About the property

2 Bedroom And Loft, Wrap-around Fenced-in Deck, Completely Remodeled

'Idyll Tyme!' is a place to do most anything, or nothing at all! The cabin underwent an extensive remodel in 2013, with Direct TV, wireless internet, flat-screen TV, and many other amenities. You can enjoy squirrels, raccoons, birds, and a great view from the wrap-around deck any time of day, although it is especially nice in the evenings. From the deck, loft and bedrooms, one can see Lily Rock in all its splendor. The gated deck can be completely fenced in and secure, so it is safe for young children and pets.

About Doug Pumphrey

Doug is a retired US Forest Service employee and Bonnie is a musician by profession, so the community's emphasis on the arts and the forest was a good match for both of us (we are now retired-sort of!). We lived in this house for 9 years while Doug was US Forest Service District Ranger and still know many local residents here, so we have extensive knowledge of the area and its special charms. We have used vacation rentals in other parts of the world and decided that our place was a wonderful area to share with others, just as others have shared with us, whether here in the US or abroad. We are happy to answer any questions you may have, and to welcome you to this little corner of paradise. Come and enjoy!

Doug Pumphrey purchased this cabin in 1981

Why Doug Pumphrey chose Idyllwild

While we lived here, we realized the special benefits of this great environment and the wonderful people who live here, and everyone's efforts to keep it that way. We look forward to sharing our piece of paradise with you.

What makes this cabin unique

We love the fact that the cabin is cozy and at the same time gives the feeling of openness. It is very airy and bright. The day we walked in, the first comment we made was, 'Oooo, we like!!' Through the years, we have had wonderful conversations on the wrap-around deck, especially in the summer evenings, but year around as well.

We enjoy decorating for seasons, holidays and special occasions!

In completing the remodel of our place, we've made every effort to make the cabin comfortable and modern, yet compatible with the feeling that is essentially Idyllwild. We love to take walks around the area and just enjoy the peace, but equally enjoy the local concerts and events, as well as the DIRECT TV, Wi-Fi, and other amenities of the cabin. There are level streets in the neighborhood which make a good walking or jogging route, and the house is completely accessible in winter.

Idyllwild Arts provides great concerts and is only a short drive away (please contact them for concert schedules). You can find wonderful restaurants, unique shops, and an abundance of nature related activities here. We enjoy providing seasonally appropriate decorations for the cabin, making your holidays here feel like home.

Since we live only about 30 minutes away, we make ourselves available as needed. We enjoy meeting and greeting our guests whenever possible. After all, strangers are only friends we haven't yet met!

Felt Like Home

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived, we felt at home. With all the little extra little touches that Doug and Bonnie included, such as having Christmas decorations and a Christmas tree up, providing snacks and coffee, you could tell that they cared about their guests. The beds were very comfortable and the wood burning fireplace was great for the cold winter nights. The location of the cabin was far enough away from town that you could enjoy the quiet of Idyllwild, yet close enough to easily go to town for a meal or shopping. The deck had two closing gates which made it a safe area for your pets when sitting outside. We will definitely return to Idyll Tyme!

The cabin was so clean and everything was organized, me and my family had a nice relaxation time away from the city. It was so nice and has this kind of cozy feeling. We enjoyed our stay and we will be back for sure.

Perfect little cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was just what we needed for our thanksgiving trip to the mountains. Unlike a lot of cabin rentals we have stayed in, this cabin had everything you could need from utensils/dishes, cleaning supplies, firewood to a humber park permit and backpacks to use as needed. Doug was easy to get a hold of and very hospitable. We can't wait to stay here again.

Favorite VRBO Property Ever!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of stayed here last January for three days and it was the perfect property and we've stayed at several through VRBO. The house is clean and cozy and the owners are kind and provide an amazing stay. My young kids still talk about this cabin and we've stayed at two other VRBO homes since that trip almost a year ago! We can't wait to return and even tried to go but it's been booked during our desired times to stay. You can't go wrong with this wonderful home.

Fantastic!! Perfect!!! Beautiful!!! Wonderful!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated our special day with family and friends at this beautiful cabin! It was absolutely perfect!! Plenty of blankets, towels and the kitchen was fully stocked!! Plenty of firewood for the cold nights. The force air and heating worked great!! The loft was perfect for the honeymoon night. It has a vaulted ceiling with a ceiling fan and a little private air conditioner. The windows went straight across the loft so we woke up to an fantastic view of the valley!!! Awesome full size washer and dryer!! Windows that go straight across the living area and kitchen so you don't miss out on the view and sunlight. The shutters were beautiful!! A huge Flat Screen for a family to watch movies together at night. The downstairs bathroom had plenty of counter space and cupboard space. The shower was perfect with a window so you could see the view while showering. The decking was brand new and very well done with having a bbq, table and chairs to enjoy meals outside. The cabin felt like our home and not like a vacation rental. It had everything you would want in a home but more!

All our guest were so impress with the cabin that we wouldn't be surprise if they rent the cabin someday. We all agreed that on our anniversary each year we have to come back to celebrate together!!

A special "Thank You" to Doug!! He made our day very special by bringing flowers, a fruit basket and I believe wine too!! He was very helpful and caring!! He didn't make us feel like customers, he made of feel like guest in his home that he wanted to make sure they were happy and comfortable. He provided a very clear instruction binder on how all the appliances worked, lighting, air, heating, alarm, etc.... He also provided information about the town and what there was around to do. That was so helpful to have!!

We highly recommend renting this beautiful cabin!! Very affordable for all the wonderful amenities!! We are already looking forward to going back next year!!

Warmest Thoughts,

The "G's"

The cabin is in beautiful Fern Valley, 1 mile from Humber Park, location of many major trailheads, and about 2 miles from several other trails and the unique shops and restaurants in the center of town. Peaceful, private, and serene, it is a wonderful place for a romantic stay for two, a friends' getaway, small group retreat, business planning sessions, fun with the family, you name it! We are on a paved road which is plowed when it snows. If you don't know where something is, please ask. Desert communities, San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles are all within easy reach. The Idyllwild Arts facility is close by. There is also wine tasting in Idyllwild and Temecula (about 1 hour away).
