Boston House Boat Rental Photos and Description

Fully Furnished Houseboat For A Perfect Self Catering Holiday!

Experience Boston from the unique perspective of your own floating house! Nestled in a protected marina in Boston Harbor, our houseboat is fully equipped with all the comforts and amenities of home!

There is a master stateroom with a queen bed, two twin beds in a sleeping loft and a queen sized sofa bed for the living room. Additionally there is a full kitchen with a cook top, toaster, microwave and full sized refrigerator. We also have all the needed cups, plates, mugs and cutlery you will need. Off the kitchen is the bathroom, which is huge by boat standards. it has a full sized stand up shower, head and vanity/sink. These boats have 40 Gallon hot water tanks as well, so no worries about running out hot water after a few showers. We also run on shore power and water, so the water has great pressure and is unlimited (no water tank to refill)

We provide all linens and towels so there is no need to worry about laundry. We also provide plus an iron, ironing board, hairdryer, plus bathroom products such as soaps, shampoos, and lotions. We also include a coffee maker, coffee and toaster. This houseboat is fully air-conditioned and heated for your comfort in any season. All this for less than the price of the smallest rooms at any of the nearby downtown waterfront hotels!

Located in a very secure and gated marina, our houseboat is just minutes away from downtown Bostons` most popular attractions; Fanueil Hall/Quincy Market, the North End, the New England Aquarium, the Childrenïs` Museum and the Boston Convention Center. Our convenient location makes it easy for you reach points of interest along the waterfront, via discounted water taxi, public transportation, Uber and Lyft.. Go ahead and rent or bring your car, this rental has a FREE parking space for it! This is unheard of in Boston!

This marina is located in the up and coming East Boston Neighborhood of Boston. It is minutes away from the airport, and dozens of great restaurants and shops. There is a grocery store less than a half mile away, and a convenience store on the corner. We partner with Rowes Wharf Water Transport to provide a reduced rate water taxi service to the guests of our boats into Rowes Wharf in Downtown Boston. Our guests can utilize this service for $25/pp round trip. This quick 25 minute ride puts you right in the center of all there is to do in Boston. This stop drops you at the Aquarium, Fanueil Hall/Quincy Market and the North End. Our location in the actual working port of Boston affords our guests the unique perspective of the historic Boston Shipping Trade in action. Watch the drawbridge open from your roof deck as barges and tugboats pass by, supplying Boston and the Northeast with the needed commodities for commerce!

Our location in the actual working port of Boston affords our guests the unique perspective of the historic Boston Shipping Trade in action. Watch the drawbridge open from your roof deck as barges and tugboats pass by, supplying Boston and the Northeast with the needed commodities for commerce!

This unique location is becoming a hub for working professionals. You may never want to head into Downtown during your stay. If you are able to pull yourself away, the multiple transportation options for getting into the city make it a cinch!

The boat is in a protected part of the marina, but there can be some occasional movement during the day when boats pass by. At night the waters are very calm and some guests even find that a bit of gentle swaying relaxes them and makes for a very restful sleep. The houseboat is berthed on a brand new floating 5 foot wide wooden dock, so its just one step up onto the boat's deck at any tide. The docks are lighted and very stable The dock is connected to the parking lot by a long ramp with handrails; this ramp can be a bit steep at maximum low tide (twice a day), but there are built in treads for climbing. The ramp can be difficult at the lowest tidal points for folks with difficulty walking. The good part is that the tide does go in and out, so the majority of the time it is at a 30 degree angle or less. Its a safe first nautical experience for people of all ages who have never been on a boat before.

After a long day of touring the city there is nothing better than being dropped off at your boat by the water taxi, stepping onto the deck and relaxing on your own private sun deck with a cold drink in hand, listening to the soothing sounds of the ocean as you enjoy the views, sights and sounds of Boston Harbor!

About Ryan

I own a property management company specializing in yacht and houseboat rentals. I love the water and enjoy sailing every chance I get!

I carefully select the listings I represent, so you can be assured you are staying in a property I have stayed in and am confident you will enjoy.

I enjoy hosting vacation rental travelers as you are the most adventurous, interesting folks I have had the pleasure to rent to. I look forward to welcoming you aboard!

Ryan purchased this house boat in 2012

Why Ryan chose Boston

These houseboats are a great way to enjoy being on the water without giving up conveniences of typical shore based lodging. With direct water and power this boat functions exactly like your home, but with a gentle rocking that reminds you that you are experiencing something truly unique.

