The Mackinaw House is an opportunity to find peace, tranquility, joy and adventure. With a view of one of the world’s most beautiful bridges, and Mackinaw Island which is majestically set between Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas our home is a perfect vacation destination. Nestled in Northern Michigan, the Mackinaw House is a safe and charming location for your next visit to the shores of the Straits of Mackinac.
The Mackinaw House is a two story structure with an interior decorated with family heirlooms and paneling made from native species of wood. The first floor is inviting and calming with one bed room, a mud room including a washer and dryer, a full kitchen and dining room, a small den, and a full bathroom. The Mackinaw House is a getaway, a true oasis away from the rat race, with stunning sunrises and a palette of colors at sunset.
The second floor has a rustic feel with log walls in the family room, two bedrooms and a second bathroom. The walls in the bedrooms are a combination of light cheery colors and knotty pine wood. The family room has a television, couch, and an additional dining room table and hutch. There is a very small kitchenette in the back of the family room. The Mackinaw House was built with our own hands with the intention of creating a lake house with that “welcome home” feel. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
They say “location is everything” and you won’t find a better location to enjoy all that Northern Michigan has to offer.
If you are interested in star-gazing, the night sky over Lake Huron is beautiful. You can also drive 10 minutes to the Headlands - recently designated as a 'DARK SKY PRESERVE' - one of only 10 locations in the USA! This is given to a few special areas that are free of artificial light. The night sky is breathtakingly beautiful!
In the winter, you can be on the slopes of Nubs Knob or Boyne Mountain in less than 30 minutes. If you prefer snow-shoeing or x-country skiing, the area offers the Headlands, Wilderness State Park or Mill Creek - all minutes away. The beautiful Mackinaw to Midland snowmobile/bike trail is easily accessed from the driveway of the cottage. Interested in a little more adventure? Try a dog-sled ride through the wilderness from a local musher! Also a great base-camp for hunters.
In the spring, birdwatchers gather from all over the country to catch a glimpse of the incredible hawk migration.
Lake Michigan,Historic Fort Michilimackinac and the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, the ferry docks to Mackinac Island - are all minutes away.
In the fall, take the color tour through the “tunnel of trees” or enjoy spectacular scenery in the Upper Peninsula, an easy drive across the mighty Mackinac Bridge. There’s nothing quite like the sound of bugling elks during mating season at Pigeon River or the mysterious call of the loon on a quiet lake. It’s all here! Hunt, fish, hike, canoe, bike – you can do it all or you can just relax by the cozy fireplace with a good book.

The beach is rocky so bring your water shoes.
The home was very clean and comfortable. The views of the lake and bridge were AMAZING! THE rooms were made up nicely with everything we needed and more! It would have been nice to have a TV on the lower floor away from the bedrooms upstairs. Overall the home was very nice and again the view was breathtaking!
This house was perfect! Fully stocked and clean. Plenty of space. Beautiful views of the Mackinac Bridge and the island. We will definitely come back.
This lake front Cottage has a great view and is well located for sightseeing the upper MI peninsula. The floor layout is different, but very useable. Providing 2 sets of binoculars for lake viewing was a nice surprise and appreciated. On the down side we found few issues with the overall conditions of this rental. Examples are: the bed sheets on the double beds didn't fit the beds; one set of bed sheets were torn; the exterior garbage cans were essentially full upon on arrival and they were of course overflowing upon our departure; the freezer was in need of cleaning; and the top 6 feet of a tree was laying on the cottage's roof. However, these issues are easy to resolve and we are sure that they will be addressed by the owners of this rental.
Don't really have a bad thing to say, I'll try to stay here again next year!
This property is exactly as described, and exactly what we were looking for. Great views, comfortable, close to Mackinaw, everything we needed. Thank You
First I would like to say that the Manager of this property is awesome! Thank you Ms. M for all your help and amazing communication. Anyone that loves to be in the woods and on a real lake would love this place. I went up on a Tuesday and everyone else arrived on Wednesday-Friday. This place can easily hold 20 people if some do not mind the floor. We did not have 20 though but enough to have one on the floor. The place is very clean and smells like fresh wood/pine. The view is absolutely amazing, as you can see the bridge, island, and open water. We most likely used all the dead fall and 3 half truck loads of wood we brought. We had a fire going 24/7. The one issue with the fire was that there was constant wind the first 2 days which continually fueled the fire. At one point we burned through a half truck load of wood in 1-2 hours. The place is just a few minutes away from Mackinaw and 2 tracks if you like to off-road. Awesome Dogs come over and chilled, neighbors are not around often but the one day they were there, everything was smooth. We were a bit louder than we could have been, but the forest and open water keeps the sound controlled. We had people by the bonfire and in the main room all night, till 3-4 am. There were no problems with people, but did have 3 light bulbs burn out. Overall it is a great place for a couple of people or a major party. We walked in to a clean place, and walked out with the place clean. Even though there is a cleaning lady, we still cleaned because the deal is right and everyone should respect the place. We went up for a bachelor party and the place was clean when we left, so anyone should be able to do the same. Keep the shoes off when in the home :)
We will be back up again next year for a new guys outing.
