About Gregg Kabacinski

We have owned our cottage on Big Bear Lake for 28 years. Our family has grown over the years, so we purchased the cottage next door for extra room for family reunions. We would be very pleased to host your family and friends in our lakefront guest cottage which has its own dock, beach, fire pit, and 150 feet of private lake frontage.

Gregg Kabacinski purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Gregg Kabacinski chose Johannesburg

Big Bear Lake has a real 'up north' feel, surrounded by woods and quiet. Our 435 acre lake is crystal clear with great swimming, water skiing, boating and fishing. You will be amazed at the bald eagles and loons that frequent our lake. The loons often provide a serenade, along with the brilliance of the stars as you sit around a campfire on the beach. Oh, and don't get me going on the fishing (smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, muskie, northern pike and panfish - and I've got the pictures to prove it)!!

What makes this cottage unique

Our lakefront is the best, providing full sun on the beach all day long, and shade in the woods surrounding the cottage. Our location on the south side of the lake provides refreshing breezes and beautiful sunsets. We have 5 acres of private woods behind the cottage for children to explore, gather campfire wood, and pick blueberries. For our more adventurous guests there are thousands of acres of federal and state forests, and numerous rivers, within minutes of our cottage. The owner will provide maps and guidance upon request, or if you prefer he will share his 30 plus years of outdoors experience with a fully guided trip for spring turkey hunting, spring morel picking, and fall bird hunting for grouse and woodcock with his well trained Brittany.

A great vacation in northern Michigan

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I decided to rent this cottage at Big Bear Lake after seeing the photos and reading the reviews on VRBO. I had not been to this area for a vacation since I was a teenager in the mid-1960's. We also brought along our oldest grandson, Brandon, who lives in New Jersey and turned 17 this summer. Brandon has been vacationing with us since he was 9. We arrived at the cottage on a sunny Sunday afternoon and fell in love with it instantly! It is everything we were looking for. This is a very comfy, quiet and well-laid-out cottage with good views of the lake. There were nice breezes day and night. The new gas stove, new refrigerator and Weber gas grill were wonderful. I used my 5-hp motor on the 12-foot fishing boat and we got around the lake with no problem. The boat is a StarCraft, in excellent condition, and is rated up to a 10-hp motor. Brandon and I caught bluegill, rock bass, large- and smallmouth bass, and walleye. We may have caught more perch and pan fish if I had taken some worms. There is a good map of the lake bottom in the cottage. We also took our kayaks with us, and they were fun to paddle, and occasionally fish, close to shore. The beach is mostly sand and small gravel, and drops off very gradually as you walk out into the water. This would make it nice for parents with small children who want to play in the lake. The dock has space for a pontoon if you were to rent one. Brandon spent quite a bit of time hiking and biking the drives and trails around the lake, and also rated his week as excellent.

Overall, this was one of our best rentals ever, and my wife and I have rented quite a few across the country. We owned our own cottage in Canada for 25 years, and this Big Bear Lake cottage is on par with that! Our thanks to Gregg for a wonderful week, and we look forward to coming back soon!

Beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful cottage on Big Bear Lake. The cottage is all knotty pine, nicely decorated, well stocked and very clean. The owner Gregg is very nice and even though out of the country at the time of our stay he was very attentive. He made sure we had everything we needed. We used the boat that was available to rent which was handy. The boat is in great condition. The lake and the view was beautiful. I wound highly recommend and will definitely stay here again. Thank you Gregg for allowing others to enjoy.

Cottage Big Bear Lake

  • 5 of 5

Excellent 2 weeks were spent in this quaint cottage on beautiful Big Bear Lake. Our only complaint was the weather, but that's Michigan! Location is great for outings to the Mackinaw City or the UP. Have reserved time for summer of 2018!

amazing location for a vacation

  • 5 of 5

We found this vacation rental to be everything the advertisement and pictures indicated...and more !!! The place was very neat, tidy and had all the amenities we needed. The AC proved very helpful on a warm, muggy, summer night. The owner could not have been more accommodating and eager for us to have a nice vacation. We really enjoyed the rental of his Sea Nymph, which made fishing and those sunset evenings fun. But, the fishing was best right off the dock! The water so crystal clear you could see the fish as they were biting the hook. The sandy bottom made it a lovely lake for swimming as well. Certainly one of our best family vacations with our adult children. Thanks so much for the wonderful vacation.
