Our family with two tweens stayed for 2 weeks and did not want to leave again. The house is a period cottage but very comfortable and the glass sitting room at the back has fantastic views and space enough for dinning table and sofa. We lived there :-).
Beautiful walks, fishing, horse riding and beaches for kids and for body boarding at the door step and shops, pubs and restaurant in Belmullet.
You need a 3 mobile sim to use a mobile phone og pad in the house. Roaming does not work. Nearest place to purchase 3 sim is in Ballina - so bring one.
Owner was very helpfull with info and all.
Would gladly reccomend - and come back our self.
We has a lovely week in the Irish Cottage during the summer. The place was lovely and clean. The kitchen was very well equipped and everything worked as expected.
The sun lounge was a great place to have a warm afternoon snooze as it benefitted from amazing sun in the afternoons.
Lots of lovely country and beach walks in the area and very friendly animals. We had a few sheep dogs follow us on our long walks.
Great place to do watersports like kitesurfing or windsurfing.
There's an open fire for colder evenings too, but if that isn't of interest it has great central heating too.
In the town there are a couple of nice Irish pubs that serve good Guinness and have a bit of live music from time to time. Everyone was very friendly.
The Erris Peninsula is an area of unspoiled natural beauty with fantastic Blue Flag golden sandy beaches. The latest attraction is an 18-hole championship links golf course at Carn, west of Belmullet. The Peninsula is about 33 km in length and 12 km wide at the widest points, narrowing to about 400 metres in the region of Elly Bay popular for Wind and Kite Surfing .The trip from Belmullet to Blacksod Point (21 km) gives a good understanding of the nature of the Peninsula: its west coast, exposed to the Atlantic Surf, while the east overlooks the inlet of Blacksod Bay with views to Achill Island. The bay is a popular diving spot for ship wrecks from and annual Sea-Angling Championship with over 200 different species of fish. The islands of Inishkea are well-known bird sanctuaries and boat trips can be arranged locally. The Mullet Peninsula is a Gaeltacht area where the Irish Language is still spoken and provide a rich heritage of traditional music, song and dance in local Bars.
