Saint Augustine House Rental Photos and Description

3 BR / 4 BA, Sleeps 6. Rentals are strictly limited to six people.

Location, location, location, says it all. You will not find another listing this PRIVATE & QUIET on the ocean. No condo hallways, no strangers or neighbors you can hear. This house has a private walkway to spectacular Crescent Beach. You won't even see another person -- unless you want to! Then hit the beach for a swim or a walk (you can go for miles), there are restaurants and bars within walking distance, but once you're at the house you would never know it.

One of only three private houses on Crescent Beach for rent. This is the truly private getaway!

If you want, jump into the car and the world of zoo's, museums, architecture and history is yours. Dozens of parks and ecological destinations within miles. Rent a bike, board, horse or a kayak and see things from yet another angle-- but then again, it's not easy to leave that deck!

Take time to read the reviews, this house does not disappoint!

Perfect house for the Big Chill week, a family reunion, a girls get away OR a romantic honeymoon or anniversary! This is not a good house for young children in fact children under the age of eight are discouraged entirely-- there are many stairs and decks and walkways that are unsafe for children to play on.

About Ann Shakeshaft

We bought this home as a retirement property and haven't retired yet!!!! Our loss can be your gain. We have lived in NYC for 35 years and this is the only spot we could imagine giving up our beloved city for.

Ann Shakeshaft purchased this house in 2012

Why Ann Shakeshaft chose St. Augustine Area

We love to walk the beach, shelling and fishing along the way. Great food, biking, kayaking and yoga close by to keep us busy.

We are 'house people', we like to fiddle and fix and decorate. This house, aside from being on an amazing beach is very private and we have started to bring in our antiques-- making it a bit more elegant than most rental beach houses.

We also cook, and this house has a fantastic completely renovated (2016) kitchen to make great meals-- especially for a number of cooks to do their thing all at once. Buy (or catch) the fresh fish and grill it on the deck or in one of two ovens and wash it down with all the wine you can fit into the separate wine fridge-- then walk it out to the deck for a moonlit dinner!

Since the house is built into a sand dune and the views are at the top, there are a number of staircases to make all of the areas accessible. For this reason it is not a good house for very young, old or physically handicapped individuals.

The house is not childproofed. The deck, walkway and stairs all are open to dangerous drops.

What makes this house unique

The privacy is really the thing that sets our house apart from any other rental on Crescent Beach. You are not dealing with other condo renters, or even visible neighbors, this is one of a kind.

The wildlife on our little island is impressive, from the birds that fly along the beach and nest in the spring, to the dolphins and whales that you will see passing by or the turtles that nest on the beach and live in the dunes, its like living in a ecological park.

If you get tired of watching from the house the area is covered with many equally animal full parks and beaches. The Intracoastal waterway is just behind us and that has a completely different vibe-- rent a kayak and check it out when you get sick of surfing, fishing and shelling on the beach.

Second Visit - Looking forward to more

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to this Property. We took our nieces and had a wonderful time. House is clean, wonderfully decorated and roomy. Location is unbeatable - and our privacy on the beach was terrific. The view is relaxing and peaceful. We had a cute little bunny hopping around the back deck while we were there. So cute! We will definitely be returning!

Fairytale Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this property for a late summer vacation. We were looking for privacy and somewhere to enjoy without the crowds. Wow! What a wonderful surprise! We felt like we were living a fairytale. This home is warm, inviting, beautifully decorated and has everything you need. It's right on the beach, plus you can enjoy a magical view of the ocean from almost every window on the second floor. It's quite and private, but still close to plenty of restaurants and activities. Win-Win! We will definitely visit again if possible. Great kitchen too!

Best Beach Stay Ever!

  • 5 of 5

if you're looking for an incredible beach stay - this is it. A beautiful home with the most amazing view ever. The house is lovely - and the beach sublime. The private boardwalk from the house takes you directly to the beautiful St. Augustine beach - perfect in every way. Great deck for grilling and enjoying the 24/7 secluded beach view and access. The sitting room outside the master suite is perfect for viewing the sunrise and the deck has chairs for viewing the massive stars. The house itself is lovely and comfortable. Ann was great to work with and everything was even better than described. Great areas for being together and enjoying each other's company. The lack of a TV in every room we considered a plus. Nice kitchen and comfy beds. There are only queen beds - so make sure your group is good with sleeping together! The location is close to St. Augustine for wonderful sightseeing and great seafood. Plenty of parking. The deposit was promptly refunded after our departure. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful week with family!

Wonderful Family Escape

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing place to spend time reconnecting as a family. The home was beautifully appointed and conveniently located to the beach, amenities and ST. Augustine. We have stayed in many VRBO properties and this is by far the most luxurious and spacious. We will definitely return to this home and St.Augustine when our schedule allows.

Quiet retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had a beautiful week here. Great house, perfect location and it was so nice to feel "at home". Unlike staying in a condo, we had privacy, and even a welcome visit from the resident turtle looking in the back door. We are planning to come back in September. Can't wait!

Incredible Beach Views

  • 4 of 5

This home is a hidden treasure. Incredible beach views and a nature preserve (we saw turtles, rabbits, birds flying up the beach directly overhead). Plenty of room to spread out, limited number of televisions (which was nice) Our family played card games, talked after dinner and walked on the beach. Sit on the deck for cocktails in the evening, open the kitchen doors and cook a meal together. Also, close to all our favorite St. Augustine restaurants and attractions if you want a night out. We typically do a day in downtown, but didn't feel the need this time. Had all we needed for a relaxing, recharging family/friend vacation.

Spectacular Crescent Beach is just off your very private deck and out your window. All you hear is the roll of the waves as you sit watching dolphin, whale and pelicans glide by.

Although private, this house is a few minutes walk to a couple of bars and restaurants most of which serve delicious seafood and refreshing drinks while you soak up the low-key beach vibe.

St. Augustine is one of the most beautiful cities in the USA and and the oldest continuously occupied European-established settlement and port in the continental United States. Old world charm, beautiful architecture combined with restaurants, museums, shopping and a very comfortable temperature year round equal a vacation paradise.

The house is built into a sand dune and the views are at the top, there are a number of staircases to make all of the areas accessible. For this reason it is not a good house for physically handicapped individuals. Sorry. The house is not childproofed and it is not a good choice for children below the age of 13 there are places where a child could fall off very high decks or balcony's.
