taking this route include quicker travel time to attractions, outstanding views & wildlife sightings.
2) For those who prefer Minimum gravel:
a) Take Sampson (turn left out of Deer Crossing) to Elk Creek road (right on Elk Creek)
b) Then take Buffalo Cove road to highway 268, then to 321. Benefits include mostly paved roads except for 2.5 miles down Sampson; trip is longer to reach attractions. Once the deposit is paid, you will receive directions & info on local amenities/attractions & loads of information about the home. Check the local attractions document & plan your days.
The property is wooded & nature is a few feet away. The community is great for walking. If you are hiking wooded paths, wear long pants & before coming into the home, brush them off & park muddy boots outside the door. The wet shoe/boot tray is just inside the door.
Our guests do spelunking at Linville Caverns, hike, bird watch & boat at Julian Price Lake just off the Parkway, white water raft at Wahoo, bike on Railroad Grade rd then tube at Todd while others do trout fishing or horseback riding at Leatherwood. Guests say Wilson Creek is good for canoeing & hiking; excellent swimming is at Elk River Falls. There are directions to these locations in the white binder inside the home.
The Blue Ridge Parkway area has many less traveled hiking locations. We have several hiking books (return to the home after use) with directions & route info!
If you want to go to NC gem mining we have directions to many places in the white binder.
Bring your cycling, canoeing or fishing gear, the pull through drive way accommodates 5 or more cars, or car & trailer (motorcycle, canoe).
We have multiple bird feeders. When you're out, grab a bag of bird food! If you fill the feeders, they will come! During the hot months, we have sugar for making Hummingbird food. Extra hummingbird feeders are located under the deck next to stairs to the basement level.
You will love your day trip to laid back Blowing Rock, Kilwins ice cream shop is a must do, as is Tweetsie for the kids (April-Nov). Boone is famous for App state & Mast General Store, plus Daniel Boone Inn, where the food is terrific! If out food shopping, use the Styrofoam coolers we have in the laundry room. The coolers also come in handy on a day trip, to keep sandwiches & drinks cool. If you need to, you can take one of the coolers home with you.
Note: you do not need 4WD/AWD to get to the home or into Boone/BR April-November.
Stays of December thru end of March, 4WD or AWD is best in snowy weather. In the winter, be sure you have ample provisions with you on arrival, if heavy snows fall, you might need to wait a day for snow to melt/clear/get plowed. Snow often melts faster than plows travel at this altitude! Note that sections of the parkway are closed in winter, but Aho can be used to get to 321 just off the parkway.
Pets: We ask guests with dogs to use our pet sheets to cover furniture & bedding. This helps keep hair & dander from furniture fabric, bedding & throws.

When counting your guests for a quote, include children & anyone you might invite during your stay. We will add 10$ per night for each additional guest. Children using pack&play stay free.
Cleaning fees cover dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing, washing towels & linens, setting out renter geared supplies for your visit & also covers the pickup/transport of garbage & recycling to comply with the county’s refuse/recycling laws.
Note: guests staying a week or more are asked to take some garbage/recycling to the Buffalo Cove Convenience center if you overflow any containers during your visit.

We chose this property because it accommodated both our interests! For my husband, the proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway and all the cycling opportunities it offered, the cooler temps of the mountains and the ability to keep my horse at the property and sometimes trailer the 6.1 miles to Leatherwood for a day of riding. Plus we really love the mountain area. The photo shown here is of a day trip we took to Elk Knob. Elk Knob has a 1.9 mile hiking path to the heavens with heavenly views!
What makes this Cabin unique
The biggest benefit of this home is that it is secluded, quiet & peaceful, yet close enough to visit all the fun of the Blue Ridge and other tourist destinations! The home has wonderful mountain views, is spacious enough for the whole family so that everyone can do what they please without impacting the others. Another sensational feature of the home is the gated wrap around deck. There are 4 swings that allow you to take in the views and enjoy the breezes. A favorite is the upstairs bedrooms with private decking. Grab a folding chair from the master closet or one of our white plastic chairs and sit and read on your own private deck. Or, gaze out at the long range views from the upstairs back bedroom. The main floor master has access to the deck and has an ensuite bathroom. The basement bedroom has an ensuite bathroom, and is private. Home includes washer and dryer. The views can be shared from the living room with a french door leading to the deck. With all the windows open, there is rarely a day you need to turn on the AC, but it is at the ready. The home has a wonderful wood stove in the basement and a wall heater, plus an extra refrigerator. The fenced in area will accommodate your favorite pooch!

Very spacious home, close to Parkway
We were very happy with the amount of room in the house and on the porches. The Blue Ridge Parkway is not far away that provided many hiking options.
Thanks! We have enjoyed many hikes along the parkway. These were less traveled trails and we were able to see more of nature than the more popular trails. Hours of enjoyment on the trails and back at the home!

Very well kept spacious home . Loads of room for everyone. A nice pool table on the first floor. 2 bedrooms on the top floor, 1 bedroom on the main floor, and a 4th bedroom on the bottom floor. As is typical of mountain top homes, the ride on the dirt/gravel road was a bit of an adventure. It's a shame that the neighbor homes on each side are so close, sometimes mountain homes are very private, but the homes on both side were very close by, like in the suburbs. The owners gave us very detailed information anticipating any question we could have. Their directions were very helpful. I give it 5 stars. We had a great time and had no problems.

Really enjoyed our stay!
We stayed here for a couple of nights. The place is really nice. My family really enjoyed the cabin. It's just the getting to the cabin that's a bit much. It's on a gravel road and kind of off the map. But if you're into that kind of thing, then this is the cabin for you. Just make sure you have everything you need especially items such as food before you make your way to the cabin because it'll take some time to get to the nearest grocery store or Walmart. However, she does have pretty much everything you will need besides food to eat. The owner, Mary, is really nice and helpful. She'll give you a detailed list of what she has at the cabin, how to operate things, and different routes to getting to the cabin. Overall, it's a really nice cabin and it was the best bang for our buck. Thanks

This is the perfect get away for a relaxing vacation of the beaten path. The house is wonderful and is furnished very nicely with everything you need. We loved our time here and the views are amazing. I would definitely recommend this place.

There is approximately 3 miles of gravel road if coming from the east. The road to Boone/Blowing Rock is a combination of two lane paved and gravel road. We are in a gated community and are secluded for your privacy and star gazing enjoyment!

Note: regarding monthly rental, or, weekly rates and discounts for < 6 guests or 10+ , please ask owner for more details for your size party. Our security deposit to 175$. We now have outside security cameras and signs to help deter damage. There is no hunting or target shooting on our property so please don't bring firearms, BB guns, pellet guns etc. We have a lovely firepit, use on basement level only. This is our home, please don't leave bags of garbage next to cans on basement level or on the deck for critters to get into, we have several garbage cans on site. If you fill them up, please take a load of garbage and recycling to the Buffalo Cove center. Hours & directions in white binder. The home is set up for maximum family use. Please do not move appliances or furniture, the rooms are all large and can fit pack & plays, blow up mattresses & luggage etc. We have a dehumidifier in the basement to help keep the home fresh. Please do not unplug it or anything that is plugged into the white surge protector or the wall. To use the fridge, plug in the long green cord into the white surge protector & then close the doors. The fridge has ice and water in the door, so moving may trigger a leak, causing damage to the new flooring. Security deposit is refunded within 14 days of your departure. Once you receive notice that the refund has been started, you may get additional info by calling Home Away Payments at 1-866-210-6106. VRBO handles the money side of the rental. Our cleaning rates are low & are based on the number in your party. Please leave our home as you found it. If you make spills, clean them up.
