Highlander Property Management
About Highlander Property Management
Owner Tom & Deanna are full time residents of Boone. Both call their hometown “America” thanks to Tom’s being a veteran (having retired as an Air Force pilot) and both with ties to the airline industry. Deanna originally hails from Louisiana and Tom from Northern California near the Oregon border. Deanna, being a professional artist, shows her hand in the design and decor of their beautiful Parkside Lodge.
Highlander Property Management purchased this House in 2015
Why Highlander Property Management chose Boone
Having grown up in the mountains, Tom knew they’d return to them one day. Deanna has always enjoyed the mountains, and on a family vacation in 2000 the couple fell in love with the area and the people. After that, it was just a matter of “when” to make the move, and their youngest daughter solved that dilemma by transferring to App State!
What makes this House unique
For Tom & Deanna, the property being on the National Park did it for them, along with that boulder!! The amazing serenity of the area, coupled with the outdoor opportunities within Twin Rivers made this a perfect spot for them.

Perfect home for extended family getaway in Boone
Deanna and Tim have done a beautiful job outfitting Parkside Lodge. It’s just perfect!
-The Watauga and Boone Fork rivers run directly through Twin Rivers, the community Parkside Lodge is in. While fishing is not allowed within the community (POA rules), just outside the community you will find exceptional fly fishing for trout in both rivers. FYI, a fishing license is required to fish the rivers here in North Carolina.
-Hiking trails exist within Twin Rivers for your use, and those trails connect with the Julian Price Park allowing you to extend your hiking experience several miles without getting into a car.
-Three miles from the Lodge, you will find the quaint area of Valle Crucis and the original Mast General Store, in operation since the mid 1800's.
-Just up the road toward Banner Elk, is the Grandfather Winery sitting alongside the Watauga River. You'll find great wines and live music there (schedule depends on the time of year).
-Many festivals take place throughout the year in Boone, Banner Elk, and Blowing Rock.
-Friday evenings during the summer you can enjoy live "music on the green" at several locations in Boone and Blowing Rock.
-Grandfather Mountain Park offers spectacular views, trails, and a nature center, home to several local species of animals and birds.
-The Tweetsie Railroad, always popular among families, is open from spring through the fall with special weekend openings during the winter as well and is located between Boone and Blowing Rock on NC-321.
-Lake Watauga is a 45 minute drive away and offers pontoon boat rentals, picnic areas, and a couple of local restaurants/bars. The lake's claim to fame is being the second cleanest lake in the United States.
-Adventure sports are available through local guides including rock climbing and white water rafting.
-Winter months offer 3 ski areas and one tubing area all within a 15-30 minute drive from the Lodge.
-App State is 15-20 minutes from the Lodge in Boone, and offers year round sports events, drama, music, festivals and literature events.
-Lees McRae College is a short 15 minutes away in Banner Elk, and offers a similar experience on a smaller scale.
The Parkside Lodge is conveniently situated in the middle of all these great events and activities. The Lodge is new (built in 2015) and luxuriously appointed. Come and enjoy the mountains with us!
