'Idyll Tyme!' is a place to do most anything, or nothing at all! The cabin underwent an extensive remodel in 2013, with Direct TV, wireless internet, flat-screen TV, and many other amenities. You can enjoy squirrels, raccoons, birds, and a great view from the wrap-around deck any time of day, although it is especially nice in the evenings. From the deck, loft and bedrooms, one can see Lily Rock in all its splendor. The gated deck can be completely fenced in and secure, so it is safe for young children and pets.
Doug is a retired US Forest Service employee and Bonnie is a musician by profession, so the community's emphasis on the arts and the forest was a good match for both of us (we are now retired-sort of!). We lived in this house for 9 years while Doug was US Forest Service District Ranger and still know many local residents here, so we have extensive knowledge of the area and its special charms. We have used vacation rentals in other parts of the world and decided that our place was a wonderful area to share with others, just as others have shared with us, whether here in the US or abroad. We are happy to answer any questions you may have, and to welcome you to this little corner of paradise. Come and enjoy!
Doug Pumphrey purchased this cabin in 1981
While we lived here, we realized the special benefits of this great environment and the wonderful people who live here, and everyone's efforts to keep it that way. We look forward to sharing our piece of paradise with you.
We love the fact that the cabin is cozy and at the same time gives the feeling of openness. It is very airy and bright. The day we walked in, the first comment we made was, 'Oooo, we like!!' Through the years, we have had wonderful conversations on the wrap-around deck, especially in the summer evenings, but year around as well.
We enjoy decorating for seasons, holidays and special occasions!
In completing the remodel of our place, we've made every effort to make the cabin comfortable and modern, yet compatible with the feeling that is essentially Idyllwild. We love to take walks around the area and just enjoy the peace, but equally enjoy the local concerts and events, as well as the DIRECT TV, Wi-Fi, and other amenities of the cabin. There are level streets in the neighborhood which make a good walking or jogging route, and the house is completely accessible in winter.
Idyllwild Arts provides great concerts and is only a short drive away (please contact them for concert schedules). You can find wonderful restaurants, unique shops, and an abundance of nature related activities here. We enjoy providing seasonally appropriate decorations for the cabin, making your holidays here feel like home.
Since we live only about 30 minutes away, we make ourselves available as needed. We enjoy meeting and greeting our guests whenever possible. After all, strangers are only friends we haven't yet met!
What a nice get-away for our family of 6. 😄We love being close to nature, so this town is just perfect. This home is perfect for our needs. It feels much larger than 900 SF. Thank you Doug!
We arrived late Friday night to this beautiful cabin that was more perfect than we expected! The pictures are beautiful, but it's even nicer in person! We had a lovely stay with out young daughters. They had enough snow in the yard to play in. There were snacks, coffee and tea for us in the cute little kitchen. The owners were so kind and accommodating when we requested to stay an extra night. We had our dog with us as well and she loved it too! IT was so nice and relaxing...just what the doctor ordered. I spent HOURS looking for a place to stay and this was the best place by far for the best price! We will definitely be requesting to stay here again during the summer and winter time! The store, restaurants and town was only a few minutes away. Loved every minute of our time and I don't have a single complaint about this lovely home!
My family vacationed in the cabin for two days / nights. We booked this cabin because the reviews were so good. It ended up exceeding our expectations. Doug is very good about communicating and was willing to help us with any needs. He is very familiar with the area and was able to suggest a trail that would be good to hike with our three kids. He also has a book in the cabin of things to do, information about the area and things to know about the cabin. Very helpful. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and we ended up cooking most our meals there because we didn't want to leave.
My kids are well traveled and this is the only place they keep talking about and begging to go back. Another trip will be in the works soon and this cabin is a must.
I chose this cabin because of the reviews that said communication with the owner is excellent. Doug is very helpful and the cabin is wonderful and clean. The kitchen is updated and a joy to cook in. The beds are very comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the many places we could travel to, including Joshua Tree National Park and Palm Springs. We had eight inches of snow the last day we were there and Doug had someone plow us out. If we visit Idyllwild again, we hope this lovely cabin would be available. Our two year old grandson loved the toys there.
I have stayed at Idyll Tyme twice in the last year and both experiences were incredible. The property is cozy, clean and well stocked/equipped. The owner is cordial, helpful and extremely kind. The cabin is close to the center of town so it's easy to explore but the cabin itself is so homey and comfortable, you don't want to leave. I highly recommend this location and will return in the future.
From the moment we arrived, we felt at home. With all the little extra little touches that Doug and Bonnie included, such as having Christmas decorations and a Christmas tree up, providing snacks and coffee, you could tell that they cared about their guests. The beds were very comfortable and the wood burning fireplace was great for the cold winter nights. The location of the cabin was far enough away from town that you could enjoy the quiet of Idyllwild, yet close enough to easily go to town for a meal or shopping. The deck had two closing gates which made it a safe area for your pets when sitting outside. We will definitely return to Idyll Tyme!
The cabin is in beautiful Fern Valley, 1 mile from Humber Park, location of many major trailheads, and about 2 miles from several other trails and the unique shops and restaurants in the center of town. Peaceful, private, and serene, it is a wonderful place for a romantic stay for two, a friends' getaway, small group retreat, business planning sessions, fun with the family, you name it! We are on a paved road which is plowed when it snows. If you don't know where something is, please ask. Desert communities, San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles are all within easy reach. The Idyllwild Arts facility is close by. There is also wine tasting in Idyllwild and Temecula (about 1 hour away).
