About Tammy Capps

Tammy is from North Carolina and has directed non-profit youth programs and a local Americorps program. She is currently on a sabbatical while starting a business to assist seniors in navigating the adventures of aging. Tammy has worked to be a good steward of the land, these mountains and our mother earth: growing her own fruits and vegetables, preserving them for the winter, recycling and composting all garbage, trying to reuse instead of buying new when possible. Efforts are always made to buy local and American made products. After a great deal of planning and hard work, Tammy is excited to invite you for a luxurious, romantic stay in the cabin!

Why Tammy Capps chose Asheville Area

Why the Owner Chose Asheville:

Tammy planned and renovated this cabin with her own two hands over the last twenty years, while continuing to work full-time. She started the project with the goal of renovating a cabin with a small carbon footprint and utilizing many materials from the mountain. WOW, what a project! With lots and lots of hard work and the loving support of her family the cabin is ready for guests. Why the property? Tammy spent most of her childhood in this area and fell in love with the beauty and majesty of these mountains in the Pisgah National Forest at an early age. When looking to move back to the area and purchase a home in 1991, she would only look at homes in the Candler/Upper Hominy area believing this to be the most beautiful community in the Asheville area. Twenty years ago Tammy began to clear land and landscape the 4-acre property. The project was worth it---she built a mountain oasis beyond belief.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin provides all of the modern comforts in a peaceful wooded setting at the base of Mt. Pisgah. The yearround views of the mountain through the large glass windows are spectacular. Couples can enjoy both the sunrise and the sunset over the mountain tops. The property is a certified wildlife habitat proving the four basic elements needed for wildlife to thrive: food water, cover and places to raise their young. The wooded canopy of oaks, poplar and maple cover the mountain view during the summer months, and provide cool shade for relaxing outside on the decks, gazebo or in the hammock beside the waterfall. The cabin is positioned so that passive solar assists the heating and cooling.

Can't Beat the Location

  • 5 of 5

Can’t beat the location. We spent our days hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mountains-to-Sea trail, and we spent our evenings enjoying hot meals and resting our sore muscles in the hot tub while enjoying the views of the mountains we had just hiked. There were incredible views from cabin and the many outdoor spaces. The cabin was the perfect size for two, and we tried to take advantage of the many outdoor space options. Although there was nice seating inside, we ate every meal at one of the three outdoor tables. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking utensils; we lacked for nothing. There were ladybugs around the windows (our trip fell during the ladybug season), but they were harmless and not a bother.

The owner, Tammy, was very accommodating for the entire trip, and she clearly cares about the property. One of the doors in the cabin stuck; Tammy answered our call right away and a neighbor came to fix the door within minutes. The response time was incredible; it probably took less than 30 minutes from the time we noticed the door was stuck to the time that it was fixed. I felt very confident that should we have any other complaints they would be addressed quickly, but we had no other issues.

The Mountain View Cabin was perfect for enjoying the peaceful mountain setting, either in the hot tub, hammocks, the fire pit, or one of the outdoor tables. Our trip was wonderful, and we certainly did not want to leave.

Owner's Response: Thanks! I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Lady bug season is almost over and I just planted the spring garden for our guests. Hopefully, you will be able to return to the mountains again soon. Peace Always, Tammy

Absolutely Stunning

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Candler, NC was very special as it was our honeymoon. We loved the cabin. The view, décor, amenities and landscaping were fantastic. Much love was put into the cabin by it's owners and it's proximity to the Blue Ridge and Ashville was perfect. Plus, our dogs were welcomed!

Amazing get-away!

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend were very impressed from the minute we drove up to the cabin and pulled into the parking spot. It was very well maintained inside and out. The cabin is mostly private but not isolated from other cabins so it was nice to know that if anything happened help wasn't far. The area is very relaxing and beautiful and the hot tub is already set and ready to go. We were lucky to experience snow on the same night we arrived which made everything so much more fun. Gas and groceries are an easy 10 minutes away and the locals are very nice. We didn't bring anything but a few changes of clothes and had an amazing time. I don't recommend bring much more than that.

Perfect Mountain Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This was a great spot to get up and away from things for a few days and Relax. The details and care put into this retreat really do show. All of the amazing things for guests to do on the grounds are wonderful. We stayed for 3 nights in late March and everything was fantastic. We cooked our meals at the cabin and ate on the deck overlooking the mountains and the valley. (Only downside was here was we couldnt find grilling utensils, but we made it work) We also made a couple of trips into town to check out the shopping and local brewery scene. All and all a perfect mountain getaway.

Lovely wooded property with privacy

  • 4 of 5

Property is private from other cabins in the area. Beautiful outdoor space! Indoors, the cabin is lovely, but a tiny kitchen does make cooking rather difficult. Perfect for a romantic getaway, however. The hot tub is a wonderful bonus as are the swing chairs overlooking a scenic view. It was ladybug season when we stayed at the cabin, and I will admit their charm wore off quickly since they inhabit the cabin also. Still, our overall experience was a positive one, and I would recommend this escape to couples, especially for summer and fall.

Owner's Response: I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay at the cabin. The kitchen is small, but has a full size stove, fridge, microwave, and double sink. Everything is provided to make gourmet meal, including the spices. There is a coffee pot, grinder and a french press for making your morning coffee to enjoy overlooking the beautiful views. Lady bug season lasts about two weeks each year. Fortunately, the season is very short. The outside is beautiful year round. hopefully, you willbe able to return soon. Peace Always, Tammy

Only 16 miles from downtown Asheville, the cabin is located beside the Pisgah National Forest. Hiking trails are abundant only minutes away on the Blue Ridge Parkway. March to November you can enjoy breakfast at the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway. A favorite downtown shopping spot in Asheville, Hendersonville, and Waynseville is Mast General Store. Our favorite restaurants are the Admiral and Curate', you must make reservations early though. Other great places to dine in downtown Asheville include Limones, Salsa, Zombra, Tupelo Honey and Mela.
