About Ellen Mayes

My husband and I visit this area often and find this place to be relaxing. The people in this area are extremely nice and always wave hello.

Ellen Mayes purchased this house in 2013

Why Ellen Mayes chose Shenandoah Valley

We chose to purchase this home because it is attached to family land. This rental property gets its name from this very transaction. We are the third couple in our family to own this lovely property.

What makes this house unique

This property is surrounded by the Blue Ridge and the Massanutten Mountains. The views in this area are amazing and the property itself is peaceful and relaxing. I love visiting Luray, Va., just 10 minutes up the road to walk main street and enjoy all of the antique shops.

Delightful Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful place to relax, rejuvenate, refresh. The place is truly a home away from home! Everything is lovely--from the thick, soft towels to the well-stocked kitchen. A binder contains great information about local stuff; we had fun exploring the beautiful rural area, trying out the coffee places and restaurants (and the local grocery, which is GREAT). Comfortable seating and beds. Ellen even provided fresh cookies! :) We highly recommend this perfect get-away!!!

Perfect quiet cabin in the woods!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place to celebrate our Son's graduation from JMU. About a 30 minute drive from campus. Exactly as described, but even more secluded than I imagined. Clean, well appointed and the most well stocked rental I have ever seen. Ellen is really nice, and communicated well. There were warm cookies and S'more fixings waiting for us when we arrived. Ellen also allowed an early arrival and late departure since the cabin wasn't rented on our departure day. What a great stay, I only wish we found it earlier during our Son's time at JMU. Highly recommended.

Amazing getaway

  • 5 of 5

I can not say enough about this rental! Pictures do not begin to show the beauty at this property. The house is stocked with things you did not even know you needed or forgot. The fresh baked cookies were delicious. Everything about the stay was wonderful! We will be back. For those of you wanting to ski, the slopes are around 16 min drive away. Thank you for a relaxing getaway!

I loved the Stay

  • 5 of 5

We really had a nice time over the weekend. Neatly maintained house. Worth staying there for the vacation. Initially i was little bit hesitated that house is in hidden road, but once i go inside and checked in, we totally forgot outside world. And best thing is, Owner gave me extra time for check out even though i didnt requested for it. That made me spent extra hour on Saturday night. Thanks again. I saved this house in my favorites list.

Great house

  • 5 of 5

Two families (4 adults, 3 kids) stayed over New Year's weekend. The house was great--exactly as advertised and as other reviews indicate. Very clean and well-maintained. Great layout for families (MBR on first floor, two BR's on 2nd floor, lots of carpeted space in BRs for air mattresses and sleeping bags for kids). We did a great hike in Shenandoah NP called Stony Man (about 45 minute drive to trailhead)--would definitely recommend. And there is a nice path through the fields behind the house for a stroll as well.

As other reviewers mentioned, we were greeted with homemade cookies on arrival and the kitchen was stocked with S'mores ingredients. There is a nice fire pit in the backyard.

The house is nestled back from Rte 340 behind other houses in a wooded area, so lots of privacy.

Google Maps was not accurate with the GPS location that Ellen provided but if you google the name of the street/dirt road, it is accurate--so we didn't have any trouble finding the house.