What makes this house boat unique

With free parking, WiFi and water taxi service into downtown you can experience Boston as a local, yet retire to your own roof deck at the end of a long day exploring and enjoy the solitude and relaxation only a boat can provide!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Ryan's place is TOP NOTCH. I wasn't too sure about staying on a house boat, but my husband said "be a little adventurous", and Im so glad we decided to stay. We were fortunate to stay aboard the ANDROMEDA. The place is exactly as described and even better. There were so many "small touches" that put this place over the top. Our arrival was easy. Ryan's friends Diego met us and showed us around the boat, he also gave us his number if we needed him for anything else. The boat was unbelievably cozy and comfortable. My 2 teenage daughters loved the loft space where they slept. And the master bedroom was not only comfortable but decorated very tastefully. My husband found a hideaway bed in the living room couch and said "nice, we can bring the twins (our daughters in college) next time and stay here again". This was the 10th AirBnB we've stayed in from New York(3x's), Philadelphia(2x's) Paris(2x's) Rome, Honolulu and now Boston...so far its our favorite. Like i mentioned earlier, it was the small things that were provided that we loved: -Shampoo -Conditioner -Body Wash -Wash Cloths -Coffee Maker (with coffee, cream & sugar) -Iron (with bed top ironing board) -Ample Electrical outlets -Detailed instructions on check-out -FREE Water Taxi Service -FREE dedicated parking area I couldn't believe that the two previous AirBnB's we stayed in didn't provide a wash cloth, which could be why i was so excited to find a whole stack in Ryan's place. Lastly, the VALUE on the FREE parking & FREE Water Taxi Service shouldn't go un-noticed. We had just came from New York where we paid $50 for 3 hours, so this was something we were hyper aware of. Then to have the Water Taxi pick us up literally at our front door and be FREE, is a total god-send. I saw other passengers who weren't staying on any of Ryan's boats paying $20/roundtrip...at that cost, I easily saved $160 on my family of 4 that utilized 2 roundtrips. Yaaaaaay! All in all, we look forward to our return to Boston, mostly for the chance to stay on any one of Ryan's houseboats. Cheers...job well-done!

"Andromeda" houseboat (1 of 3 they have) doesn't live up to glowing reviews

  • 2 of 5

PROS:

Beds are very comfortable, the houseboat is clean, and all accoutrements are pretty much as stated in the listing

CONS:

Location: The Boston Bay Marina is directly in line with one of Logan's runways. While that runway is in use, planes taking off will pass roughly 1000 feet directly overhead every 5 to 10 minutes. This can start as early as 7:30 AM and be as late as 1:00 AM. During our time on the boat (just evenings and during the night), there were planes passing overhead nearly 30% of the time.

Water Taxi: The free water taxi is a "courtesy" service by appointment only, not a scheduled service to board at the next pick up time. It is only available when not too busy. You're out of luck during peak times. We only learned it was by appointment upon our arrival, and only learned about its full limitations when we first called for a pickup. As a result, the water taxi was no use to us and we had to drive into the city. The result was $98 in tolls and parking garage fees, as well as the added stress of navigating Boston’s streets and traffic.

Custodial duties: While clean with fresh linens and towels, we discovered a most unpleasant odor of septic gases in the bathroom. It wasn't inhabitable for more than a minute or two at a time. And the smell would spread throughout the houseboat. With temps in the high 80’s and very high humidity, opening windows was not a viable option. The smell was simply not tolerable. There has been no word of apology from the manager, nor has there been any contact with us to ask about our stay. We actually never saw or spoke with Ryan, the person described as the manager in the listing. A completely different gentleman was left in charge of the houseboat. Though addressed the next day, the first night was miserable. It should have been checked before our arrival.

Other annoyances: The dishes provided were not microwaveable. We had to stand on a chair to adjust the A/C. The two electrical outlets on either side of the sliding glass door do not work, yet the TV, DVD, and a lamp were plugged into them just the same. The window up in the loft had no blinds and faces east. Each evening we needed to haul the cushions from the sleep sofa into the far end of the loft and put them in front of the window, and each morning put them back on the sofa. One of the dining chairs was extremely lose and wobbly. Had we used it, it might have broken apart.

Rock on Rentals ROCK! Boston Marina Bay - it doesn't get better than this!

