About Tammy Capps

Tammy is from North Carolina and has directed non-profit youth programs and a local Americorps program. She is currently on a sabbatical while starting a business to assist seniors in navigating the adventures of aging. Tammy has worked to be a good steward of the land, these mountains and our mother earth: growing her own fruits and vegetables, preserving them for the winter, recycling and composting all garbage, trying to reuse instead of buying new when possible. Efforts are always made to buy local and American made products. After a great deal of planning and hard work, Tammy is excited to invite you for a luxurious, romantic stay in the cabin!

Why Tammy Capps chose Asheville Area

Why the Owner Chose Asheville:

Tammy planned and renovated this cabin with her own two hands over the last twenty years, while continuing to work full-time. She started the project with the goal of renovating a cabin with a small carbon footprint and utilizing many materials from the mountain. WOW, what a project! With lots and lots of hard work and the loving support of her family the cabin is ready for guests. Why the property? Tammy spent most of her childhood in this area and fell in love with the beauty and majesty of these mountains in the Pisgah National Forest at an early age. When looking to move back to the area and purchase a home in 1991, she would only look at homes in the Candler/Upper Hominy area believing this to be the most beautiful community in the Asheville area. Twenty years ago Tammy began to clear land and landscape the 4-acre property. The project was worth it---she built a mountain oasis beyond belief.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin provides all of the modern comforts in a peaceful wooded setting at the base of Mt. Pisgah. The yearround views of the mountain through the large glass windows are spectacular. Couples can enjoy both the sunrise and the sunset over the mountain tops. The property is a certified wildlife habitat proving the four basic elements needed for wildlife to thrive: food water, cover and places to raise their young. The wooded canopy of oaks, poplar and maple cover the mountain view during the summer months, and provide cool shade for relaxing outside on the decks, gazebo or in the hammock beside the waterfall. The cabin is positioned so that passive solar assists the heating and cooling.

The Most Wonderful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We've been waiting for this escape all summer. The cabin was so inviting and comfortable - it's true, everything is there except your food and clothes. It makes you feel like you've come home. The pictures on line really don't do it justice, it is even more beautiful. Loved just walking around the property. There is just something about gardens full of flowers, hummingbirds feeding, bees buzzing, eating grapes off the vine, frogs playing in the pond, a friendly dog named Trigger keeping us company, playing Jenga on the deck as the sun goes down and the darkest most quiet nights that make you just feel so relaxed, happy and complete. We had to force ourselves to leave the peace of the cabin and grounds to roam the area - excellent breakfast and lunch at the Mt Pisgah Inn thanks to Tammy's suggestion and lots of hiking on Mt Pisgah. Thank you Tammy for this wonderful place. We loved our visit and will be returning soon!

A secluded gem in the mountains!

  • 5 of 5

This is a very cozy cabin just right for a romantic getaway! Really beautiful views and great outdoor space! The cabin itself is small but perfect for two (along with our furbabies). The grounds are just beautiful with a great deck for those mountain views. Along with a hammock, some great chairs in a grapevine covered arbor, fire pit and a great garden with fresh veggies available for your to pick and cook up there or to take with you! Everything was very clean, well maintained and in working order.

We had a fantastic stay! Its about 30 minutes from Asheville, not too bad of a drive but after a couple of days of going back and forth we opted to cancel our plans in Asheville the last night to just enjoy a quiet night in the cabin.

There are other cabins near you, but the landscape around this little cabin makes you feel very secluded. We arrived late at night so figuring out where/how to get in was a little confusing bc of the dark and we thought the entrance was below which is a room that is blocked off I guess. But that was no big deal once we figured it out.

They have thought of everything here and have some really nice little touches inside and give you some great info about some hikes right out the front door.

I spoke with Tammy before we arrived and she is very accommodating and gave us some fantastic dinner suggestions in Asheville!

We will DEFINITELY be back!

Beautiful, serene relaxation!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is a perfect place to enjoy quiet relaxation in the mountains with beautiful views. Outdoors, there are several wonderful areas to sit or lounge and take in the beauty of the surrounding nature (hammock with a butterfly bush where butterflies flew all around, swinging lounge chairs under grapevines with really good grapes to enjoy while stretching out, table with chairs overlooking mountain and pasture, chairs around the pretty fire pit to enjoy fires at night listening to the frogs and crickets, hot tub on lower deck is very relaxing after a day of adventure and hiking, table and chairs on upper deck (which is also enclosed to allow pups to remain safe) to enjoy eating outside). Inside, the cabin is beautifully decorated, very clean and is so relaxing and cozy. It had everything one might need or want to enjoy their stay here (it even already had blankets provided for the hammock and for the pups). Excellent hosts provide all the information we needed to find and utilize all the cabin amenities (information guest notebook is very helpful). Being able to bring our four legged children made our vacation perfect! Wonderful place to take a relaxing trip that can be enjoyed by staying put or exploring many of the nearby areas (Asheville, Brevard, Blue Ridge Parkway, etc.)! We look forward to getting another chance to stay here!

Absolutely perfect weeked!!

  • 5 of 5

We had planned to go out every night we were here, but the cabin was so inviting and comfortable that we decided to stay in. We had a fabulous time and do plan to come back very soon. We loved the cabin garden, the hot tub, the stunning views, and the overall feel of the cabin. It is truly a little piece of heaven that we will be coming back to enjoy again and again.

Relaxing Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a few days and absolutely loved it! There are so many incredible outdoor spaces where you can sip coffee and enjoy the view. The home itself is well-maintained, clean, and the pictures online do not do it justice. The amenities inside and outside the house are wonderful. We had a great (steep!) hike off the back of the property and enjoyed walking through the garden area to see what was growing. We wish we had a few more days to relax and enjoy the area - we will definitely be back! Thanks for a wonderful getaway.

Owner's Response: Excellent! I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay at the cabin! The garden is wonderful this time of year. The new trail to the Pisgah National Forest is steep, but definitely worth it when you tie into the other trails. Luckily, the steep part is less than a half of mile. I look forward to your return. Peace Always, Tammy

Only 16 miles from downtown Asheville, the cabin is located beside the Pisgah National Forest. Hiking trails are abundant only minutes away on the Blue Ridge Parkway. March to November you can enjoy breakfast at the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway. A favorite downtown shopping spot in Asheville, Hendersonville, and Waynseville is Mast General Store. Our favorite restaurants are the Admiral and Curate', you must make reservations early though. Other great places to dine in downtown Asheville include Limones, Salsa, Zombra, Tupelo Honey and Mela.
