About Tammy Capps

Tammy is from North Carolina and has directed non-profit youth programs and a local Americorps program. She is currently on a sabbatical while starting a business to assist seniors in navigating the adventures of aging. Tammy has worked to be a good steward of the land, these mountains and our mother earth: growing her own fruits and vegetables, preserving them for the winter, recycling and composting all garbage, trying to reuse instead of buying new when possible. Efforts are always made to buy local and American made products. After a great deal of planning and hard work, Tammy is excited to invite you for a luxurious, romantic stay in the cabin!

Why Tammy Capps chose Asheville Area

Why the Owner Chose Asheville:

Tammy planned and renovated this cabin with her own two hands over the last twenty years, while continuing to work full-time. She started the project with the goal of renovating a cabin with a small carbon footprint and utilizing many materials from the mountain. WOW, what a project! With lots and lots of hard work and the loving support of her family the cabin is ready for guests. Why the property? Tammy spent most of her childhood in this area and fell in love with the beauty and majesty of these mountains in the Pisgah National Forest at an early age. When looking to move back to the area and purchase a home in 1991, she would only look at homes in the Candler/Upper Hominy area believing this to be the most beautiful community in the Asheville area. Twenty years ago Tammy began to clear land and landscape the 4-acre property. The project was worth it---she built a mountain oasis beyond belief.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin provides all of the modern comforts in a peaceful wooded setting at the base of Mt. Pisgah. The yearround views of the mountain through the large glass windows are spectacular. Couples can enjoy both the sunrise and the sunset over the mountain tops. The property is a certified wildlife habitat proving the four basic elements needed for wildlife to thrive: food water, cover and places to raise their young. The wooded canopy of oaks, poplar and maple cover the mountain view during the summer months, and provide cool shade for relaxing outside on the decks, gazebo or in the hammock beside the waterfall. The cabin is positioned so that passive solar assists the heating and cooling.

Can't Beat the Location

  • 5 of 5

Can’t beat the location. We spent our days hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mountains-to-Sea trail, and we spent our evenings enjoying hot meals and resting our sore muscles in the hot tub while enjoying the views of the mountains we had just hiked. There were incredible views from cabin and the many outdoor spaces. The cabin was the perfect size for two, and we tried to take advantage of the many outdoor space options. Although there was nice seating inside, we ate every meal at one of the three outdoor tables. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking utensils; we lacked for nothing. There were ladybugs around the windows (our trip fell during the ladybug season), but they were harmless and not a bother.

The owner, Tammy, was very accommodating for the entire trip, and she clearly cares about the property. One of the doors in the cabin stuck; Tammy answered our call right away and a neighbor came to fix the door within minutes. The response time was incredible; it probably took less than 30 minutes from the time we noticed the door was stuck to the time that it was fixed. I felt very confident that should we have any other complaints they would be addressed quickly, but we had no other issues.

The Mountain View Cabin was perfect for enjoying the peaceful mountain setting, either in the hot tub, hammocks, the fire pit, or one of the outdoor tables. Our trip was wonderful, and we certainly did not want to leave.

Owner's Response: Thanks! I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Lady bug season is almost over and I just planted the spring garden for our guests. Hopefully, you will be able to return to the mountains again soon. Peace Always, Tammy

Relaxing Get Away

  • 5 of 5

I rarely post reviews but this cabin deserves praise! The photos and wonderful reviews of this cabin are an understatement. The cabin was gorgeous and the attention to detail was amazing. We enjoyed leisurely mornings waking up to mountain views and relaxing evenings sitting outside enjoying nature. I can't wait to go back in the fall to enjoy the fire pit. Downtown Asheviile is 30 minutes away so while we felt secluded an array of social activities was close by. I highly recommend a stay.

Sweet mountain cabin

  • 5 of 5

We thought it would be fun to spend a few nights in Asheville on our way to Florida and we made a great choice with this cabin.

When we walked into the cabin there was soft music playing and even an indoor fountain- it made us feel at home immediately.

Everything we needed for our three night stay was there; a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable bed, lovely dressing room- it was perfect. We ended up grilling out each night and eating out on the deck enjoying the beautiful views.

Each day we looked forward to coming "home" to our cabin after a day of hiking, tubing and sightseeing. The cabin was secluded yet was only minutes from groceries, restaurants and a 20-30 minute drive into Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway or the Biltmore Estate.

The views were spectacular and hiking trails were close by with one starting just up the drive!

The owner, Tammy, with her attention to detail, has made her cabin an enjoyable, comfortable place to stay.

Cozy space in the woods with outstanding views

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed four nights in Tammy's cabin in Candler to celebrate my 40th birthday and absolutely loved our time there. There really isn't much you need to bring other than yourself and your clothing. She even had toiletries for use. We loved how open the main room was. We wish the kitchen had more counter space but its a cabin not a full home, so we totally get it. The views are unmatched - just gorgeous, wherever we looked. I'm giving it four stars versus five because I felt the interior of the home could have been cleaner. I wiped away cobwebs in several corners inside. The surfaces, bathroom, sink in kitchen, were sparkling though. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well all nights. I would recommend getting a small nightlight for the bathroom though, as the push light on the wall had a timer on it, and if you had to get up in the night to use the bathroom, it was REALLY dark to the point where I walked into a couple pieces of furniture trying to get there. The small bedroom/dressing room was perfect for putting clothes away, getting dressed and ready for the day, etc. The hot tub is lovely, although we only used it once because even at night the weather was just too warm when we stayed (in July, so it was to be expected). We used the grill twice, with excellent results both times. We appreciated the board games, which we also played a few times. This was a kid-free trip, and so it was lovely to reconnect with my husband, and this was really a perfect place to do it. We would definitely stay there again, especially in the fall to see all the colors.

Asheville Regional Airport
Car: necessary

Only 16 miles from downtown Asheville, the cabin is located beside the Pisgah National Forest. Hiking trails are abundant only minutes away on the Blue Ridge Parkway. March to November you can enjoy breakfast at the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway. A favorite downtown shopping spot in Asheville, Hendersonville, and Waynseville is Mast General Store. Our favorite restaurants are the Admiral and Curate', you must make reservations early though. Other great places to dine in downtown Asheville include Limones, Salsa, Zombra, Tupelo Honey and Mela.
