My father built this house in 1950, and three generations have enjoyed summers in it. We would like to share this special place with you too.
We stayed at this classic Nantucket cottage last summer, and loved it so much that we returned again this year. It is a prime location, in Monomoy, with a path that leads down to a small beach on Nantucket Harbor - with magnificent views! The cottage is spacious, and is very comfortable. The location is ideal - you can bike to town, or take the Wave bus if you are on the island without a car. It is quiet and private, with lots of towels, fresh linens, books, games, beach chairs, etc. The owner is delightful, and we are planning to rent again next summer.
This cottage is so charming, we can't wait to return! The house had everything we needed and more. The location in Monomoy is beautiful and conveniently close to town as well. We loved sunsets at the harbor beach just down the path. The owner was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. We hope to return again soon!
Truly a wonderful experience. This was our first trip to Nantucket as a family and we were impressed with the island and the house. Within second of arriving to the house we all said we should have stayed longer and how soon can we come back! Thank you for providing an affordable option on the island. The house is clean, stocked, and spacious. Perfect for a family, the set up provides plenty of privacy. The location was great, rent bikes! The owner was responsive and nice!
The house is so charming, I can't wait to go back! We had everything we needed. The house is uniquely decorated with beautiful artwork and lots of books to look at. Set in a gorgeous neighborhood with the beach a few steps away. We enjoyed every spectacular sunset at that beach. We were close enough to town to do everything there, but we felt lucky to go back to Momomoy and enjoy the peace and quiet.
We sail to Nantucket a few times each summer from Buzzards Bay, and will stay on board our sailboat in the harbor. On our last visit, we decided to try renting a house, and were lucky enough to find this great cottage in Monomoy. The cottage is older but VERY clean and comfortable, and very spacious. The location is perfect. We rented bikes and didn't have a car - rode to town, Surfside beach, Jetties beach, the Lifesaving Museum, supermarket etc. My kids (14 and 12 years old) loved the house and had no trouble riding bikes everywhere with us. Didn't miss having a car at all. Everything is an easy bike ride away. In addition, there is a harbor beach right down a path across from the house. It is about a 3-5 minute easy walk. We arrived on our own sailboat which we left in the harbor at a mooring, and used our dingy to shuttle stuff from our boat to the cottage - just rode over to the beach and walked up the path with our stuff. Very easy. We were able to anchor our dingy right off the harbor beach (Monomoy beach)
The house has lots of seating, wifi, cable, 3 TV's, and the kitchen is well-equiped. The shower is older but works fine and the house was spotless when we arrived. The beds (4 twin, and a full) were quite comfortable (I think they had memory foam mattress toppers - all the beds were good, and there were plenty of pillows). Crisp linens and plenty of towels. Two of the bedrooms have AC but we didn't need it as it gets cool at night, and there are beautiful new french doors overlooking the yard, so the living room is well ventilated (cross ventilation if you open the front door and the french doors) and has big windows and lots of light. It also has a big ceiling fan.
I would not hesitate to recommend this property - the neighborhood is one of the most desirable on the island, and it is central to everything. You can walk up to the bus at the intersection at the top of the road (probably about a half mile walk at most). We will definitely rent the house again next year if it is available. The owner was great to deal with, and takes pride in the home. It is a gem.
We recently spent some much needed R&R time at this rental and had a great time. Having grown up on the Cape, we deliberately sought something close to town by bike or very short cab ride but peaceful with room for two couples. We found that and more. The place exceeded our needs and was located on a large lot in a beautiful neighborhood. Easy access to the bikepaths. There was plenty of room for at least another couple and/or kids. The layout of the house and two bathrooms gave everyone privacy, the living room and yard were great from congregating with a glass of wine, and the bedrooms were very comfortable and had a/c.
I think this home, yard and location are wonderful, should fit most visitors' needs and hopefully I'm fortunate enough to go back soon.
Nantucket has something for everyone. There are a variety of beaches from calm to surf. The calm waters and amenities of Jetties and Children's Beach are ideal for families with small children. Those looking for more wave action will enjoy the beach at Surfside and surfing at Cisco.
The island is rich in history as it was once one of the busiest whaling seaports on the east coast. The whaling museum provides an excellent overview of this time period. Walking along Nantucket's cobbled stone streets with it's beautiful buildings takes you back to that time period.
The island has many unique and interesting shops and antique stores. When walking down Straight Wharf you can see beautiful yachts and large sailing vessels. There you can also take a nautical excursion - sailing on the Endevor, a critter cruise on the Monomy, or sport fishing on the Herbert T. You can also pick up a tour bus on this wharf.
There are numerous restaurants on Nantucket. From the very casual at Jetties Beach where you can watch the sunset, to a more formal dining at Toppers in Wauwinet or The Brant Point Grill at The White Elephant.
Whatever you choose to do on your vacation on Nantucket, I'm sure it will be enjoyable and memorable.