  • 5 of 5

So we have finally unpacked all our bags and spent many hours regaling stories of Boston to our friends but the one thing that was the hit of the holiday from everybody concerned were the nights spent on the Lyra. Although my hubby and father in law are keen sailors, we have only ever stayed on water for day trips so I was slightly anxious about staying a whole weeks holiday but I shouldn't have been. The pictures of all your accommodations reflect exactly what they are, so there are no surprises on arrival. We loved the peace and quiet of the harbour, but with the hussle and bussle of Boston downtown only a water taxi ride away. The fact that it was free of charge was a bonus! The house boat was superb - clean, spacious, and fully equipped with everything you need. An added bonus was the bathroom is a proper bathroom with a fully working shower - lots of hot water too and plenty of pressure! There are two decks - lower and upper, all equipped with tables & chairs. Nearby, you can walk to the shop to pick up some groceries or a take away pizza, if you fancy sitting on the deck in the evening, watching the sun going down or even having the pleasure of waving at the boats go by.

Also Ryan, I cannot fail to mention the warm hospitality given to us by yourself. It was great to see a friendly face around, who always had 5 mins to chat and hear about our day (I know, we were early risers!) - the whole rental set up is a credit to you.

Thanks again, we have recommended you to all of our friends and if we are ever in Boston again, we will certainly spend time on your spot of paradise in Boston!

P.S. there's also free wi-fi (very important for any teen!) travelling!

Truly a Great Winter Option!!

  • 5 of 5

The idea of renting a houseboat on Boston’s harbor in the winter raised a lot of eye brows. I spent two nights with my kids and their cousins (4 teenagers) and we all had a great time!

From it's the great location, comfort of the house boat's climate control, plenty of living accommodations, Wi-Fi (biggy for the teens), even the small entertainment center (TV & DVD player) and the water taxi service made the whole adventure a BLAST. When we had questions or needed help, the house manager was “Ryan” on the spot and quickly took care of business.

I made recommendations to others to check it and have a great time like we did. A trip the kids won’t forget and something we’ll definitely do again. Thanks!!

Rock on Rental ROCKS!

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to give my 13 year old grandson something unique to remember on his “milestone” birthday so we stayed on a rock-on-rental this past weekend and it was such a blast…so out of the ordinary.

Three of us got in on a Friday evening. Ryan met us at the gate and showed us to our “boat” which was clean, roomy, quiet, safe and the coolest thing ever! The sunset from the roof deck was spectacular. We quickly made ourselves at home (lots of storage space) and grilled our dinner (finding all the necessary items easily), ate on the “porch” with little patio lights. The beds were soft and extremely comfortable as were the linens and towels.

We wanted to ride Codzilla (a must) and wander Quincy Market so Ryan suggested we use the water taxi (included in the rental price!) to bring us to the Long Wharf area. We called, gave them about an hours notice and they were right at our dock at the given time. Pick up from Long Wharf was just as easy (and you get a nice boat ride around the harbor).

There is a large grocery store just down the street, and smaller corner stores within walking distance which is very convenient.

I highly recommend the experience to anyone at any age!!! We will definitely be back!

Thank you Ryan and Karina for making our stay so comfortable and fun.

Super Place !

  • 5 of 5

A perfect place for vacation. We had a lot of fun and the place reflect the photos. It was just perfect and we were 6 persons. Very close to downtown Boston and to sleep on a boat is a cool experience. I recommend this place to everyone.

Loved it

  • 4 of 5

Loved the boat and location the only bad thing was the amount of people laying on the docks that did not actually stay on a boat.

Owner's Response: I wanted to clarify this comment so future renters are not deterred by the statement about people being on the docks that did not belong there. The date this occurred was the 4th of July. The dock we occupy has the best view of the fireworks and the boaters from the rest of the marina came down to the dock that evening to view the fireworks. Unfortunately it was a bit difficult to navigate down the dock with all of the extra folks milling about. This situation only occurs on this one evening a year. Thank you for bringing the situation to my attention, I will make sure we do a better job of keeping the docks clear next year.

While not as picturesque as other locations within Boston, this area is very safe and extremely quiet. The protected part of the harbor the boat is moored in rarely gets any wake or rough water from passing storms, in fact it is the location most boaters store their boats when inclement weather threatens. This location is perfect for anyone who wants to experience being on water but has a fear of sea sickness!
