“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need”
This single-family detached home, definitely have everything you need for a memorable vacation in Catskills, NY
Originally built in the early 1900’s by a family with 25 kids (not kidding you), we know because most of the family members still live in the neighborhood and comes by once in awhile to reminisce their childhood in a 3 bedroom/ 1 Bathroom house then.
Fast forward to the early 1990’s and the house is now acquired by a single man —— a university professor who’s also an avid reader and a master gardener. He passed away 4 yrs ago, making the house available for us to purchase.
We bought this property, without seeing the interior (probably was meant to be, cause we might have change our mind if we had.)
It was summer 2015, everything was blooming, every soil is planted with perennials, overgrown and was totally amazed by every variations of hostas, astilbe’s, wild roses and many many more including fruit bearing trees like of peaches, apples and berries. We knew we stumbled upon a gem.
We wanted the garden alone and from what were told the garden itself was worthier than the house itself. But then we also, found out about the magical hidden creek located right in our yard. We were sold!
2 years had passed and we’re still replacing the kitchen, this is after the floor was changed, the house foundation leveled, every window is replaced, another bathroom on the first floor is added, every water and electric piping is updated, every wall is replaced and painted, an insulation from top to bottom (‘finally’, still bewildered on how was anyone lived here during winter without it). In short, a major overhaul!
And yet, we are constantly improving and making the house comparable to the garden outside. Finally, we’re now in the stage where we’re totally IN LOVE with the house, and it always makes us a lil bit jealous when someone else’s is inhabiting it but us. We consider anyone coming to stay with us very lucky, however, bittersweet as we feel like all the hardships along with our tears and sweat is not wasted.
Inside, the beautifully-decorated, airy home is packed with creature comforts collected from our travels around the world. All available for purchase if you ever find that you cannot leave without it. Every bookshelf is filled with interesting reads, including books for the little ones.
The sizable chef's kitchen includes a granite counter tops, maple cabinets, sub zero fridge, a DCS stove with griddle and other high end appliances, with all the gadgets (food processor, blender, etc.) you'll need to prepare your feasts. And once the food is ready, you'll have to choose whether to dine at the long farmhouse table inside, or adjourn to the wood deck outside on temperate days for your meals. The porch also has a comfortable lounge/laundry area, where you can find yourself serenaded by the vocal bird population. But across the house is also the delicious Amy’s take away for those lazy days (and if you’re lucky she may even offer you breakfast preparation for a reasonable fee everyday).
There are three pretty guest bedrooms and a full bathroom on the 2nd floor which includes a walk-in shower and a tub. The master suite has a seating area, facing the garden and mountain views.
The kids are guaranteed to love the attic kids room, which is at the 3rd floor, making it perfect for slumber parties, but it's not just for the younger set. There are two sets of beds designed for a boy and a girl. In the middle of the room is also a massive Japanese style bed, the whole family can opt to sleep on it after a tiresome laughter. Its own little living quarters is filled with kids toys and books, a reading nook, and a projector TV for movie nights.
There is wood deck outside the garage with charcoal and gas grill, there’s also a warm jacuzzi bath in the midst of flowers where you might recline and enjoy yourself. In the woods not far from the house is a fire pit, 3 hammocks for those simply seeking tranquility in a picturesque natural setting surrounded by tremendous flowers and the relaxing sound of Stone Clove creek. On hot summer days there is another wooden deck equipped with picnic table overlooking the creek for your enjoyment.
The home is a destination unto itself, but the grounds present a huge attraction, whether for the mountain biking enthusiast or hiker (there are several miles of trails in the neighborhood), the topography is nestled in the hill of Hunter Mountain, boasting the lushness greenery of Catskills. It is only 10 minutes to Hunter Mountain Ski Resort perfect for your winter and all year round getaway based location, while the charming Village of Tannersville and Phoenicia is also only minutes away for your Shopping, Entertainment & Restaurants needs. If hiking is your thing the Katterskils Falls and it’s immediate neighborhood is also about 20 mins away. The infamous happening Woodstock is also about 20 Minutes away.
This is a special property for a respectful group, a family, or a couple of families.
